You're probably using AS3. In Actionscript 3, you can't have actions applied to objects themselves.
What I don't understand is how the hell this idea can be used to reaffirm someone's belief in Christianity and Jesus, specifically. Or any other specific religious dogma for that matter. Just how the hell does "Oooh, quantum mechanics is so amazing!" translate to "Therefore Jesus was born from a virgin and died for ours sins"?
Ack, I didn't explain that well enough.
I've just always somewhat believed in Christianity, and since this reaffirmed my beliefs in God, it reaffirmed my beliefs in Christianity. Sorry for explaining that somewhat badly.

Of course. Why do you think they keep making them?
Normally, I don't try to argue too much about religion, because it's retarded. That being said, my point here is not to argue with anyone about beliefs. It's just a simple question, so please don't go overboard.
I'm just wondering, out of force of habit, if you believed in something, like Christianity, what REALLY made you stop believing?
I haven't stopped believing in Jesus, because I know he exists in my heart. Sure, it's a stupid argument for "Logical" atheists or agnostics, and I just don't care any more. I used to care about what others believed, and why I wasn't like everyone else, and my viewpoint has changed drastically, especially after reading scientific research.
I thought at first, that reading some of Einstein's works would push me away from God, and I was happily surprised to find out it did the opposite. Specifically, I was reading on Quantum mechanics, and it made me realize how foolish as humans we really are.
I'll give a quick synopsis of Quantum Mechanics for those who don't understand it.
Quantum Mechanics is the study of the elementary particles of our universe. This includes particles like Protons, Neutrons, Electrons, etc. The reason QM [Will abbreviate from now on] is so difficult to grasp, is because of something in Mathematical, or even Scientific terms, is called a superposition.
What's a superposition?
Assuming you understand basic probabilities, it means that all possible outcomes of an action exist at the same time.
Do you remember the old proverb: "If a tree falls in a forest, and nobody is there to hear it, does it make a sound?"
The concept is very similar. The interesting thing about everything we do as humans, is that we DEPEND on observation, and senses to prove things correct.
Anyway, say you have two towns. Town A has absolutely no trees, and Town B, which is 50 miles away, contains scattered trees. Now, I'm sure most would agree that there is definitely a possibility, that a tree could fall in Town B at any given time, however small. This creates the probability for the action to occur.
Now, without observing ANYTHING, meaning, you can't detect the sound waves of the hypothetical fallen tree, you can't see it, you're basically nowhere near it, PROVE that it fell.
We now come across a very interesting situation. Without observing the tree, we can't really PROVE that it fell, or that it didn't fall. Without knowing for certain, we create probabilities based on weather conditions, tree conditions, etc. on where or not it actually fell.
This is one part of QM. Since we can possibly calculate probabilities, we still don't know for certain, and the only thing we do know for certain, is that all of those options are possible, so they might all exist at the same time. [Superposition]
This also creates a new problem. Say it did fall. Was it predestined to fall, by a higher being, or, was it a fact of random chance? Again, we can't prove or disprove either, so we don't know for certain.
My point is, Einstein didn't necessarily believe a lot of theories involving QM. He argued that God didn't "Play dice" with the Universe. He thought that life wasn't a matter of probabilities, and that God pretty much saw how everything worked, and told everything how to work in peace.
I didn't really think this was going to bring me closer to religion, and God, but it did. I realize that we as humans on this home called Earth have discovered so little, that we really have no clue about anything at all. I just don't see how life can boil down to goofy probabilities. I also believe that we, as the creation, shouldn't dishonor the creator that put us here.
Do I believe in evolution? Yea. Do I think it happens by magic? No. I think God primarily controls how this planet works, and Evolution is a minor thing he controls.
I'm usually not so upfront about my beliefs, but in explaining why I haven't looked away from God, I thought it was important. I also like discussing about QM or Math, or Science whenever possible.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
I know this will provoke several arguments, and it's not really meant to. I just needed to get a few things off my mind that I've been thinking about lately, and normally I wouldn't do it here, but I feel like discussing it, because I may understand myself better. I know a lot of it is probably confusing, because I have lots of trouble putting my thoughts into words. If I can help at all in what I'm trying to say, please ask. I was just curious, and hoping this would provoke a bit of discussion.
