It's not like that at all.
This kind of math is so stupid and simple, anyone should be able to understand it. Wait until you get into the REALLY fun crap like vector calculus, or hydraulics, or even normal calculus. It starts to get fun during that period of time.
Not only that but the knowledge involved. I guess if you are ok with being ignorant about what goes on behind the scenes and called a skiddy on the web then yea there is no problem.
Well the client/gamer wont care about the background will he/she? If you can create the same game in 20 minutes that took another guy 10 days, then who cares, other than maybe programmers, or yourself? I know the gamers don't give a crap how stuff is made; most are just there to play the game.

You can get them anywhere that might sell the books...
Google it perhaps? :P
I prefer a good physical book to an e-book, mainly because I like to be able to take it with me.
According to php.net, you could use
array_push()
to push extra values into an array, but it has the same effect as:
<?php
$array[] = $var;
?>

I wish you guys would honestly stop bickering. It's pointless arguing, and wastes your time, as well as others' time.
Please, both of you, learn to grow up a bit, because you guys are both being idiots. I dunno why when somebody is wrong around here we all have to blow up and start proving we're smarter. This forum is supposed to be full of intelligent people who can all get along and learn from each other without killing each other.
I think we all might need to restart in that area, because I'm starting to do it in real life, and it's not a great attitude to have. I feel the need to correct every little mistake, and let's face it: WE ARE ALL HUMAN, AND WE ALL MAKE ERRORS.
I watched a great sermon by Joel Osteen last night, talking about fighting battles. This sort of garbage arguing is ridiculous, and I would expect these sorts of attitudes in the Politics Forum.
For your own sakes, and for everyone here who tries to ask a question, leave pointless arguing somewhere else. I've realized many newbies are scared to come here for our harsh criticism. This does not mean harsh criticism is a bad thing. I think we should continue with it, for sure. However, I do think the way we're all delivering our criticism is something we should work on, so we don't all end up hating each other's guts.
The technology industry depends on communication, like any other industry. All of this arguing seriously needs to stop.

it's my first time posting in the programming forum. I've been working on my site and I'm not quite sure how to make PHP check the latest post a user does. I'm thinking of a way to check the latest timestamp or check the highest id in the array of all posts done by that user.
a little help please?
You don't need to spoon feed me how to do that, just point me the right direction. I know how to check the database for all the entries posted by the specific user and how to place them in the array. I just want to know how to only make the latest one, or the one with the highest post id, to show up.
Thanks =)
Perhaps something like:
<?php
$query = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM `user_table` WHERE `username_row_name` = 'username_here' ORDER BY `id` DESC LIMIT 1") or die( mysql_error() );
while($fetch = mysql_fetch_array($query) ) {
echo $fetch['post_content'] . '<br />';
}
?>
Because it's for you and you're always going to tweak it and criticize it.
It's okay Smulse, it's not only you who does that. :P
I STILL do it, and I don't mean to half the time. =(

Excuse me mister you have probably not played Halo and are probably biased because you probably suck at it and won't take the time to get some skill at Halo. oh yeah and it won G4s game of the year and best Multiplayer online game
1.) Skill =/= Good Game
2.) GOTY + Multiplayer OG =/= Good Game.
Halo 3 is so stupid these days, it's ridiculous. It's all 12-year-olds, and idiots who could care less about the game. I play it occasionally for fun time with friends, but that's mostly it, because I prefer PC FPS games anyway.
When Halo 3's community somehow turns into a decent community, I'd play more Halo 3. I don't see that day any time in the near future, so I probably wont be playing Halo 3 for a while.

Trial in a sense that you get to try their service before you buy from them. It doesn't mean it has a time limit, in this specific case.

If you're only going to go with a free host, at least go with a decent one.
Awardspace is a lot better, and it's of course, completely free if you need something free, and it's really nice for testing simple websites.
They support anything you might need for a testing website. :P

Be more specific. Do you want to make Audio, or Flash videos?
When you figure it out, ask in the appropriate forum. The Programming Forum is not the questions forum for everything related to a program. :P

I agree. It's a bit repetitive, but I do like it. It's relaxing.
People who also try to advertise, take a word from his book, and make sure it's good, at the very least. You'd probably get more praise for this in the audio forum though. :P

i think i know how to do this,
1. Learn SQL
2. Create a Database
3. Upload files

You don't need a database to give files the ability to be downloaded. Upload the file to your site, and make a link to it, and you're done.
Be careful with what you're going to allow to be downloaded. Some hosts are very picky about the files you host.

