The people who I respect on this site probably know who they are. So I'll leave it at that...

I agree with Ed. The people who I respect wouldn't partake in a post like this... Oh well...

However, there was a body-surfing competition at Oceanside that was pretty cool to watch...observing bodysurfing was probably the main part of the entire trip (i did a little of my own, but i suck =P)

Scribbler, eh? I like it. I think I'll change it again :D
Where in california exactly? I was body surfin' all last week. The beach is the funnest thing here...
Ya, I changed my name yet a gain. I'm the ol' NOFX.
I'm still in search for a good name...

so can we stop the unanswerable questions? if ya wanna know ask every goth out there, and you'll find your thousands of answers.
That was helpful. I guess I was just wondering why you guys would label yourselves something when you have nothing in common with the next "goth". Most labels have "guidelines", I guess. Dunno, I haven't been exposed to many gothic people.

well... Janus, what is the mindset of a gothic person? are they just really pessemistic or what? any insight would be useful...
I live next to a house with yelppy dogs, and 2 young kids that never stop screaming or crying. It sucks. Oh well, it beats the crap outta being neighbors with a nuclear reactor and getting cancer due to exposure.

I've heard it a lot before, because me and my friends use it. We often pic weird words and outuse them until they get old.

Oh sorry. You're right. You wrote the book on animation. You know everything... *rolls eyes*
:My teachers are teachers because there are not a lot of jobs for animation these days.
Hence, they weren't cut out for animation because they couldn't beat the competition.
All I'm saying is if you go looking for a job at Disney thinking you're going to become a director (what an ego), get paid a lot of money and treated well, you're in for a big let down.
I don't want to be a director... more of a character animator. But that's ok. Oh and I don't have an ego. Where'd you get that? And I know I'll have to work hard, and that the chances of getting the job I want are slim.
"Angular? Of course, all drawings must be angular" You dipshit I ment style you dumbass.
Then be more specific. All styles are angular. Use a better word. To quote Mark Twain... "The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug."
Just because you can write on a computer doesn't make you know anything about animation.
You proove to be great evidence of your own statement.
At 8/19/01 11:34 PM, Pants01 wrote: That's very true, it makes them look more cute like babys. and don't the Tiny Toons characters have big annoying eyes as well
They were animals in a more cartoony style. And they don't have huge pupils like anime.
At 8/19/01 11:24 PM, G-Hawk wrote: 1. Style IS PART of what makes it different. Why don't American cartoons have demons or post-apoclayptic biker gangs etc.? When will Disney have long, drawn-out violent fights and exploding heads, ala Fist of North Star?
You don't get it. Anime is a style of animation. American's have cartoons that are violent (Spawn and Heavy Metal) that aren't anime. It's the style that makes anime different... nothing else.
2. Japanese animation was taught to them by your "friends" at Disney. One of Disney's basic rules is that larger eyes make characters more "appealing". That is why villains tend to squint a lot. You think the Japanese invented their own animations by themselves? No way....they were taught by Disney. Really. So who's to blame now?
Yes, it was taught. But the student exaggerated the lesson. Anime totally exaggerated the big eye thing. Actually Disney uses eyes in porportion. Babies naturally have big eyes because their skulls have not yet fully developed. Hence, Disney babes have big eyes. Yet men have porportionate eyes... unlike anime...
At 8/19/01 11:04 PM, Pants01 wrote: LOL! The only people who want to go to disney are people who don't know anything about the animation industry. Oh I'm sure you get paid millions of dollars being a clean up artist.
Who wants to be a clean up artist? And who's talking millions?
All of my teachers who have worked for Disney said they hated it.
And look where they are now. Teaching. Probably bitter because they got chewed up and spit out by an industry they weren't good enough for.
