Animation Warzone! Posted March 30th, 2009 in Game Development

What is the Animation Warzone?

it is a thread dedicated to the competitive, where animators may test their mettle against others without the pressure of being forced to battle someone better and with the freedom to choose how the battle will go down.

What exactly do you mean by testing your mettle?

I mean that you will create a battle animation against another user, whether it is you fighting with precreated characters, or simply seeing who can animate a certain scenario better. (this can be anything you choose, from a relay race, to an obstacle course, to simply beating up a character they created)

Well, how do I let people know I am open to a battle?

simple. You make a simple "Challenge" post that includes your latest works and what sort of user you are looking to battle. Here is the format I recommend:

Animation Style: this is to let people know what sort of stuff you animate normally. You can put that you are a serious animator, that you like to have humor, that you use sprites, that you use sticks, or anything of the sort.

Example Animations: in specific, these must be animations corresponding to the style you wish to use, so that people can see how good you are.

Preferred Battle Method: There are a few things you can put:
one on one
Scenario
Full Animations (this is something long enough and polished enough to upload...I wouldnt recommend it)

Is that all? What happens after we make our parts?

well, one of you will make a post including both animations, and it will include what battle method you chose. Afterwards, it is up to the public whether you have won or not. If you DO win, I will create a special trophy to signify it.

What if they dont finish or they give up?

simply post your part here anyways, so that I may give you an award. Otherwise, both of you will forfeit, and will be signified as losers in my status post.

if we can get some quality battles done, I will compile them in sets of five (so that everyone will get coauthorship) and upload them to Newgrounds. Good luck, and I will be posting my challenge sheet in the next post.

thanks, I appreciate it. :)

Response to: Review Request Club Posted March 29th, 2009 in Clubs & Crews

I know that I did get 39 reviews, but will anyone here give more advanced critique of my tutorials? If you arent good at that, another review would be fine, too. :P

the grey background is so that you can see the complete drawing, yes. :)

The Wise Man Posted March 26th, 2009 in Art

The Wise Man

The wiseman works, his day relinquished...
His work is never done, his soul is never finished...
He works strenuously till sunset, but he is never restless...
What is it that drives him, even though his path is endless?
In his infinite wisdom, he chose this route...
...but in his heart, he hates it.
Why then, does the wise man work?

I am not the greatest of writers, I am not the greatest of artists, but even I find questions forming when I write, when I draw. This prose is one of said questions, put in a form so that you can see why my mind questions it, why it wonders.

Response to: Create a Scence for a Flash Movie Posted March 18th, 2009 in Game Development

you want to make a house look earie? one way is that in each scene, use perspective to have the house always pointing toward where the main character fears. Use deep colors, use basic objects to cast scary shadows, etc. I will try an example tomorrow, ok?

Response to: Dilogus Mod looking for Flashers! Posted March 18th, 2009 in Game Development

I garauntee they expect the flash author to make the lore map as well. Good luck finding someone mistro. :[ I would ask to do it, but I have no experience with map-making.

Response to: a new idea for newgrounds! Posted March 18th, 2009 in Game Development

I think we should leave the system as is. The review score isnt even really that big of a deal, since there are so many more raters than reviewers. Reviews are for critiques, hate, and comments, that the author can utilize to understand why his didnt get a 5/5.

Response to: Fijeta's new art thread Posted March 18th, 2009 in Art

I really like your last one, the style is cool, and the character himself is really awesome.

Response to: Compare these 2 characters! Posted March 18th, 2009 in Art

thats the irony of it. You post a crappy stick and show your shit character, saying he is way better. I understand this, as the stick sucked. So, to show you just how terrible that drawing really is, I decided to show you one of my stick drawings that is BETTER than your drawing. See the irony in it?

Response to: Compare these 2 characters! Posted March 18th, 2009 in Art

Your supposed awesome character sucks ass. In fact, he sucks so much ass, that I will actually best him with a stick drawing:

(oh the irony!)

Compare these 2 characters!

pft. You get to put up with it, biatches.
It ain't changing.

lol, we dont have to put up with it, you will just get a lower score. Take pride in consistency and detail. :)

and with that chance being correct, his name is Aaron. huh, its a wonder what reading what people say can reveal.

