Response to: Whats C++ Posted January 10th, 2009 in Programming

At 1/10/09 12:00 AM, skintkingle wrote: what did you say?
I'm sure a lot of people who come to this forum looking to start programming heard the name C++ and go looking for it, who are just as young, then they see this thread and think that sounds like a nice introduction. HTML not a good language to start on. At absolute worst, VB or C#. but if they can get in an learn C/C++ then they are on a winning formula, i think you should bring construction to a thread such as this one, not criticism.
If you have nothing helpful to say to new programmers, please don't return here.

This thread should have died, like forever ago. We understand that age means nothing when it comes to qualifications for learning something.

HTML is NOT a programming language. It's markup. When you mentioned C# as a "Worst," I almost cried. C# is a HUGE language right now, especially since NXA for Xbox 360 came around. So many developers got a hold of it, and thus further increased C#'s popularity.

Anyway, our criticism IS our construction. We criticize your questions and your work, to further help you out. I believe our criticism falls in to the category of "Constructive Criticism." People need to learn to LISTEN to criticism, and not criticize the ones critiquing you. The people around here know what they're talking about, and will teach you a lot, if you will be patient, and learn to listen.

I don't know enough to babble on for much longer, though some day, I will, and I will offer advice along with everyone else. Good luck 13-year-olds who pick this stuff up, I was in your shoes not 2 years ago, and I still love it.

Response to: Do you think my parents are strict? Posted January 5th, 2009 in General

Once some people learn to grow up a bit, and understand that yes, grades don't mean everything, but they do help when considering college.

My parents don't accept anything below a 90 from me, and I'm glad they don't. I get good grades mainly for my own good, but I'm not super obsessive over them. By showing that I care, even a little, my parents lighten up on a lot of things for me. They just want to know that you care about your own life a little bit, which, as of my generation [15 -18 years old now], doesn't seem to. I'm ashamed at the behavior of a lot of people my age.

Then again, you have to understand I'm not exactly normal. My parents say I was born an old man, and it's true, I don't do stupid things often, and I generally never get into trouble, unless my curiosity of a subject places me in harm's way, which, as fate has it, often does. :)

Heh. Try acting a little older than your own age, and increase standing with your parents by earning some good grades, which is the least you could do, provided they give you a home to stay in, clothes to wear, and a computer to even be allowed to use. It is a privilege, and not a right.

Good luck with your studies. :P

lol. Yes, originally, the ANDREW kid bumped it, but Vifnis continued it, which is what I was getting at. Plus, he didn't know the difference between morale, and moral.

Thanks for pointing that out though. I don't pay attention enough.

WTF?

This is not funny and what do u mean Morale there is no MORALE to this forum

Just learn HTML

First of all, he said MORAL, not MORALE. They are two different words.

Secondly, thanks for repeating what he said, and bumping a really old topic.

Nothing you say matters one bit to me, mainly because you're stoned.

I don't see what people get out of being stoned, and I never will.
Response to: Drupal vs. Joomla Posted January 2nd, 2009 in Programming

Well the one I've always used... if i can remember the name... oh yeah! It's called 'write your own code'. It's probably the most customizeable option out there.

When there's a common framework available that does everything you would do if you wrote your own code, there's no sense at all in wasting time to rewrite it all.

I love over braggadocious pricks like yourself. I would generally hook up my Wii, and show you exactly how much you suck, but I'm too lazy to bother. When you show us pics, or vids of yourself, we'll have reason to believe you.

Until then, you're another sucky noob boasting his false greatness to an uncaring world.

Jigglypuff is probably one of the worst characters in the game anyway. Snake is probably the best, of broken characters, and I still am biased to Fox or Wolf. I also know plenty of friends who could shove it up yours with Olimar, easily. They still occasionally rape me.

You're probably stoned anyway, so why do I even bother?

If you can "Make an advanced, secure upload system", then you should probably know how to do this.

Google PHP $_GET, and learn how to use it, and you'll know what to do.

Programming Forum Award Winners Posted December 28th, 2008 in Programming

Newgrounds BBS Programming Forum Award Results for 2008

To start off, I would like to thank everyone for voting, or participating in placing the spotlight on some of our fellow programmers here. I really enjoyed this, as shortly as it lasted, and it's always fun to see everyone's opinions of everyone.

Also, my descriptions of the winners may be a bit off, and they might not be entirely accurate, but I think I did the best I could. Congratulations to everyone.

Anyway, enough with the chit-chat, here's the results:

[--RESULTS--]

Best Overall

Jon-86

Jon-86 has kept this forum alive this year, and I'd like to thank him for it. His spirit is contagious, and his accent is even apparent in his typing. "Ah" think he deserves this award, and congratulations.

Most Well-Rounded

[--TIE--]

Afro-Ninja and CitricSquid [And alts...]

Afro-Ninja has always kept his head cool, and is a fantastic moderator for our forum. I believe it's definitely logical that our main forum moderator, aside from others deserves this award. He's down-to-Earth, and he's very knowledgeable in his areas. Congratulations Shawn.

CitricSquid, also known as the man of many alternatives, is also a pretty great guy. He always hangs around, regardless of his account states. We still love him, and his crazy domain-buying schemes. Congratulations.