My FX teacher said they treated them like crap because they had no idea that FX were important. My character design teacher said he got paid crap when he worked on that crappy little mermaid sequel, and they didn't tell him or give him any royalties for his drawings, he actually found out because he saw them on plates in a Disney store. The only ones who get treated well are the directors, producers, writers, main charcter animators, and a couple of other people.
No shit. They got paid shitty because they only cleaned up drawings and stuff. Not too hard. I'm talking leading animation. Sorry my aspiration isn't to be an art janitor like your teachers. Why do you think they are teachers? Because they weren't good enough for the industry.
And for anime, your using only examples of anime that you've seen on american tv, like sailor moon, pokemon, digimon, and all those other crappy anime. Have you ever heard of Cowboy Bebop? didn't think so. I'm saying Tarzan had the same type of ANIMATION, and had a sharp, angular character design.
Tarzan has the same type of animation? Both anime and Tarzan were drawn by hand? Be specific.
Angular? Of course, all drawings must be angular.
I saw parts of that neon genesis evangalon or whatever. People said that was good. I never watched the whole thing, but I saw some of the movement and stuff. I wasn't too impressed.
Ever seen Fantasia 2000?
what classifies a person as gothic? it's got to be deeper than attire...
At 8/19/01 10:34 PM, G-Hawk wrote: And don't forget Tom's essay on how Disney's Atlantis seems "too similar" to Nadia: Secret of Blue Water!!!
They both have the same accessories, but the style isn't anime. The Disney characters don't have those ugly over-grown anime eyes. They are proportional.
Anime is all about improportion. That's what characterizes anime. Recent anime has toned it down, straying from the original anime style.
I criticize anime for it's style. Their plots are usually very good... but their characters are... ugly.
At 8/19/01 10:30 PM, Pants01 wrote: LOL! Most artists want to go to Disney?
Jose Oritz really likes Disney. He's the best animator on NG in case you didn't know, as well as a swell guy. I'd like to go to Disney, as well as many of the artists I have contacted. Nobody wants to go to Disney, eh?
Why would anyone want to go to Disney?
They get very generously paid, and they work on quality projects. I talked to an animator from Disney, and who also created the characters for the Tiny Toons show (I'm not sure if you've seen it). But he was very satisfied with Disney and WB. He said he was paid well, and liked the projects.
You can't get a reference from them if you go looking for another job somewhere else,
If you have a job at Disney, why would you go looking for jobs?
and you don't get any royalties if they sell a picture that you drew.
Who needs royalties when you have a steady income from Disney? If you're good, I'm sure you get stock options. Do anime artists get royalties for what they draw? And if so, I'd like to see some proof.
They pretty much own you, why would anyone want that?
Actually they don't own you. You work on their projects, and any side projects that you may have you can profit on also.
Anyways, Disney is taking a lot of reference from anime.
I need some proof.
Didn't you notice that Tarzan looked a lot like anime?
Hahaha. Thanks for the good laugh. I'd suggest you get to an eye doctor... but please don't drive, you'd be a danger to others.
Tarzan doesn't have big huge eyes and a small triangle for a nose. That is American style in Tarzan. You have it backwards... anime is starting to look more like the American cartoons...
You made a lot of claims that you have no proof of. I'd like to see some evidence to validate your statements.
At 8/19/01 02:51 AM, Vj20 wrote: Actually NOFX and JohnnyAlpha dislike me too.
I don't dislike you, I just pointed out you crave (lots of) attention. I don't really care, if that's your thing, go for it.
High-tops or low-cuts?
I think I'ma get me some low-cuts.
What do you think?
I think anime really sucks. It just looks ugly, and it isnt' appealing to the eye (my eye that is). Tarzan and Fantasia 2000 are the best toons to date, no arguement. Why do you think Disney is such a prominent company and most artists dream about going to Disney? Because they make crappy cartoons? I don't think so...
If you like anime, more power to you. This is my opinion. If you flame me, then you are a Nazi who doesn't like other people to have their own opinions.
San Diego rocks. Hit the beach. With all the hot girlies, how can you complain (unless you're... well...)... It's ok that you are, it's your choice, and (definitely) not mine.
