My problem with Christianity is that it has little tangible evidence. That's just the point, it's faith based where you must believe. It is the single most prevalent anti-intellectual movement on this globe without a single piece of evidence to credit itself. I could write another book similar and pass it off as the truth that's somewhat congruent with modern scientific findings and it would have just as much proof as the bible. You can't disprove something that doesn't exist, because hey, proof's in the pudding : )

More drugs?! Wooo, party! If we regulated drugs, they would have no market up here, so your conservative platform just perpetuates itself.

Our ethics just don't happen to settle at the boundary of the law. So what if it's legal. Slavery was legal, is that okay? We're questioning it on an ethical basis. Sure, if they wanna protest and draw attention, that's great. But if they did they'd be bringing clickers to count and maps to plot it out instead of guns. They are acting like common thugs, not protestors. They sure have the rights to do it tho, you're right, but that's superfluous. Bonus points for tangents.

For those of you who place such faith in our system to provide you with a code of ethics, I truly pity you. Citing "it's not illegal" is the worst cop out and has perpetuated some of the most horrific social injustices throughout history. Jesus was legally crucified under Roman Law. Harriet Tubman was arrested for sitting down in a bus.

As JusticeOfSarcasm showed, these are a militant group, so your passive protest for media coverage is thrown out the door. If they were just protesting, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

Response to: Why the left will lose again. Posted April 3rd, 2005 in Politics

If you consider the "Left" Democrats and the "Right" Republicans, then I don't think you could claim there is a difference in platform. Kerry was pretty much for everything Bush was (supported war, oil drilling, etc.).

The problem with this election was that there was no representation for the real Left except for folks like Nader (who splintered from the Green party) and other third party options.

Response to: Communism Dead? Posted April 3rd, 2005 in Politics

Communism was never alive. There has not been a communist government to date. True, governments supported communism, but they themselves were not communist. Accord to Marx, communism is a globalized nation/state. These are just bastardized forms of socialism we witness today. How could socialism be dead if it was never alive?

Socialism works. You'd be a fool to argue otherwise. Look at your local library. Nobody has ownership of those books. They are publically owned and everyone has access. Of course it has it's shortcomings just like strict capitalism does, but I think that aspects of socialism are extremely intelligent, insightful, pragmatic, and plausible.

Your sarcasm meter is obviously broken. Hope it's still under warranty.

Something tells me that by the way you describe your life, you've never encountered an illegal, or any businesses that deal with them.

I have encountered an extremely hard working illegal immigrant whom my family helped to gain citizenship. We tried to support his business (which happened to stereotypically fall under the gardening business) and after the 7 years it takes living here he took the test and got his dual citizenship. He is one of the hardest working and sincere individuals I know. I would talk to him every morning before I went to high school. And I've had shitty jobs. I'm putting myself through school on merit based scholarships. Perhaps I know a little more than you might seem to conjecture.

Sir, it seems to me like you've never dealt with these situations.

The thing here is, of the illegals I know of, they don't want citizenship. I'll ask them why not next I see them.

Duh. They don't want to have to pay taxes. But they want all the perks of citizenship (healthcare, job opportunities, etc.).

We do, why do you think businesses like Wal-mart and many construction companies use them?

You need a social security number to work at Wal-mart, so unless your illegal aliens have access to good falsification equipment, I doubt you'll see an illegal working at Wal-Mart (unless you're in a really po-dunk town... but obviously, rules are broken, but I'm looking more across the board).

They work more for private businesses.

Good idea, we should start in the United States first. Eh?

I think a critical look at the educational system is the wisest thing we've agreed upon yet : )

At 4/2/05 11:08 PM, -LazyDrunk- wrote: What do we owe Mexico? So they don't have any minimum wage, is that our problem?

Is that our problem? Stupid question in an illegal immigration thread. Thought it'd be obvious : )

If we wanted to make it our problem, and force them to institute a "fair" minimum wage, we'd just be even more "imperialistic", as you call it.

I was proposing diplomacy rather than militaristic takeover, but way to take it to the extreme (which might not be so far fetched with our current administration).

Besides, yes, I think we are treating them like shit. We take jobs away from hard working Americans (which bring up your next point) who require healthcare and benefits, and turn around to underpay Mexican workers with little benefits, no safety, etc. Seems very disparaging to me.