TL;DR :
Now I ask you the question. If you have stopped believing in a Religion, or anything, (Please no Santa crap), why did you REALLY stop believing? Again, it's not intended to be a huge argument. I just want to know why you stopped believing.
I also wish you all a Merry Early Christmas. To others, have a Happy Holiday.
Well, I do understand that it isn't 2009 yet, but I supposed that starting the thread early, to "Officially" announce your New Year Resolutions would be an interesting thing to do.
If you don't have any New Year resolutions, then start making some. It's always nice to try and be a better person the following year.
I also believe that there should be a few rules for possible resolutions, for things such as religion.
My only request, is that if someone says something about getting more spiritual, or focusing more on a religion, that you don't make fun of them, or their choice of religion. Everyone's resolutions are up to themselves, and we're here to discuss them, not poke fun at them. This applies to everything too, not just religion. No making fun, basically.
My current resolutions are as follows:
1.) Get more active with family affairs.
2.) Hang out with friends more often.
3.) Become more proficient in the areas of Math and Science.
4.) Read more into Christianity; Read the entire Bible.
5.) I'd like to have a girlfriend one day.
6.) Make at least ONE Flash game. [I have a terrible habit of not being able to finish things.]
7.) Look into the area of Physics.
8.) Choose a college.
9.) Get outside a little more. [What? Sun?]
10.) Learn to create more Lucid Dreams.
11.) Tell people "Thank you," and "I love you," more often.
Well, that's my fair share of stuff to say I think. Now it's your turn. What are you hoping to do this next year? Do you have conflicts you want to resolve? Loved ones you want to spend time with? Personal goals to accomplish? The list is endless, but I want to hear your part.
I also wish everyone around a very Merry Christmas, and for others, please enjoy your Holidays.
For Flash related questions, including Actionscript questions, please head over to the Flash Forum. =D
Flash questions, including Actionscript, belong in the Flash Forum.
To start off, you need to get out of the "failure" mindset you currently have. Until you think you can do it, and until YOU believe, you wont be able to do anything about it.
1. I useally like to create character without useing sprites. I create them by drawing them grouping all the peaces together and creating a symbol from that.
This isn't a great way to animate, unless you seriously know what you're doing. You should at least try Frame-by-frame, and see what it's like.
2. I do not like sprites.
There's nothing wrong with them, especially if you're using them as a learning experience, or an example.
3. I don't like the FRF type of flash but in every movie I tween.
Movies aren't created overnight. They're long, and tedious pieces of work. I think that's one reason you don't like FBF. You need to learn to stick with it, and be patient.
4. I did not animate the picture of Yoda. I found him on google.
Don't post random crap pictures to threads, unless you drew them. Also, learn the difference between "Drawing," and "Animating," please.
Good luck with your Flash!
Put it this way:
I read a long time ago about a subject similar to this, and it's not going to be possible. In Albert Einstein's view of the universe, the only thing that's a constant (meaning, it never changes), is the speed of light.
The 4 dimensions are Length, Width, Depth, and Time in his universe. Time changes and looks and feels different based on the perspective of the observer, and the speed of light never changes.
Anyway, for example, imagine a little land, we'll call it Flatville. It's completely 2 dimensional, and the only way the creatures in flatville know how to move is up, down, left, and right. They have no concept of "Up", or "Down." Therefore, they can't see in 3D, because they don't understand the concept of down or up. If I was to stick my finger in flatville, the only part people would see would magically appear out of nowhere, and they would only see the slice of my finger that was currently in Flatville.
It's the same concept to us. We have a 3 dimensional brain, and body, therefore, the next dimension is unknown to us, because we are unable to comprehend it. It's just not possible, as far as we know right now, for a 3 Dimensional creature to enter the 4 Dimensional world.
It's a very heated debate topic, and I'd be happy to argue some points, but as far as I'm concerned, nobody's going to enter the 4D world anytime soon.

