The first one doesn't require as much thinking... All you have to do is sign up for a Newgrounds account (or log in to your existing account and check off the box in your personal profile) to enter. The contest is for free Godsmack merchandise and you can learn more about it right here, as well as play a Godsmack boxing game! Pretty cool, eh? Be sure to check out the links for other boxing games at the bottom of that page.

The second contest is for Flash artists. I've recently been trying to bulk up our Dragon Ball Z parody collection. Now that it has more meat, I think we need to move on to other cool anime - stuff that is less known in the US. Some examples off the top of my head are Cowboy Beebop (kicks ass), Outlaw Star, Trigun and Ninja Scroll (everyone should see this one).

We already have two Trigun movies in The Portal (that I know of), such as this one by Dan Malo. But NG is all about excess, so we need MORE MORE MORE! I have seen tons of DBZ and Pokemon spoofs - it is time to tackle some of the more obscure (and often better) anime classics. I will pick the best new anime spoof/tribute on NG and send the author a free movie of their choice (assuming availability and realistic price)! So go make some art! :)
hey man, ever seen vampire hunter d, ive been thinking about making a tribute to that but my flash skill is utter shit. look at my movies, most of them are just people talking, tell me what you think about vampire hunter d

Vampire Hunter D would be very cool... I haven't seen that one in a while!

Does anyone remember that "Portal Deletion Contest" that we had a few months ago? Well, after a long period of procrastination, we have finally put the winning cartoon in place! It came down to a few finalists, and for the longest time I was planning to use two, but in the end we decided to use the movie by George Daneliuc. It had the most impact and also made us laugh. :)

If you cast the deciding vote on a Portal movie that gets deleted, you will be treated to a special Flash movie!

The closest runner-up was by Gavin Kempenaar, and featured a samurai slicing an .swf file in half as it fell from a tree. I still plan to make an archive of some of the better submissions we received.

We have lots of unfinished plans here at Newgrounds! For a while now, we have actually been storing deleted Portal entries. Eventually, we will be launching The Portal Junkyard - a place where people can go to laugh at deleted movies.

We might also add other fun features, such as the "FINAL SAY" option where the person who casts the final vote gets to leave a special message that stays attached to the movie. Additionally, we might make it so your user profile tracks how

many Flash movies you have "shot down". We're just full of ideas.

Anyway, speaking of unfinished projects - Disorderly is in the final stages of development. All of the art and cinemas by Zeebarf are done, and I'm wrapping up the last of the programming. I sure hope people like this one! Zeebarf and I are already more excited about the next few games we are going to make. Maybe we'll get them out faster than this last one. :)

Blech... So what have I been up to? I spent a few days in LA last week discussing a new site (remember that poll we had about paying for adult content?). I'll have more about that as things progress.

What did everyone think of the Disney Atlantis article? Do you want to see more content like that on Newgrounds, or do you just want more Flash? Tell me what you think!

A/V was at least your own

There are several reasons why I am doing this:

1) TLA is Philly-based, which is cool.

2) Their video recommendations match my own tastes, so it is easier to just have their contest rather than try to make my own. The A/V section was just another part of the site that never got updated.

3) If the section does well it will be changed to fit in with the rest of the site - the TLA branding won't even be on it.

4) Sites are shutting down left and right due to bandwidth expenses - I don't want to be one of them. Newgrounds already runs like shit, and it is going to keep getting worse as traffic grows.

TLA Video specializes in cool independent film (and porn), and is based in Philly - so they are cool to work with. They update their reviews and content often, so even if you don't buy anything you can keep tabs on what's new. Their movie tastes match my own really well - they feature stuff such as Being John Malcovich, Run Lola Run, Requiem for a Dream, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, etc. Shop there and generate comissions for Newgrounds! :)

If it does well we will be dressing up that section to look like the rest of Newgrounds, so that will be pretty cool. Let me know what you think of the selection!
So how much are they paying Newgrounds? I looked at the site and they seem too expensive compared to others...but lemme check their porn vault.....

We are getting 10% comission on regular movies, and up to 20% on porn. Now if only people would actually buy something! :)

That rocks tom! Good fucking idea dude! mm one thing, when AV was up I submited a film but it never apeared what happend? ne way that's a cool Idea dude, ROCK ON

I am REALLY BAD with putting up videos... I'm not really into the whole video thing right now (waiting for better/cheaper bandwidth), so I don't get too active with updating it. I will probably bring back the small collection, although I'm not sure where just yet. :)

I think it's a cool idea - it's a group of people who met on NG, and they will all be living together! It doesn't have to be the hottest thing on the web - it is just cool that an on-line community can actually become an off-line community.

Topic: Dress-Up Fun and more...

Posted: 05/18/01 11:31 AM

Forum: NG News

We've been noticing that despite constant critisism, users have been flocking to celebrity dress-up games. Wade and I got kinda goofy this week and made some of our own!

I just uploaded DBZ Dress-Up Bulma to the Portal (yes, this is the first time I ever uploaded anything to the Portal).

Wade uploaded Backstreet Boy Dress-Up and Anna Kournikova Dress-Up - both are doing really well!

Amazingly, Zeebarf and I are still working on Disorderly. It is getting close to being finished, and I think it will be the most complex Flash game ever made, anywhere! This is just the start, though - Zeebarf and I are planning two more games, so if you love Disorderly, you will really love these.

Here's the really crazy news... Zeebarf has been whipping up some new looks for Pico. Think of the original Pico as the original Mickey Mouse, with the new one being much better. The big question is IF Pico should change. He is pretty cool in his current form, but I feel like I can't do a lot with him animation-wise. I will have some sample pictures up soon and we can do a vote. What does everyone think of the idea of an updated Pico?

We have lots of updates!!!

First off, check out the Dress-Up Collection, with new additions such as Christina Aguilera and Jennifer Lopez! Dress them up, or just undress them!

Next, take a look at the new ALPHAS - we have previews of lots of hot new games & movies coming soon to Newgrounds. We are considering having demos and teasers submitted to the Portal go directly to a listing on the Alphas page (rather than get ranked with regular Portal movies). What does everyone think of this idea?

We have also expanded the Webcam Gallery to a whopping 9 pages! Check out all the new fans we have added! Is nine pages enough, or should we have even more?

Other new collections include whole features on the Backstreet Boys and Powerpuff Girls - hours of fun!

I've been updating the general toons listings. I am still digging around, but be sure to point out any favorites that are missing.

For any questions or comments, simply reply to this posting. Let me know what you think of the new collections, webcam gallery additions, Alpha ideas, and missing toons! Thanks!
