Pencil art such as this is fine:

But a lot of the pencil art we've seen, even some decent stuff, still feels more suitable for the user pages and not the main listing.

The Real Silent Hill Meetup is happening today and tomorrow! If you live near Centralia, PA, you can come visit a town with an ever-burning mine fire and hang out with a bunch of local NG folks.

If you live in Boston, check out the Boston meetup thread.

We've been watching the Art Portal and making changes to fine-tune it. Please note that works in progress and pencil sketches should only be showcased on your user page and not included in the public Art Portal listing. You also now need at least four submissions before you are eligible for scouting and approved artists can only scout two users per day at the moment, so use those scouts wisely!

The Power of Three summer event is ongoing and there are some amazing games in the works! HappyHarry and Egoraptor have been at the office this past week working on art for their games. Afro-Ninja was here for a few days developing the engine for his game with Ego. The-Swain was here as well, fleshing out plans with PsychoGoldfish and Liljim, also visiting this week. I'll be emailing all the teams when we're ready to take the next big step forward. For now, keep plugging away so you have the potential for some good teaser screenshots!

Over 8,500 people filled out the survey!

Here are some glimpses of data from the people who answered:

Male: 95.9%
Female: 4.1%

Age

Under 16: 28.8%
16-17: 26.8%
18-24: 38.7%

Game Consoles

Xbox 360: 45.6%
PS3: 21.1%
Wii: 50.5%
DS: 60.5%
PSP: 32.2%

In other news, ThoseSneakyFrench has been putting together quite the NG computer case!

I paid $200 to use a REAL survey website, so please end our curiosity and FILL OUT THIS SURVEY.

Also my apologies to Rob for bumping his Art Portal announcement post. I wasn't going to, but everyone was giving me a hard time for not posting the following plug:

We have a booth at the Wizard World convention in Philadelphia this weekend! If you come by the Philly convention center today or tomorrow, you can meet Egoraptor, MindChamber, Luis, Stamper, JohnnyUtah, Swain, HappyHarry, Liljim, Afro-Ninja, Tomamoto, SardonicSamurai, Jonas, 36Holla, and all sorts of other fine NG folks!

Today our booth was visited by guys like Chakra-X and Absent! Many more NG regulars will be popping up tomorrow, we are booth 402, on the right as you enter.

Don't forget to FILL OUT THIS SURVEY.

The results everyone is seeing are their own results. I think they run the stats on a delay, because when I try to view the results, it says there are zero responses. My guess is real-time data would be too hard on their database, so every so often a script will run that updates the available results. I might be the only person who can see them, I'm not sure.

Sorry about it not being the best survey site... It's been hard to find a site for multi-question surveys. We used to have a poll system on NG but it has probably been broken for a loooong time now.

Every once in a while, we like to update our KNOWLEDGE about what the average Newgrounds visitor is like. We can use this information to get better and more relevant ad campaigns, but it's also fun for us to know just who is browsing NG. None of this info will point back to you - it's a survey I set up on a third party website.

EDIT... I have yanked the survey. I'm under the impression the survey site was not logging results from people who didn't have accounts there. So basically I just wasted my time creating a 23 question poll and some of you just wasted your time answering it. Sorry about that.

So instead of filling out a poll, go watch this:

It's been a while since we've taken a poll of NG users and we're looking for some fresh DATA... Last time I found a website that offered multi-question poll construction and hosting, so everyone just went to a page on that site and filled out the poll.

Now I'm looking again and I can't find anyone who offers that service. I find lots of sites that let you host a free single question poll, but none that offer free multi-question poll hosting. Does anyone know of one?

Ok I won't be considering any more banners for prizes!

I've decided to award the $30 store credit to BornToByte, because he sent in the first banner that got me to put together the rotation, had nice original visuals, and managed not to offend all the ad-blocker people.

I have been getting so many complaints from offended ad-blocker people, it's insane... There must be 1000s of people running it. I wish they could just take the silly ads with a grain of salt and not floor me with complaints about it... Shows how douchey and entitled they really are.

We don't want it to be used for illegal music sharing, sites that make that sort of thing easy get shut down by the RIA. So it's hard to give people easy .wav and .mp3 sharing.

Topic: Wide Layout Update 3

Posted: 06/05/09 08:31 PM

Forum: NG News

Goldfish has just launched the third series of updates to the new wide view page. Here's what has changed:

1) Ad-Blocker users no longer get a broken layout.
2) If you turn the lights off and on, your browser's back button will work as expected and not toggle page elements.
3) The page should now appear to load faster, as the ads don't start loading until the page itself has loaded!

So less lag, less bugs... An overall better experience!

In other news...

Adam Atomic has just released flixel! What is flixel? To quote Adam:

"flixel is a completely free collection of Actionscript 3 files that helps organize, automate, and optimize Flash games; an object-oriented framework that lets anyone create original and complex games with thousands of objects on screen in just a few hours, without using any of the Flash libraries."

There's a lot of potential for flixel to usher in a new universe of awesome Flash games, so we're offering a $250 prize to the best flixel-made game submitted to NG in the next month! If you make a flixel game and submit it before July 5th, PM me with a link!

Check out the Acapella Music Collab!

BTW some stuff accidentally got pushed from staging that implied the Art Portal might be going live tonight. Sorry, it isn't! More news on that later.

Can we digg this?

So Goldfish has come up with a way to offer a house ad to people running ad blocker.

Since only people with ad blocker will see this, we might as well call them out... Something like:

"If you're gonna block the ads, at least buy something from the store!"

The rest is up to you; some sort of fun and exciting visual that sums up the great stuff you can buy in the store. The best ad will be seen by thousands of bandwidth moochers, and if there are several good ones, we'll set up a random rotation!

Width: 728
Height: 90

The creator of the BEST ad will also get $30 store credit.

Thanks in advance to anyone who participates!!!! Good luck!

UPDATE BECAUSE I'M AN IDIOT:
If you can submit a 599 wide shrunken version in this thread, that would be great. We'll then ask for the file if you win. You can also use Photobucket or whatever to host the full image and link it here. The most perfect entry would be a 599 wide version for quick viewing, and a link to the full version. Sorry about that.