If American wage earners worked half as hard as the illegals, there wouldn't be any demand for them, ever thought about that? Maybe the problem isn't the businesses, but the slackers who can't hold a job. Yes, I work with mexicans and white folk. Guess who works harder?

Why not let them have jobs here then? They are an integral part of the economy and to deny them citizenship is ludacris.

And that's a very simple minded way of looking at the complex job market problem. If hard working was the only thing it took to keep a job, I doubt we'd see such high unemployment. I mean, if you're a doctor, I hope you're more than hard working. Hopefully you're educated too. If you're a construction worker, I hope for your safety and the safety of those around you, you're in good physical condition (which is hard when you're malnourished, isn't it?).

So if you wanna boil it down to single faceted viewpoints, sure! People don't work hard enough and suckle from the bossom of society! It's not my fault they didn't get as big of an inheiritance as I did, grew up in as good of a school district, had access to the same resources I did. Yeah! No hardwork!

Why not just abort Mexican babies? Then we wouldn't have to deal with them coming over here at all.

I'm all for birth control. Overpopulation is bedfellows with every socio-economic viccissitude this globe has seen. There have been numerous studies that show as education levels go up, number of offspring goes down. Instead of your proposed infanticide, how about a little more emphasis on education, eh?

Avoid the social programming. Don't go to church, or watch television. Pick up a nice book. Educate yourself (may I recommend some Frederich Nietzsche or Jean-Paul Sartre to ease the pain of realizing that religion has become quite superfluous).

Symbolism time: I have a hispanic friend named Jesus. If I wrote an 8th grade essay about him being the one (ripped right outta the Matrix context like noah's arc from gilgamesh and jesus from vishnu and I could go on), would you believe it 1000 years from now and form political parties with my essay as your foundation?

Case in point: prooving the existence of a man named Jesus lived in Rome does nothing for either side and it's a moot point. It doesn't proove what the narrative in the bible claims.

But we are killing ecosystems in order to harvest our food. We pump chickens so full of steroids they can't even walk. We have developed new strains of viruses (virii?) like Mad cow disease (cause by cattle cannibalism). Hell, cows are considered a significant portion to global warming (which affects the biosphere).

So although in theory your logic might work have a bit of validity, we don't have unlimitted amount of resources and space. We would have 4 times as much food if we ate the grains we fed to fatten cows rather than eat the cows themselves.

We clear rainforests to grow coffee. We fence off grasslands for cattle, forcing animals from their natural habitat.

Humans are omnivores and I don't disagree with eating meat, but I do disagree with the treatment of animals and how we get the meat. We make animals so unnatural that we're fucking with their genes and stuff just to cater to a market driven by overconsumption (marketing isn't based upon "you need this product" but rather on "you want more because more makes you cool/hip/powerful/etc.").

Sorry for being a tree-hugger, but somebody's gotta stand up to face the facts. We live in a nation of people who are fat, lazy, and apathetic. Obesity is the number two fatal life choice (behind smoking cigarettes) in America. Yet there are people still starving in developing nations. We eat ourselves to death while others don't have anything to fill their growling stomachs with.

But one last thing about animal cruelty. We are forcing species into extinction at an astonishing rate in these modern times. If we are to keep traveling this path, we will bring down whole ecosystems. What if we kill all the wildlife, we won't have bees to cross-pollinate plants, or no decompositing corpses will be there to serve as nutrients to trees. Where do you perceive we'll get our oxygen from? It's called the food chain because we're all linked together, and a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link. If we have no respect for animals and do not make attempts to preserve them, we are only assuring our own demise in the future (maybe not your and my lifetime, but selfishness is not a value I personally aspire to).

Well, maybe they wouldn't come here if we (imperialist America) didn't fuck their people's over so bad. They have no minimum wage down there, so anybody who follows corporate schemes knows that GM moved all their factories down there to recoup investments (and singled handedly caused the collapse of Flint, Michigan). American wage earners were traded for underpaid Mexican ones, and you can bet health and safety standards flew out the window too.

These are symptoms of a larger problem that these "vigilantes" are only perpetuating. I think it's stupid. Just what we need, a bunch of people with mediocre intelligence given guns.

In like Flash 4, there was a scene inspector window in which you could name scenes. I have a character .fla and it's getting annoying to have to identify the character/props as Scene 1, 2, etc. I would like to be able to name them. I'm sure it's a basic answer, but Flash MX is new to me. I didn't know how to transform fills until I realized they made their own tool for it! : (
