I tried to update the genre info for most of them, so they will fall into place when the game and movie pages finally make use of the genre data and not the old system.

This week's featured game is Level Up! It was developed by titch007uk using the flixel framework.

I've put together a flixel games page to showcase the power of the flixel and encourage more people to try it.

I promised we would wrap up the Treasure Hunt results before Thanksgiving, so here are your winners!

BEST GAME

The winning game is Aura Braver, a shooter that will surprise you with it rule-bending aura field system.

Aura Braver was suggested by Rhete amongst thousands of suggestions this year, so he wins the $200!

ODQ gets an honorable mention for the "A-HA!" moment when you figure out what you're doing.

There's a special place in my heart for a lot of the games featured in the experimental / retro post.

BEST SERIES

The best undiscovered Series is GNU. At the end of the day, we can see Gnu's face amongst the ranks of other iconic characters around here, so he's a legend in the making.

Gnu's author, golfinho, came up repeatedly throughout the Treasure Hunt, making him a gem in his own right!

Gnu was suggested by peixeaquatico, another gem of a user, friend of golfinho and winner of $200 for making the suggestion.

I've also decided to silence all complaints by awarding cash to the CREATORS of the winning submissions as well, so Tugoro, Kinsman and golfinho are each getting $200.

This is why NG is the best place on earth AMIRIGHT?

For anyone who missed it, the winning movie was Criminal!

Here are two weeks worth of Treasure Hunt results in case you're bored over Thanksgiving break:

Day 1: General Comedy
Day 2: Quirky
Day 3: Twisted
Day 4: Experimental & WTF
Day 5: Parodies
Day 6: Nerdy & Dirty
Day 7: Music Videos
Day 8: Action and Drama
Day 9: Action Games (also Wacom giveaway and Winter Flash-Off)
Day 10: Experimental and Retro Games
Day 11: Skill Games
Day 12: Puzzle Games
Day 13: Shooters and Other Games
Day 14: Series

If I don't post tomorrow, have a Happy Thanksgiving! Go play Level Up!

Threads like this really are important because at the end of the day, no amount of planning and management can make up for programmers not being motivated to work one something. When programmers feel like every effort to improve the Audio Portal results in more complaints, they lose interest in working on the Audio Portal.

I've talked about upcoming features before and those features never materialized, so for now I'm just gonna keep my fingers crossed and continue to expect big improvements in 2010. And hopefully they will be met with more threads like this. :)

sr-frogs forwarded me a link to a fun read by an Adobe employee, about what drove the spread of Flash.

The article states, "But history shows that it was Flash's total ecology of creators and audiences -- all the exceptionally diverse people who found value in using Flash -- which successfully drove the later practicality of in-browser video. In a sense, sites like JibJab and NewGrounds made sites like YouTube possible."

I thought it was neat that NG was actually being credited with making Flash itself popular, aside from the fact that our content submission system laid the groundwork for sites like YouTube to follow years later.

Today is Day 14 of the Treasure Hunt results and our final category. I'll announce the results tomorrow!

Everything on this list is part of a larger series, although some never got past one episode. If you like what you see, be sure to check out the author's page for more episodes!

Day 9: Action Games (also Wacom giveaway and Winter Flash-Off)
Day 10: Experimental and Retro Games
Day 11: Skill Games
Day 12: Puzzle Games
Day 13: Shooters and Other Games

Thank you to everyone who stuck around for the past two weeks and tried to watch all these! The goal of this event is to drive exposure to overlooked submissions, so while the results have been a bit overkill, I consider every extra view to be a success.

If you're in the UK, don't miss the NG Autumn Fling this weekend in London! Just thinking about it makes me want to drink a beer, but then I would have to go cut myself.

Speaking of the old days, here's something to ponder.

Back in high school we listened to a lot of industrial bands like Ministry, My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, Revolting Cocks, NIN, KMFDM, Haujobb, Mentallo & the Fixer, etc.. It was dark subversive counter-culture stuff and a lot of it felt pretty legit. Maybe we were just dumb teens I dunno.

So teenagers... If you dig up some Ministry or TKK, does that sound cool to you or does it sound like hokey old shit that old people listened to back in the 90s? Are there teenagers out there still wearing shirts for these bands, like how kids wear shirts for older bands that have been around for generations?

I'll reply later when I finish playing them, but as of right now Aura Braver is my favorite not only for this category but for games as a whole. Amazing game and amazing concept.

ATW got front page after coming up in the Treasure Hunt thread. The winner is most likely to be a submission that didn't win any awards but I still showcase low-view games that weren't featured on the front page previously.

It's Day 9 of the never-ending Treasure Hunt results and we're moving on to GAMES!

But first, I'll announce the winner for MOVIES. The undiscovered gem of 2009 is....

Criminal! It didn't win any awards and never made front page or got put in a collection... And it's just got GEM written all over it.

Tugoro isn't a well-known artist either, although surprisingly I had showcased one of his other movies in a things you missed post this past February.

The finder of the gem and winner of $200 is TURDO.

SO where were we?
