Yeah maybe Canada should do the same. That may stop American draft dodgers and army deserters from jumping over our border. Damn American illegals who think they can get a free ride in Canada >:(

IWell, there is already an international law in place for the draft dodgers. Basically it states that if you are found in Canada and when the run a background check, find out you are a draft dodger, your taken in handcuffs back to the US and put in prision. So basically a draft dodger would have to take up a false identity in order to even have a chance in Canada.

The left's selective criticism is mind-boggling. It's a good thing that the people in Iraq have more common sense, cuz otherwise they'd be rooting for the terrorists.

Prosecutors said Maynulet violated military rules of engagement by shooting a wounded, unarmed man. Maynulet, a Chicago native, maintained the Iraqi was gravely wounded and that he shot him to end his suffering.
Oh come on. I thought that it was compassionate to execute someone who's gravely wounded. There has been lots of research done stating that death by gunshot is a euphoric, dignified way to die. I'm sure the soldier was able to look right into his eyes and tell that the man wanted to go, even if their was no legal documentation.

I'm going to have to agree with Rooster on this one. The guy was mortally wounded- a gunshot to the head saved him alot of pain and suffering. Also I think the only reason this was brought to trial is because the media is being permitted on the battlefield...People can't take the sights of war and cannot realize that when your out there its killed or be killed...At least the media isn't all over the place, like in Desert Storm- in that war CNN was their most valuable informant.

Uh... it wouldn't surprise me if they did.

I read that book on a poor man's silencer...It's pretty interesting. But what I dont understand is how books can cause legal problems- isn't that a violation of our 1st ammendment? I know, it encourages things, but violent movies encourage killing- whats the difference?

Ok, after reading this twice to make sure I understand what the hell Fox is bitching about, I finally can say something about it. Fox claims that the US is in violation of free trade agreements that were previously made between the North American countries- the USA, Canada, and Mexico. He claims we are violating the "open boarder policy" by building walls between the US and Mexican boarder. Yes, this is not a type of free open boarder, as Fox says, but my question is- Have you had your head in the sand for the past 2 years "El Presidente?" Mexicans have ILLEGALLY crossed the US boarders to the point where there is a population of about 10 million in our country. And due to a liberal "welfare for everyone" policy we have- we support these illegals. When Americans cross the Mexican boarder, we do so legally and if Fox cannot see that the number of people "vanashing" from the country (since they are not signing out, if you will, with the boarder patrol) and cannot see the increasing number of Illegal Mexicans in the USA, he might as well gouge out his eyes and donate them to science.

After all this, I believe the US should, In fact, build a wall seperating the US from Mexico with only a small opening- which can easily be gaurded by boarder patrol. Vincente Fox may not care wether his people leave, but we sure as hell care if they enter our country. And if protection from illegals mean we lose trade from Mexico- Fuck them, they don't make a significant contribution to the world economy anyway.

The only way I think this could happen is if the shrapnel was lodged in muscle, remained in a halmless position for maybe 27-30 years, until it was moved to the point of becomming involved with the bloodstream or severing an artery. But this is highly unlikely, most people who have surgical instruments left in them KNOW something isn't right a few weeks later. He would definately be feeling horrible after a few weeks, and if he did live 30 years, would be in excruciating pain.

Hey, can someone explain to me why folks are angry at the right for trying to save this woman? What difference does it make if her life was spared?

I think people were fighting over the ideal. Being the first case like this to draw national attention, everyone fought for the precident this would achieve- which means future cases would be dealt with in the same manor as this one. Those who fought against it fall into 2 categories- those who themselves do not wish to live this way (but the point of controversy that no one seems to understand is that you can PREVENT living like this by stipulating it in your will) and those who don't want to support those who are in this condition of helplessness. The 2nd type don't care wether a relative or spouse is dead or alive- they don't want to pay the ongoing hospital and treatment bills that you KNOW are a major factor in the husband wanting the tube pulled. On the other side we have religious fanatics that view all life as sacred and those that are afraid that the precident set by this will cause their relatives/spouses to be "forced" into death. Basically the whole thing is a family issue...that ineeds to be dealt with IN THE FAMILY...not in public. I'm sure they could've arranged something, and the Church (for the religious fanatics) would have absolved the marriage making everyone happy. But the family doesn't want to pay the huge bills and Mr. Shiavo can ride the Church thing as a scapegoat, and thats why we have our problem/

Now, nine out of ten jobs require that you have a college degree etc before they will even look at you.

