Drugs are a means of temporarily escaping reality. This can cause problems. People who cannot handle reality can get addicted, and get into problems. Moderation comes hard when you're talking about life. It's like, if you're depressed, it seems like a good route to take, but it usually just ends in regret.

Anyway, yeah, I'm still kicking. I finally got myself a guitar (a few days ago). I've been surfing a lot. I'm still listening to old skool punk rock (I got into sh... shtuff like Necros, Black Flag, etc. etc. although I still love all the old fav's like TSOL and such... thanks so much for helping me on my musical journey :D). Um, I listen to a lot of reggae and old skool/underground hip hop too now. I'm interested to hear what kinda stuff you're listening to.

Humans are predators by nature. Predators have eyes in the front, while most prey (animals who don't attack other animals) have eyes on the side to watch out for predators. Am I saying that our biological "purpose" justifies the eating of meat? No. It's just something to think about.

Ok, first of all, I've known you, or known about you, for a while now RollarGrl (I'm NOFX... You probably don't remember me, but how could I forget a person like you?).

Anyway, I don't think many people here have the knowledge of heroin addictions or of your father to give you good, sound advice. I mean, no addiction is the same.

It just hurts me to see you hurting so much. I cannot even imagine the pain you must feel. But such is life. We all experience things others cannot comprehend, while others experience things we cannot comprehend. I agree with Tanner, you going to visit your father was very courageous and is a testament of your wonderful character.

But think about this. Trying to help your father can be a positive experience. If you help him to become the better person, and outgrow his addiction, your efforts will be well worth it. But that is a very slim possibility. If you fail, at least you know that you tried, and didn't just cover your ears/eyes while he slipped away.

But by the same token, as Panto said, people who do not want help will not receive help. The failure could be very painful, or it could give you a sense of closure, based upon the type of person you are.

It's a real catch 22. I just wish that I could help, but I cannot. This is something that you kinda have to do on your own. I'm sure you've got tons of people to open up to tho. Talk about this with your friends, relatives, or anybody else who knows you well enough to give you good advice. If you ever need anybody to talk to, I'm even here for ya, hon. Nobody has all the answers, but they have hints. The answers lie inside of you. You just gotta search yourself for them.

Panto, that's bad to hear. But then again, I'm not one to deal with the media. I don't watch TV very much, if all. The only thing I watch are cartoons and occassionally sports. I always get so fed up with stuff like biased news, and media whores like you mentioned, that it's just best to stay away from the whole shitfest.

Hendrix is pretty good. Lotsa punk bands have covered manic depression, which I think is one of his best songs. I'm not that keen on All Along the Watch Tower, or many of his other popular songs. Izabella is a good one too. I wouldn't put him down as my all time favorite tho.

Um, second of all, Nirvana is nothing original. They just ripped everything off of old punk bands, mainly the Sleepers. Also, Pat Smear from Nirvana was in the Germs, which is a far superior band than Nirvana ever was. The whole grunge movement whose base principle was apathy was really dumb to begin with. Oh well.

Um, lots of old punk bands (Dead Kennedys, Weirdos, Cro-Mags, Germs). I also like Bob Marley and the Wailers along with other reggae stuff.

I think the best band ever is Bad Brains. I mean, first of all, they're black guys playing punk rock. They played it faster, harder, and with a hell of a lot more intensity than anybody out there. And then they could switch to reggae dub in an instant. Definitely right up my alley. They could play more than one music style, unlike many of the bands aforementioned.