Most Helpful

Jessii

Miss Jessii is probably one of the nicest members of this forum, who still hangs around. She's never mean to anyone, and always offers great advice, whether it be about life in general, or programming specifics. She's also a queen of HTML and CSS, and I congratulate you ma'am.

Friendliest

DannyIsOnFire

Our crazy little Danny is the most fun around here, with his drinking fun, and his fantastic personality. He's always fun to talk to, and he's generally always in a great mood. Many here could learn from his relaxed and simple example. Congratulations.

Most Improved

DanielZ

The unanimous vote for most improved goes to Mr. DanielZ. Even me, who is still new around here, to be perfectly honest, has watched DanielZ grow a lot this year. His quality of posts increase daily, and he's fun to talk to sometimes in the IRC. Congratulations man.

Rookie of the Year

Relish

I've seen Relish around a lot, and even though he's new, he definitely knows his stuff. He's nice to strike a conversation with, and I hope he continues to do well. Congratulations.

Best All Around

[--TIE--]

DougyTheFreshmaker, dELtaluca, thoughtpolice, Jon-86, Relish, and Jessii

I think this explains that nobody around here is best at anything. We all have our strengths and weaknesses, and congratulations to all the people who tied for this. Share nicely please.

Best Tutorials

SpamBurger

There haven't been a ton of tutorials this year, in fact, I don't even really know of one, but every time the word tutorial gets mentioned for PHP:Main, SpamBurger's name always pops up. Congratulations.

PHP King

DearonElensar

He's stuck up for me several times in arguments, and he really knows his PHP stuff. He's answered many PHP questions, and he always keeps a cool head. Congratulations.

C++ King

[--TIE--]

Cinjection and dELtaluca

Cinjection doesn't really show up much anymore, so I'll mention dELtaluca.

dELtaluca is one of the best C++ programmers I've ever seen. His work on particle effects, and his crazy 3d engines were gorgeous. I know he'll go quite far in life, and I can't wait to see his name as a programmer for someone big one day. Good luck man, and Congratulations.

Javascript King

Elbekko

There haven't been many Javascript threads this year at all, but for the ones that did exist, Elbekko answered them fantastically. He really knows his stuff when it comes to Javascript, and Congratulations.

HTML/CSS King

Smulse

Our light/production engineer of the Programming Forum really knows how to make a web page. His designs are flawless, and he always answers HTML and/or CSS based questions around here. I really hope Smulse goes far with his career, and Congratulations.

Most Missed Regular from the past

Dfox

I wasn't really active when Dfox visited us, but I still do remember him and Pilot-Doofy. I wish they'd pop in occasionally to say hello, and confirm they're not dead. If you're reading this guys, we miss you, and congratulations Dfox.

Congratulations once again to the winners!

Response to: Ng Programming Forum Awards 2008 Posted December 28th, 2008 in Programming

Okay, I have the results ready, if everyone agrees that the voting is complete. I would, however, like to add some of my own votes as well, because I am afraid I had to break a few ties, and some, however, I left intact.

Anyway, my new votes are:
Rookie of the Year:

Relish

Best Tutorials:

Spamburger

PHP King:

DearonElensar

If everyone pretty much agrees that voting is done, then I will make the announcements for winners. I have everything tallied, and ready to go, I just need the permission from everyone!

Okay. When the "Not Scam OMG" website cannot even properly SPELL correctly, in the FIRST SENTENCE on how the system works, I have reason not to trust them.

Secondly, it's not free. Free involves no work on your part. You have to go through so many bull crap offers just to get 1 bloody thing, and you might end up ordering crap anyway!

Last, if you wanted to show this site out of the goodness of your heart, which you are trying to do, you would not have included the referral link. That's just earning you crap for some people's ignorance, and that's not right, or fair to them.

Stop trying to fool people into getting you free cash because you can't succeed at an online game, designed for twelve-year-olds.

Guitar Hero World Tour, Infinite Undiscovery, and The Last Remnant.

Also got 3 Celtic woman CD's, and the new AC/DC Black Ice CD.

Got my own student Bible.

My favorite though, was tickets to a Celtic Woman Concert in Atlanta on the 24th of March.

Clothes too. Also got a second monitor, so I can use 2, or hook my Xbox 360 up to one. I'm looking forward to Hi-def Xbox graphics, which is something I have yet to experience. I got The Last Remnant, and Infinite Undiscovery, just for a few long games to entertain myself.

Yea, I suppose it didn't.

You make a great point, and I can't really supply any means of justification for it. I realized this now, which is a little late to argue my point, but thanks for pointing it out.

I don't really know if it specifically reaffirmed my beliefs in Christianity, but it definitely reaffirmed my beliefs in God. Just forget I said Christianity, I wrote that in like 5 seconds, if you couldn't tell. Thanks for the great point, and I'll take your offer of changing my viewpoint a little.

Sorry for me being retarded about that, it was just something that kept popping up in my mind at the time. Just understand it didn't reaffirm my beliefs in Christianity, it reaffirmed my beliefs in God, and I tied my Christian beliefs to a retarded reason in that post. I wish I didn't suck so much at explaining what I was thinking. D:
