I have a problem when a personal belief stops becoming personal.

I have a problem with censorship handed down from a papal mandate.

I have a problem with people who blindly follow and never question.

this really hits home because i know where this school is. i've driven by it many times. but i'm gonna have to disagree with you, wade.

popularity is relative, and if that person would've taken these remarks with a grain of salt, none of this would happen. today's society is such bullshit, we are damn whiners. hell, i'm skinny, people give me crap about it. i laugh. i think it's funny. i don't go on school rampages and shit. it's nobody's fault except their own for not having thick skin or a sense of humor.

Here's my honest opinion on the matter.

You can't expect everyone to be accepting of everything. When you wear whatever uniform you choose to wear everyday, it's pretty much a given that people will judge you by that uniform. It's the same with any type of dress... whether it be a type of suite or a shade of lipstick.

Different social settings have different implied dress codes. So you won't expect many high ranking business men and women to be wearing many of the things the adolescents of today are wearing. Maybe artists or writers could wear stuff like that, but probably not anyone working in a public institution. Perhaps your friend is conscious of what kind of guy the prof is like, and just wants to form a good impression.

A few friends of mine who used to dress rather gothish toned down their dress once they reached university. They still wear black and all, but the collars and stuff went out the window.

Is your dress code really the issue? Couldn't you tell your friend that you could wear an augmented version of your uniform when you go out with him and his prof?

I have to totally agree with your friend. He just wants to protect his image. it isn't him who disapproves of your dress, but rather the professors who might. he doesn't wanted to be unequally judged, just as you don't.

if you were a true friend, you'd conform your attire to his needs, rather than moan and groan about how society hates you. society hates bitching, not goths.
