Nah it still will be... It will probably rank better, too! Right now I manually manage those pages and they sort by alphabetical order. In the future, pages will update based on author-specified categories, with the option to sort by criteria such as score and popularity. So Windows Doors would have been added on DAY ONE and would have shown up high on popularity and score sorts.

Vice is having a Where the Wild Things Are Art Contest and is featuring our 2010 calendar amongst the grand prize items!

If you win their contest, you'll be the pride of NG and snag the calendar, along with other prizes.

Don't forget to enter our Halloween Alien Art Contest first, though!

And also the Punkoween Writing Contest!!!!

I made too many news posts this week, please read them all:

Halloween Stuff
Art Portal Reboot
Best of September
Store Updates

Also, I've been freshening up the game pages. I was putting it off because the existing pages will be replaced when we finally integrate the new genre data. SOME DAY OVER THE RAINBOW, right?!

Tom of the Super Flash Bros has made a totally tubular Sound FX Generator that you can use for your games!

Well we came in strong, but things came to a screeching halt as we approached 100... If there is a 24 hour deadline, we just missed it with our 100th Digg, and it has gone up really slow since.

I THINK we can still get featured but I dunno. If anyone hasn't digged it yet, still worth a shot:

http://digg.com/playable_web_games/Miami _Shark_Eat_ducks_smash_boats_and_take_do wn_a_747

That's three weeks in a row that we missed getting featured... Disappointing. :(

Thanks for everyone who has been helping, though! I like to think the movement will keep growing each week if people keep it up.

New in the store: 2010 Newgrounds Calendar!

We have printed 250 calendars based on total sales from last year. We most likely will not print a second edition, so snag one while you can!

Don't forget to support Nathan's documentary by snagging a limited edition Dad 'n Me plush and mask.

And while you're shopping, show Deadspread83 some love.

Artists should check out our Halloween art contest! Post entries in the thread, but also submit them to the Art Portal with the tag "halloween2009" and we'll have a spooky gallery!

Don't miss the Halloween Flash-Off, there are already some great entries and the month is young.

I'm really not trying to post every day, it's just that so much keeps happening and lots more is to come. Not to mention we gotta do our annual Treasure Hunt soon!

For example, did you know Fancy Donkey Tea Party went by totally unnoticed this week?

Thank you everyone who has made donations for Edmund's hospital bill and Denzel-Crocker's flood repair. I'm really proud of the results and more is always welcome. :)

I feel like if we can't get enough community support for stuff to stand on its own, then it's not worth paying for. But who knows maybe it's worth it. I imagine it's really expensive, though - the money is better spent as a sponsorship budget for games rather than a sponsorship budget for Digg.

The last two games of the week didn't make the Gaming page on Digg. The weekly game releases need to build momentum each week for us to be able to keep it going long-term, so help is always appreciated. I like to imagine a day when we can get 100 Diggs without me having to beg.

FOR THE GOOD OF THE FATHERLAND IT IS YOUR DUTY AND HONOR TO SERVE

really though thanks... I promise this will all be worth it if we don't lose momentum.

Seeing these new additions, I have to ask:
1) Does this mean the Flash portal will see the introduction of the briefly talked about front page medals?
and
2) Will there now be a medal for the featured movie/game of the month as well?

The monthly winners WILL have their own medals. This was a case of "launch it, address that later" rather than "hold off indefinitely."

As for the other portals, we DO intend to have all these features in every portal. What everyone needs to keep in mind is that Ross programmed the Flash Portal, Liljim programmed the Audio Portal and Rob programmed the Art Portal. The 2007 redesign brought some crossover between the Flash and Audio Portals, but there is no crossover between them and the Art Portal. Any similarities are purely aesthetic while the guts inside look nothing alike. It's not the most desirable situation but we don't live in a perfect world and NG will always be an ongoing work in progress. Successful features of the Art Portal should be expected to cross over elsewhere eventually but it all takes time and resources.

Today at 2pm we reset the Art Portal tree. We have implemented a new invite / accept system, where multiple people can now attempt to scout you, but ultimately you decide which offer to accept.

To speed up the "recovery", everyone can currently send four invites per day, instead of two.

Things got off to a rocky start - the first batch of invite data was lost (whooooops!) and people who were invited early will get an error message when they click those links. If you were invited you should expect to see a more recent PM with a working link.