notice the ^-symbols, they are pointers to objects in managed memory
also notice the namespace "System", and the keyword gcnew (Garbage Collected reference)
So my advice would be to not confuse him with C++ as he should not use C++ native functions unless he knows exactly what he's doing, context switching between native and managed code puts alot of strain on the framework unless you know what you're doing
I'll let the experts further guide him along then. I wont go running my mouth next time. ;)

I may be reading a bit into it here, but I think you two interpreting the term "idiot" differently. You are taking idiot to mean lacking in intellectual ability, such as an individual with a low IQ. I believe TheRyoku, on the other hand, is using the term to mean lazy jerk, similar to how I would use the term.
Yea, you're right there. Sorry about any misunderstandings about what I said. If you need more clarification, let me know. :D
Nah, I was in the wrong too. Friends now?
I hate kids who go on the internet and brag about how smart they are. I mean, really? I don't see how there is any satisfaction out of talking about how you're so much more intelligent then people you know, especially over the internet.
Listen, if you want to start something, you're talking, and complaining about the wrong person. I wasn't bragging at all. I was expressing my dislike of idiots.
On every forum I see people post crap like this and it's just sickening to me, to be honest. Everyone on the internet talks about how smart they are. Arrogant people who talk about things like this give a generation a bad name as well as those people who fail to apply themselves at school :/
Again, I was NOT bragging. I was complaining about those who fail to apply themselves at school. They drive me nuts, and I was giving a useless example.
If you've read my previous posts, I generally don't try to be arrogant at all. I was stating my opinion on the matter of idiots in school, and I was providing a simple example. If you took it as bragging, that's your decision, but it wasn't intended to be so. I think being good in school, and being somewhat intelligent is something to be proud of, but it doesn't mean you should broadcast it.
And your use of the word "mnemonic" is questionable.
My use of the word mnemonic is perfectly correct. The crap they teach me in school are useless rhymes, and tricks to memorizing useless information. My Math teacher is the only one who doesn't teach things this way. She also, coincidentally, my favorite teacher.
My other teachers, however, aren't exactly great, and the way they teach doesn't show that they know the information any better than I do, and a teacher is supposed to teach you things, not read the book to you.
I apologize if I offended you with something I said. I did not intend to sound arrogant, or "Braggy." I hope you understand my post more clearly now, and I never said everyone was an idiot, or that I was above anyone. I consider myself below a lot of people, however, I still think idiots in school are annoying, and a waste of time to not only themselves, but everyone around them.
Thanks for keeping it alive guys. I'm working on tallying some of these votes sometime later today. I wont release results until I'm done though, at the end of December. :D
It's so funny. None of them can do math without a calculator, and I mean basic math. I had to cover a math a class and was showing them a problem on the board, and the actually had to pull out their calculator to solve 10/2. It's insane.
I hate kids like that; the ones who give us younger ones a bad name. I'm only 15, and I try to educate myself on as much as possible, and I hate learning math the way we do, it's useless mnemonic, garbage. I love to see idiots pull out a calculator, and by the time they're done, I'm 4 problems further down my sheet, by doing things in my head.

Sounds like a fantastic idea thus far. I think you've thought it out pretty well too.
Nice idea. I would look forward to something like this.
do i like FPS games? sure here and there but...... do i think they should be the main thing people talk about when it come down to games? no
Well, if you'd like to talk about something else, do that.
Otherwise, of course, I'd think it's almost common sense to think that the most popular genre of gaming gets talked about the most. FPS-es are huge right now, and they earn good money for gaming companies, plus, they're awesome, and easy to pick up.
Plus, it's not up to you to decide what genre of gaming gets talked about the most. It's up to popular decision, and if you got into FPS gaming like some people did, you could understand their perspective.
1.) People wont do everything for you.
2.) Flash Forum
I believe you're in the wrong forum. Why would you go into a Video Game forum that is somewhat up-to-date, and complain about the up-to-date FPS games? The RPG era still isn't dead, and I don't think it ever will be. FPS gaming is fun, frantic, and just all-out awesome. If you don't like FPS games, don't play them. Nobody is forcing you to.
It's true. It's just that it's like downloading music and stuff, nobody really cares if you download their music.
People DO care if someone downloads their music without paying for it, and so does Adobe.
However, pirated software does not leave watermarks. That's just such a bullcrap statement, it's not even funny.
Pirated flash copies leaves watermarks on the flash videos. If someone wants to find flash videos made with a pirated flash copy, they just have to check it.
Where in the world did you come up with this bull statement?
