i couldnt tell you how CA's deploy or how often, but i can tell you that guard and reserve deploy just as often as active duty...maybe a little less, but not by alot. many branches, especially the air force, are attempting to change the role of their non-active components from "back-filling" to a more operational integration. meaning instead of the guard and reserve doing the active duty guys job while the active guy deploys, they both deploy so neither has to go as often. the days of the lazy "weekend warrior" are gone.

national service for which country? i know a lot of countries have mandatory military service, but im not sure which ones...and the "border dispute" comment...i dunno where youre going with that, but i dont think there are any Armenians in this club, so the answer is no. this club is not just for people involved in border disputes with the turks...

Also sorry for the triple post but I forgot another thing. If I lied I might not get caught at first but I heard if you ever need security clearance or anything like that, they check your medical records.

thats true, depending on the clearance youre going for, they check your job, education, driving, and medical histories...most of the people that squeeze through the cracks developed the condition (asthma or whatever) later on in life and were never formally treated for it. you dont want to be one of those people. just be truthful and straight-forward, and youll do fine. best of luck to you!

it was a great show. they had a real cool set up too. they hung these lights all over the stage that changed color, and there were cameras mounted all over that showed different angles of the band and stage. definitely worth the money. wish i could have gone to lollapolooza again this year...oh well...

the air force calls them elements, anywhere else its a "squad". we have different names for everything...haha. anyway, im a cop...but we're the air forces equivalent to infantry. we handle all law enforcement, security, and air base defense. our squad breakdowns are generally 3 fire teams consisting of 4-5 members...usually 3 or 4 rifleman and a heavy gunner. one of those rifleman is also a grenadier (usually me...). so each squad is 12-15 members, 3 heavies, 3 or 4 grenadiers...not sure actual infantry does it. infantrys not my thing. gimme my 9, a patrol car, and a ticket book and leave me the fuck alone...haha. i could also talk forever about our security manning breakdowns for protecting air force resources...but thats not gonna happen...

our laundry facilities were in a different building and we were only allowed to do laundry at certain times. so we had people that did everyones laundry. all of our clothes had to be tagged with our "laundry mark" (first letter of last name and last 4 of our ssn) and they would just sort everything into piles that way...people still ended up with other peoples shit. i would have traded jobs with those guys though. i was a goddamn element (squad) leader...

I was wondering what some of the differences between the Army and the Marines are (eg: Physical requirements, most common places to be deployed to, common deployment durations, etc.).

im air force, so dont take my word on this info, just going off what ive heard/seen talking to and working with soldiers/marines...from what ive seen, typical army deployments are anywhere from 12 to 18 months, depending on the mission. and that usually includes any deployment specific training. ive heard marines have a 7 month rotation...as with any deployment any service member goes on, the length and location are going to depend on your job (your MOS as the army calls it...we call is an AFSC...not important though, im rambling...) and mission requirements.

2) Which do you think is better? Army or Marines? Also, please explain why.

both services are integral parts of our nations defense and are equally vital to the preservation of freedom and democracy across the globe...theres your "p/c air force" answer...my opinion: dealing with both as an MP, the marine corps seems to have a better respect for authority and more discipline...thats not to say the army lacks in that category, just overall ive dealt with more soldiers with piss poor attitudes than marines...that being said, there are alot more soldiers out there than marines. either way, they both put the AF to shame when it comes to discipline, one of my many issues with my chosen branch.

blah, blah, blah...anyway, if you want more of a "who has better benefits?" answer, youll have to wait for the other guys to help you there. i just know the benefits that are DoD wide...and the AF benefits of course. both get the Montgomery G.I. Bill (and now the Post 9/11 G.I. Bill for active duty service).

3) Do either have some type of cadet or jr. officer program?

both have JROTC (junior reserve officer training corps) programs usually offered through your high school. spending X number of years in jrotc can get you extra rank upon completing basic training. for the air force, at least 3 years in any branches jrotc program can earn you E-3. not sure what the army/marine corps gives you.

Thanks in advance!

hope this helps. sorry i wasnt able to give you better info.

ive been in the air force for over 4 years and ive never heard of anyone being disqualified because of ADD. sometimes recruiters are assholes. try getting a letter from a doctor stating that ADD doesnt interfere with your daily life, and that the medication allows you to focus well. then maybe get like a note from a teacher saying you have no problems concentrating and preform well in class...no guarantees, but that might help...

Also don't tell me to lie because I don't feel like being put in jail and being fined.

unfortunately, alot of people lie in their enlistment papers. especially about drug use. it doesnt happen often, but sometimes it does come back and bite them in the ass. so i wouldnt suggest lying. talk to a recruiter...maybe a different one than youve been dealing with...and see if some documentation from a doctor will help.

AND, best of luck to you! whatever you decide to do, thanks for wanting to serve your country. even just that is WAY more than many people are willing to do!

you need to go back, get a GED, and start going to college. even if its all online courses, credits are credits (until you try to transfer them...haha, am i right!?) but seriously, be the bigger man, improve yourself and prove your father wrong....thats how you win! easier said than done, i know, but most things are. so buckle down, and get back into school!

haha, its a bitch aint it!? most of the air force have their cushy mon-fri, 9-5 schedules, but im a cop...we never have time off, just time we arent at work. my time in was plagued by long shifts, recalls, and last minute shift changes that made me lose ALOT of "time away from work"...i spent my last year in north dakota, and i lived off base for a change, but i got paid for it. payin out of pocket must be rough! i must say i dont miss it...for a while before i got out (i just separated a month ago) i was the only certified armorer, and desk sergeant (emergency dispatcher) on my flight...i cant count the number of times i worked for weeks straight without a break...WOOOOOO! feels good to be free of that shit!

haha, i like it, dont get me wrong. i just feel there are many things the af could do a little differently. we seem to struggle so hard to have heritage and tradition, but the truth of it is is that we are by FAR the youngest branch, and therefore dont have the same storied histories as our sister services. the air force tries so hard to have a unique "identity" and sadly, usually comes off as the army's annoying younger brother...case in point, our new uniforms (the ABU, or Airman Battle Uniform...i still prefer the BDUs). i feel we should focus our history and pride on where the AF differs from other branches. like our unique UAV mission, satellite communications, or how the AF is the sole branch trusted to protect our nations nuclear resources...i could go on for hours here...anyway, i am a HUGE supporter of the "joint service operation" direction the US military is moving in. each branch is different, but the mission gets accomplished through teamwork and cooperation. its a beautiful thing...

...so count me in. dunno how often ill be on, but ill do whatever i can to help when im here. also, a little rivalry is all good, no worries...

i spent 4 years as Security Forces (military police) in the USAF...im still in and still a cop, but im reserves now. currently a Staff Sergeant (E-5). if anyone has any questions about the air force id be glad to try and answer them. im one of the AF's biggest critics, but im proud to serve and dont really like trash talk between branches, and especially between allied nations. ive seen clubs like this before and all anyone does is argue about what branch is better in the US, and who would win if certain countries went to war...so if this club is all about mud slinging then forget i posted, but if this club is here to legitimately provide information to those interested in serving in the military, and to intelligently discuss military related issues then count me in...that is, if the thread-starter will have me...
