I'm going to tell you this right now, you are the only thing that actually exists in the universe.
Or rather, you are the only thing that you can know for sure exists in the universe. It's a difficult idea to grasp at first, but makes increasingly more sense as you think about. The only person you can prove exists in the universe, is yourself.
Cogito, ergo sum, I think therefore I am. This is a simple proof of the existence of self. In order to think about if you exist, there must be a self, an "I", to do the thinking. However, no such proof exists for the existence of other people, or anything else for that matter. For all anyone knows, everything we see around us could be an illusion (i.e. there is no spoon). This actually is the foundation of the majority of eastern religions. The goal of many eastern religions is to reach enlightenment, the complete realization that the world around is not real, but an illusion.
I could go on and on about this, but I think you get the point. Your perception of the world around, is reality. There is no separation of what you percieve and what actually is. Accompanied with the idea that you are the only person that exists, and a new perspective can be found on life. Why live be the rules of other people who may or may not exist? Why bother arguing over petty differences that are as you see them, and no other way. Bascially, be free and live your own life.
I think this xkcd comic somes up what I'm trying to say the best.
