Well if you find the link, there is a place where you can put icons on submissions that need them so there should be a dept. that focuses on helping submissions getting icons.

Yes, but we don't do that. The only thing that might be close that is the Flash Department, but they are only interested in making flashes, not making icons for other flashes. And if you have an idea, you should have joined and then posted it.

I’m handing in my resignation from the NGPD.

Ever since I transferred on July 20, 2006 on page 199, I have posted 100s of times here. And you guys have really made me feel at home. And I’ve shared a lot with you guys; from posting my parental control woes to being the first to post on page 200 to being a Unit Ops for a week, you guys have cared about me. I even learned how to better my posting skills here.

I’ve also seen a lot, from the resignation of Crawford to the bust of a forum to the revival me and Jimmy attempted to bring to it with some fan fictions, and I’ve loved every minute of it. Even though I didn’t end my career here as I wanted to, I think it was a blast.

Damn you Barney Bunch and your dumb fart flashes!

But people have to move on. You have helped make my Newgrounds experience a good one so far. With friends like Bran, Tails and Jimmy, you guys made me laugh and want to come here every day just to read your posts and chat with you guys. Tails, you were there to step into some big shoes of Crawford to lead this, and at that point we got closer. Bran, I’ve known you since my first club, the Tetris Crew, which we kept going long after it should have died (see you in October during the State Jamboree). And Jimmy, I’ve always felt a little rivalry between us because of our eloquent use of the English Language, even though I have no hope against an English teacher. I hope that I can stop in and check up on you guys and make sure you’re not getting into trouble.

I know that the EGB is a big, cold, lonely place, with many members, and I’m sure I’ll find some one there I can hang out with. But it won’t replace the empty feeling of my time with you guys. I love you guys in a completely non-homosexual way and will miss you terribly.

I know I’ve been ranting to make it seem like I’m important here and try to out type Jimmy’s application, and some of you who don’t know me don’t care, but I wanted to wrap up my speech to tell all you that you are and forever will be my friends, whether your on my street or on the other side of the world.

*Salutes, and walks out of the building*

Favorites are Elephant Bones, John The Fisherman and Killing In the Name. and Carry on My Wayward Son isn't too bad

I doubt Eccleston would ever come back, plus they said no multi-Doctor episodes. I'm sure there would have been more press about it if it was him, too. I wish Tom Baker hadn't been joking, though, when he'd said he would be playing the Master as a tribute to the old series. That would have been great, and about as close to a multi-Doctor episode we would ever get.

Meh, not exactly. Mostly I'm on my basement computer, which works off a wireless router connection to the modem upstairs. So that slows it down a little, plus there's 2 firewalls, and this computer has a lot of programs on it and is a couple years old. But that doesn't really slow it down to much, maybe a couple of kilabytes per second, but nothing too serious. What happens though, is that the router blacks out, losing the internet connection and unable to find it again. This means I have to restart the computer (easier than moving the monitor and everything to unplug than replug it). But that rarely happens

Response to: [Official Books in General Topic] Posted April 7th, 2007 in General

I'm surprised no one has entered this book. The cover at the bottom isn't the one of the book I have, but I like it anyway.

I'm reading Nineteen Eighty-Four, or 1984 for short. It is about a Man, Winston Smith, who lives in a dystopian future. His house in in London on Air Strip One, which is what they call Britain. There are 3 super countries: Oceania (country Winston lives in), Eastasia, and Eurasia, all in perpetual war with each other, each changing alliances every couple of years. No one is sure if there really is a war going on, or at least to the magnitude that the government pumps it up to be.The Party, the ruling body, controls everything; what you wear, what you do, what you say. They even control the past, and monitor you with giant "Telescreens" where you can get news and such, and the Thought Police watch you from them. Each of these are run by different departments: The Ministry of Truth (changes the past), the Ministry of Peace (controls the war), Ministry of Love (the police force), and the Ministry of Plenty (controls food and other goods). Also, there are huge posters with the Party's slogan: War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ingorance is Strength and a picture of the ruler* Big Brother on them. The city is run down, and everyone is hungry and poor except for the Inner Party, the first of three classes (Outer party and Proletariat). There is an underground movement, although no one is sure that it is really happening, lead by a man named Goldstein, and is called the Brotherhood.

*no one knows who Big Brother is. Winston doubts that there even is a Big Brother, or if there was that he's still alive.

Now that the back-story is done, let's delve into the meat of it.

Winston Smith is a man who works for the Ministry of Truth "rectifying" old newspaper articles. He hates his life, drinking bad gin and living in a crappy apartment. He also remembers things that the Party says never happened, like 4 years ago Oceania was at war with Eurasia, yet now they're in alliance with them. So he buys a journal and begins to write in it, which would be considered a crime. He meets this girl, Julia, who at first he thinks is a Thought Police in disguise turns out to be a rebel who is in love with Winston. They rent a room above the shop Winston buys the journal from and have sex, another crime. After a while, they get Goldstein's book, called The Book, and soon after are caught by the Thought Police. They are put in separate cells, and given no food for an unknown amount of time (there are no clocks or windows in the cell) before being dragged away and beaten to near death and questioned and forced to give confessions to crimes they did and didn't commit with people they don't even know.

After the confessions, they are tortured even more in an attempt to become the model citizen; some one who unconditionally follows The Party and Big Brother and all the laws. After shock therapy, and probably weeks (still no clocks or windows, but Winston is given 3 meals at equal intervals) of alone time, he is taken to Room 101. Room 101 is a room where "The thing that... is the worst thing in the world" is in it. That thing is whatever you hate the most, and in Winston's case, rats. A cage of rats are drawn near Winston's face until he tells them to "do it to Julia", breaking him. It ends with Winston in a cafe, drinking gin, remembering an encounter with Julia after the arrest. Then, after a huge victory in Africa, "[Winston] had won the victory over himself. He loved Big Brother.", which ends the book.

Very good read, although has a rather large vocabulary, but nothing that most high school students could get through. Online Edition for those who are too lazy to go to a library. If you like it, you can read other works, all you have to do is click the link in the upper right hand corner that says "Library".