We're not making you read any of this.
On a related note, I downloaded the demo today, and played it for a good 3 hours before I made up my mind.
It's a really, really, sucky RTS. The fact that you control it with a controller is absurd. I spent so much time trying to aim to press x on an enemy that I'd lose 2 or 3 units before I scrolled over the like, 3 pixel-wide square you have to click. Sure, it suto-locked when you got over the 5pixel-wide bounding box, but it's still a stupid system.
Also, in campaign, there was no challenge level at all. There was no time limit, and while you were completely overpowering your base, nothing came to attack you, even on heroic. At all. I was expecting some random creeps/mobs to occasionally run over and attack, but nothing happened. I could sit there for literally half an hour, and build this entire base system, and large army, and be completely left alone.
Sure, if you're an achievement nut, then earning gold medals in everything is a little challenging, but not really, because the good way to do it, is to build a tiny army that is seriously powered up, and rush.
I'm a decent RTS player, but there's plenty of people who are better than me out there. I play them for pleasure, and for the strategy that is usually involved. Most of what I don't like with this game has to do with the controls, because, yes, it's a new concept, but they just don't really fit a game like this. There's not a huge diversity of units and materials either, which is no fun. You've got materials, and power plants for UNSC, and "Ages" for the Covenant.
There are still great things about the game though. For one, the cutscenes are pretty great. I do love a good storyline, and this game seems to have a decent one. The only thing I don't like about some of the cutscenes is how the people hold guns. They look so retarded, but besides that, they're fun to watch, and add a nice story element to your objectives.
Again, mainly because of the controller, sub-selecting units is a nightmare. When you want a few warthogs to scout ahead, you have to select each one, and then you want to select your army, but you select the warthogs too by accident, and you sent everything to the same location. When warthogs aren't being ordered along, they follow behind the ground troops, and match their speed, which is so annoying sometimes. Especially if you want to pull some back quickly, to run away, or back off, and they go slow and die because of ground troops.
--Conclusion--
This being said, it's a decent game, I just don't think it fits and utilizes its platform to the utmost extent like it possibly could on the PC. I'm not going to buy it, but if I was, I wouldn't get a super OMG legendary edition.
Some people may like an RTS game on a console with a controller. I, however, don't. =)
--edN--
[TL:DR]
Controllers feel weird for an RTS, and they don't work well. The game is good, but it could be better with a PC setup.
Sorry that was a bit long, but that's my opinion on the demo.

I agree with some posts here, and I'll give my two cents.
I think, that if both participants are above age, say, 16, and the guy has a decent job at that point, and can support the consequences of having a child, or in a worst case, more than one child, then I see no reason as to why it would be bad.
This is also a huge reason behind everything. Most guys who look for sexual relations before age 20+ generally don't have a job, and don't care, they're just looking for a good time. If that's the case, then yea, it could be bad.
I just think that if you're MATURE enough to handle it, then it's nobody else's business what you do with your life. But, like I said, I'd estimate that 70% of guys, or girls aged anywhere from 15-19 aren't necessarily ready for bad consequences, seeing as the guy probably doesn't have a job, and probably doesn't want to support a family.

Silly, yes isn't a value, you need to set it to true.
$show the octupus on my page = true;
Obviously.
There is something that premade kits can not offer, and that is knowledge.
No offense, but ANYTHING can offer knowledge. Knowing anything about making a game is more helpful than knowing nothing. :)

How many times must people be told this anyway? You CANNOT delete system32 while your computer is using any of the files, or basically, while windows is running.
Also, to re-install XP, you can boot from your XP disc, and go that route if you want.
When your computer starts up, find what button to press to go into BOOT MENU, and press that button, then boot from the CD in the drive, and follow instructions from there.
And it not retarded it was practice since im just learning the language, and i happend to be reading about Varibles and Data Types like int, char, bytes and stuff like that
I put the
cin.get();
in my version so it shouldn't close instantly on you. Anyway, yes, your program is retarded, especially for a testing program. You could have declared all those variables on one line, etc. I'm definitely no C++ expert, and I never claim to be either, so if somebody corrects me, then please pay more attention to them instead of me.
First of all, don't write a completely retarded program just to see if you can get it to run.
Something simple, like printing "Hello" would work fine.
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
int main()
{
cout << "Hello, world!" << endl;
cin.get();
return (0);
}
If that still doesn't work, then you've done something stupid while installing, or setting up the compiler. I know that's not necessarily the best way to write that, but for a tiny example script, I think it should run fine.