Yes, and that mentality does fuel the colleges that are cutting students for a profitable gain. People often forget that it is not a bad thing to work with your hands. I know many rich men who started as carpenters or auto mechanics and strived toward a goal- own your own business. It's so easy to form a small business, and with that small business, you essentially make all the money being the big shot CEO. even if you employ 2 people, you will make half of the business profits and the employees will make 1/4th each. And since you only need 1/2 of your large wage to sustain a reasonable life, you can invest it back into your business to make you MORE money. Working with your hands is not a sin- it teaches you the tricks of the trade.

Please discuss.

And Maus, give me some leeway here, I am not trying to discuss the case, but why the case is an issue; I'm not wanting anyone to tell there opion, but rather I am looknig for people to comment on the people who have made this occurance a major issue.
I care for the underlying judicial reasons in particular. It was a lazy, sloppy case, and in my mind it was obviously furthering a political agenda. Also, it's becoming apparent that the judicial branch has the potential for huge amounts of power that I don't believe it should have.

I also mourn for the woman. Regardless of how you feel about life issues in general, the way she died was far from dignified.

I agree with you on the way she died. Starving to death is a barbaric way to die- When you know you are going to die. Why not use the lethal injection, which only costs $48 a shot? It would have been both cheaper and more humane. But I also know the reasons why they didn't. A starving person can be brought back into health- which gives the Supreme Court time to change their minds. The 2nd reason is that people tend to get all worked up when they see the words " lethal injection"- they associate this with unnatural and forced death, along with the death of a criminal.

Topic: Religion Thread

Posted: 03/31/05 08:33 PM

Forum: Politics

I think that religion is something that was created in the beginning as an explanation for things that humans cannot comprehend. And to some extent, this basic fact affects all religion- more so ancient ones than christianity and other more recent religions. They all have one thing in common, a set of moral codes. And usually as a result of following these codes, we are saved from damnation or promised happiness. I, for one, am unsure of which religion is the correct path. I have also become disgusted how society picks and choses which parts it wants to keep, then crucifies me (no pun intended) if I do the same. An example of this is the Jewish religion, which changed as women's rights became an issue- they went from believing women as "unclean" to the point of not being able to worship during times and as "home-makers" to making them equal to men, YET they still require the observance of pigs being an "unclean" animal and circumcision. Things like that get to me. Also the fact that God killed millions for crimes, yet Catholics believe we should support criminals in prisions rather than kill them. Even though I am uncertain as to my religious ideals, I do know that we must all strive to live to the best of our abilities and in a fashion that does not intentionally harm others. But that doesn't mean that if someone pushes me, I'm not going to hook them in the jaw- because I will. This shows how we must be able to adapt while holding this ideal, and uses the scientific rule of "every action has an equal and opposite reaction." No matter what religion you choose, as long as your not an asshole and do the best you can, I dont think a supreme being will find any fault with you.

On several major Airlines, If you are so fat that you spill over into the other seat, you have to pay for 2 seats. Ths is to ensure the comfort of all the passangers. The commitee for the obeese says this is mean spirted, but enveloping your neighbor in blubber is not!.

What a sad nation.

Thisis a free country, and if u want to be fat and eat food that isn't good for u, u can do that...but BE PREPARED TO SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES..its not our fault that they're fat, its their own and we shouldn't be held responsibe for that.
As for the having to pay for 2 seats issue, i completely agree with it..i don't know if anyone else was stuck on a 3 hour flight next to a fat person, but its not fair to the normal wieghted person...the fat lady i was sitting next to was complaining that i wasn't giving her enough room and that i had to sit all the way to the right of my seat for her...she even called the flight attendent!
In conclusion if u r overwieght its ur own fault and u should suffer the consequences!

a tippmann is a nice starter/intermediate gun. DON'T get a crappy gun because you'll end up buying a new one when it doesn't satisfy your paintball needs (example of crappy guns: anything by brass eagle). and if your a beginer DON'T buy an expensive or complicated gun or you'll spend more time fixing it or maintaining it than playing. i'm personally going with a tippman model 98 custom, as soon as my friends' parents let them get guns so we can play together.
