This is one of the leading factors of your opinion. Well you can't call it amazing, grammatical wise, the Mormon message is deafening, and the books got steadily worse. Apparently the girl gets pregnant by a "dead" vampire and the werewolf claims their child as his. Endings usually suck though.

Why does everything ever written HAVE to be a grammatical masterpiece? Why is it suddenly illegal to write a book that's down-to-earth, and easy to understand for pretty much anyone aged 12 or older?

I personally love her style, because it's DIFFERENT. I like not having to read huge words all the time, even when I do understand them. I like reading easy-to-understand books, because the story behind the text is what matters to me, not the goofy sentence structure, and vocabulary.

Stephanie Meyer realized this, and wrote the books to include a larger audience, and you can't really blame her for that. I love the whole story, and the ending doesn't suck. If you really cared at all, you'd understand that the ending was actually quite happy, and not nearly like you said. The werewolf involved doesn't "Claim" anything, and I wont spoil it for readers any further than that.

If you haven't read the books, or written them, I don't think you have a justifiable argument, or even a right to have an opinion. Until you push past that first half-chapter, and actually TRY to read it, you might find yourself stuck in this wonderful fantasy world of Bella Swan and Edward Cullen. I rejected them forever, until I TRIED to read them, and I was instantly hooked.

I agree with Carmilla. You people really should try reading it. They're awesome. The last book was my favorite book ever, read for pleasure anyway.

Giving a gift anytime soon? Posted December 9th, 2008 in General

Well, I hope you weren't brought in by a misleading title, as I couldn't really think of a great one.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone here was planning on giving someone they know, or love a big gift anytime soon, and they can't wait to brag about it, or they just HAVE to tell someone.

I personally don't have a girlfriend or anything, but I plan on giving a few friends of mine, who are girls something home-made, like a bracelet or something. I might need ideas on that, because I don't really know what to get any of them.

So, are you planning on giving someone you love a big gift, come Christmas, or any time nearby?

A second question, just for discussion purposes:

If you had unlimited time, resources, and money, what kind of gift would you give to the person dearest to you? Be it homemade, or bought, describe it, and tell us all about it, and why you would give it to them.

I think it's good to get into the holiday spirit early, and some good healthy giving never hurt anyone. I hope you all have someone close to you that you can find time to give a gift to. I also wish you all a very Merry Christmas...early.

I have.

I've read the whole series, and they're not crap at all. Most people here just refuse to like anything outside of their mindset. I look at all books equally, until I start reading, in which case, if it's crap, I don't continue reading it. Half the people here haven't touched the books, and I don't think they have a right to have an opinion.

It just so turns out, too, that chicks dig this stuff, and knowing a good bit about it gets you at the very least started in a conversation with the mystical "Female" creature you all fantasize about. It's nice to hear girls talk about it, mainly because they see the whole series COMPLETELY different than men do.

I personally loved the series, and I wish people could move beyond misconceptions, and predispositions, but I suppose it's only a dream. If you like Vampires, this puts a whole new, logical spin on things, and I think you'd enjoy it.

Response to: Color Depth and logarithims Posted December 8th, 2008 in General

What I am wondering is how I could use log to find out what x is in: 2^x = 256.

I know it is 8, but that is not the point. The point is I want to be able to convert from number of displayed colors to color depth.

I always like answering a few Math questions, and so here I go.

I like to look at a logarithm as another way, simply put anyway, to write an exponent. So, in essence, the way to write your 2^x = 256 in logarithmic form would look something like:

log_2 256 = x

The _2 signifies base 2, and 2 is your base of the exponential (2^x...). When you want to get really specific, you can use a scientific calculator to find decimal values that are pretty accurate.

It's called the Change of Base Theorem, or something along those lines, and in your calculator, to find the solution to:

log_2 256 = x (read Log base 2 of 256 is equal to x)

in your calculator, you can "type,":

log 256 / log 2 (log of 256 divided by the log of 2 is...)

and you should get your decimal equivalent of 8, which is 8.0, or on most calculators, simply 8.

I hope you understand SOME of that, and if you have any other questions, let us know. :D

Good luck too, BTW.

Your current strategy of not being able to spell, for some reason, does not interest me.

We all have ideas. Another zombie game really isn't needed either, especially after Left 4 Dead. Unless you show us your "Awesome" ideas, I don't think anyone will care.

Well, Jon-86 was asking around in the programming regular lounge about awards this year. I figured, since I don't contribute a whole lot, and I think this would be at least mildly interesting, I'll see it through this year.

I believe I will stick to the categories from last year, and I'll even add a few.

I believe that should cover about everything. I please ask that you try to keep your votes somewhat neat, and if you don't, I'm likely to disregard them, so keep them readable, at the least.

Rules:

1.) You may only vote ONE TIME.

2.) You may NOT change your votes, therefore, your first vote is your last vote.

3.) You may only nominate people from this year.

4.) If you cannot think of anyone for a specific category, or you wish not to vote in said category, please put a [-NONE-] in the space.

5.) You may come back to your vote, meaning, if you put [-NONE-] somewhere, you can replace that later, but only the ones with [-NONE-].

6.) Have fun, and please, for the sake of "Sportsmanship," please keep the match clean.

7.) [MUST READ] I think I'll set the deadline to December 30. I will announce winners on December 31.

I hope that covers everything, and I wish everyone the best of luck! I will cast my votes later, because I still don't know who to vote for.

(If you have comments on the categories, or anything else, please let me know. I want this to be at least a little fun.)

Response to: animator Posted December 1st, 2008 in Game Development

it took me about 3 weeks to do this, while studying for exams, so I think its good if you ignore the lack of graphics of any kind. controls: wasd for moving for player1, gy to attack and shield respectively, arrows to move for player 2, 45 to attack and sheild on num pad

Listen, I don't like putting people down, but I have a few tips for you.

1.) Your game makes no sense. Shield and attack from what? Plus, I don't think there IS an attack, and I can't do anything to the other player, so, it's kind of goofy.

2.) Don't make a crap engine, please. I could whip something like that up in an hour, or less, easily. I haven't done AS in 2 and a half years, and I could still do that. I'm getting back into the swing these days.

3.) Make us WANT to animate for you. I hate seeing collaborations fail, because we aren't interested from point A. It's your job, considering you're finding an animator, to completely surprise us with a great engine, and a clear focus.

4.) Good luck on finding an animator. You have potential, definitely, and please don't take any of this the wrong way. It's constructive criticism, and I hope you learn something for it.

I don't think you can delete system32 while your computer's on anyway (If you're actively running Windows), because Windows wont let you delete files it's currently using.

That's been my experience with attempting to delete it anyway.