If everyone makes use of their four daily scouts this week, the tree should grow back pretty quick!

In other news...

JackSmack is organizing a Chicago Game Developers Meetup!

AlmightyHans is looking for more faces to fill out his Faces of NG Collab.

Bryce Milburn has posted a new Shake the World trailer! Everyone can get involved in this!

Some very serious news...

Denzel-Crocker and pupart were evacuated from their homes due to the flood in the Philippines. Your fellow NGers have been making donations to help them!

Please make a donation to help Denzel and pupart, even $5 helps!

On Tuesday, October 6th at 2pm, we will be resetting the Art Portal scouting tree.

All of your art will remain, but you will no longer be scouted. We are starting from scratch with a new foundation, and scout invites now require your confirmation.

This means you may get scout invites via PM from multiple people, and you can CHOOSE who you want to be your scout, rather than have no control over who scouts you.

We're keeping a back-up of the old tree but expect that within a week, the Art Portal will be close to normal and better than ever.

If you don't wish to be scouted, don't check the box to showcase your art in the Art Portal. It will remain solely on your page and the option to be scouted will not be available.

New in the store: Exclusive autographed Super Meat Boy comic by Edmund McMillen!

This comic was made as a press promo, but we have 50 autographed copies available for just $5 each.

Check out the Super Meat Boy intro:

In related news, Edmund had an unexpected hospital visit this week and lacks insurance or a public option, so he has to pay out of pocket.

If you've enjoyed Edmund's games, please make a donation to help him out.

If you can't donate, tell your Facebook, Twitter or real-world friends about his games so he can make more ad money:

He's been entertaining the NG audience for nearly a decade, so show some support!

October's Monthly Writing Contest has been announced. The theme: Punkoween!

That's right, punk horror stories. Check it out. Also check out the winners from the last writing and music contests.

Vert conducted a poll where twenty popular NG artists responded with their favorite Flash and authors on the site. Here are the results!

Don't miss the Dad 'n Me plush and mask that are funding Nathan's documentary.

Also please read up on our Halloween Flash-Off, with prize money and stuff.

New in the store: Dad 'n Me Plush and Mask, just in time for Halloween!

Hand-made by Nathan to raise funds for his documentary, only 100 exist.

The Alien Hominid plush dolls funded Nathan's cross country interview road trip this summer but there is much left to do!

I know LUIS will have to buy one to protect his e-rep after missing out on the Time Fkuc doll.

BTW Luis has documented the Denver Meetup, as has Afro-Ninja.

Oh and speaking of Halloween, we're having a HALLOWEEN FLASH-OFF!

If you're interested in making something Halloween related, please submit it any time this month, preferably before but not later than October 31st.

You must include the NG Halloween Preloader to participate!

You may also not use any commercial music or characters. Please make use of the Audio Portal and cut them in for a reasonable share of your earnings!

Prizes:

1st: $1,000
2nd: $750
3rd: $500
4th: $250
5th: $100

SCARIEST MOVIE: $200 BONUS
FUNNIEST MOVIE: $200 BONUS

If anyone has an epic Halloween game in the works feel free to ask about sponsorship.

In fact if you have any BIG game in the works don't hesitate to contact me, especially if you have collaborated with artists and musicians from NG.

New in the store: Steven plush dolls from Time Fkuc!

Twenty dolls were lovingly hand-made by Edmund's wife, Danielle.

Each doll has a random spelling of "Fcuk" on the back, just like the game.

A bunch of us are flying out to Denver for the NG Beerfest Meetup this weekend! We're leaving in 9 minutes.

Winners for Madness Day will be announced most likely on TUESDAY next week, after we get back.

I want to apologize to everyone who has PMed me in the past two weeks. I was working on Madness Accelerant around the clock and didn't keep up with many messages. When I get back from Denver I'll be getting all caught up with that! I know there are people with medal info and whatnot that I need to sort out. I'm really sorry for keeping you waiting. :(

I just uploaded an update to Madness Accelerant. Hank now gets up faster from getting knocked down. Enemies get up slower and can take damage while on the ground. I hope I didn't introduce any new bugs.

I will be making updates to MA when I get back from Denver. First will be to add a weapon pick-up button that is only required if you already have a weapon.

Until then... Have a great weekend and we'll see some of you guys in Denver!