Response to: Alaskan Adversary... Posted March 16th, 2009 in Game Development

would a mod give their verdict of this? Yay or nay?

Alaskan Adversary... Posted March 16th, 2009 in Game Development

I have good reason to believe that http://crackheadco.newgrounds.com/ stole this game. For one, read the credits:

Coding: Justin Wolf
Animation: Viggo
Music: Justin Wolf
Sounds: Pepper

Crackheadco's first name is Aaron. Also, why would Viggo/Justin post this 2 WHOLE YEARS after making it onto newgrounds? This guy, Aaron, is a coder. Which means that he is neither Justin Wolf, NOR Viggo. I knew viggo, and he cant code.

Response to: Designer with Ideas Posted March 16th, 2009 in Game Development

draw something. :) animate something. Just something enough to show you can do what you say. Write up a simple game pitch document, or something.

Response to: Designer with Ideas Posted March 16th, 2009 in Game Development

the problem with how you are doing this is that most people dont just join with someone else because they are both wanting to do the same thing. They want to know if you are good at what you say you do, so that they arent trying too hard on an inevitable deadweight project.

Response to: Screenshot thread... Posted March 16th, 2009 in Game Development

well, good luck nightbreaker! It looks like a great movie, especially considering the length.

Response to: Screenshot thread... Posted March 15th, 2009 in Game Development

the main thing you should remember when working with a 3d flash engine is NEVER USE REALISTIC TEXTURES. Always use textures created specifically for the engine, so as to maximize and optimize the look of the game. Just look at the 3d adventure Superflashbros made, which was done in AS2 and still looked great.

oh, nice! Despite the massive neck on that girl, it looks pretty good!

Response to: Screenshot thread... Posted March 15th, 2009 in Game Development

@Geohoundz55: That looks pretty rad, just work on the tentacles on that menu, they are kinda shabby.

@sinz3ro: woah, nice style!

Response to: Screenshot thread... Posted March 15th, 2009 in Game Development

J1mp, that is looking pretty amazing so far! Great background

@NotAlive: no that is not good enough, those arent screenshots of anything animation related. :\

Screenshot thread... Posted March 15th, 2009 in Game Development

well, I noticed the lack of a screenshot thread, so I decided to kick it off myself:
.:The Animation Screenshot Thread:.

Just post a screenshot of whatever project you are currently working on! Dont forget to include a tad bit of information for everyone, too!

Here is mine:

http://www.pulseshift.com/theseus/view/f 5064cc6-3a5/

Project: Ardamas Vs. Edge (an RHG over at Fluidanims)

Length so far: 9 seconds

Length planned: about 2 minutes (111 seconds to go)

Any other commentary:

I may just color the frames in the end, but I am having a lot of fun with shading. :D

I definitely think this will be a great game, thanks for the comment! (just to give you guys an idea of how awesome this will be, check out his page: http://stone-steven.newgrounds.com/)

Here is a list of potential helpers to make this game:

Stone (definite) http://stone-steven.newgrounds.com/
Terkoiz (definite) http://terkoiz1.newgrounds.com/
Killerkb (definite) http://killerkb.newgrounds.com/
ByondRAGE (maybe) http://byondrage.newgrounds.com/
Mraznbuddy (maybe) http://mraznbuddy.newgrounds.com/
M3d (maybe)
Bluntanims (maybe)
Malfunction (maybe)

most will be doing stuff like bosses and killerkb will probably be doing some music for it, etc.

Response to: Tomocles's Art... Posted March 12th, 2009 in Art

well, there's definitely shade there. :)

lol, but seriously, the setting is current day for the game. The tournament will take place maybe 10 years after the game. And I am not doing the stupid thing where someone goes around out of his own free-will with a fucking monster scarf. Events that take place are what cause him to have such apparel, including the swordarm guy. There wont be assassins who go in with swords, or soldiers who are triggerhappy, it will be logical in those regards.

Here is a background I also did to help get some hype for the game:
