But yeah as others mentioned, books aren't worth it until you have a decent grasp of what you want to get better at. Think of books to reinforce or add to your repertoire of information that you have already obtained from free resources. Same thing with free resources. Watch youtube videos or video tutorials to get a general idea and then read to reinforce.

I'm a programmer that has worked on a few games:

The majority of these games have been just me working just for the sake of putting something out there while I was at university. Now that I am nearly finished university I am looking to develop on a daily basis outside of work. I have the hopes and aspirations that one day I could live off this but so do most of us.
I am just looking for an artist that I can basically be friends with and we can prototype a bunch of games without expecting we will become rich. Could happen but focus is on making a fun, enjoyable, emotional, bloodthirsty (I don't really give a fuck on the genre right now, nothing is set in stone).

Pretty much up to learn anything that is required. But I do expect that we consistently pump out games and try to make something fun. Message me if you are interested, don't be luled into a false sense of work, my goal is to make good stuff and to do that we must exhaust a lot of possibilities.
TL;DR: Making games that are fun, fuck the focus on a corporate get rich quick scheme, mainly 2D focused or 2.5D. (can do 3d but its not really my thing)
These usually all start out the same with, hey you need to be great make art for me etc. Think I may attempt to take a different approach. To get straight to the point I want an artist who is able to have decent communication skills and can draw alright. I am not overly fussed since we are all somewhat learning in our own respects. As well as this though I want someone who is willing to push boundaries with obscurity. Not falling into being so generic and try to become the person that wants more money and to create generic bullshit. Has to be willing to create personal and deep games that explore the very being of who we are.
So who am I to request all this of someone?
Honestly I work with what I have, I am a very determine person who strives to be independent and it terrifies me that I won't make it but I am willing to sacrifice those big paying jobs to work on these games. I consider myself a decent bag of blood but I do tend to be a bit out there which from my years playing games on newgrounds seems to be nothing new.
Qualifications?
I don't really care much for a title people gives themselves as long as they are determined and willing. Personally I have a Bachelor in IT majoring in computing, networking and game dev. I have 1 game nearly ready for release (free) here, I have 1 game I made in 24 hours as a challenge here, and another game coming out on the android and iOS in the near future, and about a million prototypes. I know C#, Java, php,html, sql, python, javascript and currently learning C++ and AS3. I am doing an honours next year at university in game development based around thought provoking games.
Location
I live in Australia so there may be some issues but there are always work arounds.
