By NICK GIONGCOJuly 8, 2009, 5:41pm Before flying to Los Angeles for a one-day photo shoot with Kobe Bryant for a leading sports apparel company, Manny Pacquiao revealed that he will bat for a catch weight of 142-143 lbs for the proposed November 14 match with welterweight champion Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico.
While admitting that negotiations are running smoothly, Pacquiao said the two parties have yet to agree on the revenue split and the catch weight although the Puerto Rican press has reported that it'll be at 145 lbs.
Cotto currently fights in a weight class that has a limit of 147 lbs, while Pacquiao says he can only add a few pounds north of the super-lightweight limit of 140 lbs.
Against Oscar De La Hoya last December when the limit was 147 lbs, Pacquiao tipped in at 142, and in his last fight against Ricky Hatton at 140, the Filipino scaled in at 138.
"(The fight is) eighty percent (done)," said Pacquiao on Tuesday night as he prepared to board a Philippine Airlines jet.
Cotto once said he can not go lower than 145 lbs but some fine-tuning in the contract might compel the shaven-skulled banger to give in to Pacquiao's call considering that Pacquiao is the main attraction.
While in the US, where he will shoot a Nike ad with Kobe, Pacquiao might take a peek into some documents containing pertinent details about the proposed Cotto fight.
It could take a few more days or even a couple of weeks before a deal is made between Pacquiao and Cotto since Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum, who heads Top Rank, is still enjoying his European vacation.
Still, everything appears to be in place with Arum already lining up a five-city promotional tour just before Pacquiao reports for training camp at the Wild Card Boxing Club in mid-September.
Arum said plans are afoot for visits to San Juan in Puerto Rico, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and even Mexico City "where the people there love Manny and Cotto," according to Arum.
If Pacquiao wants to fight Cotto, then stop trying to get him weight drained. As most of you all know, I'm a fan of both fighters since if you chick my previous posts about boxing I picked Pacquiao to beat Hatton. If Pacquiaos camp feels Cotto is too big for Manny, then go fight a 140 pounder then.
What kind of horse crap is that shit? I know this is old news, but did anyone see how slow the ref counted douglas when he was on the canvas? Tyson should have a tko win over douglas. That is some bullshit, I bet that ref had money against Tyson. What a bullshit fight, that wasn't mike Tysons first loss. His first loss is to Holyfield, that buster douglas fight is total bullshit.
This is a bit old, and I know you guys are constantly posting recent news. Meaning this is only a week old or so but here it is just in-case you missed another topic that may have been talking about it. Besides, its not like we can't make duplicate topics anyways. This is a forum those will happen. I did a newgrounds search for 72 year old and didn't come up with this topic, but even if its already here its alright. Belgian teen says she requested 3 stars on face - but woke up to find 56
BRUSSELS - A Belgian teenager has told police how she emerged from a tattoo parlor with 56 stars over one side of her face, rather than the three she had asked for, prosecutors said on Tuesday.
"I said this part, the top, is ok, but not the rest," Kimberley Vlaeminck from the city of Kortrijk, 56 miles northwest of Brussels, told Belgian broadcaster VRT.
The 18-year-old said she fell asleep during the procedure, and woke up in pain when her nose was being tattooed.
A spokesman for Kortrijk prosecutors' office said police were investigating after a complaint from the teenager.
The tattoo artist said Vlaeminck had agreed to 56 stars.
"She agreed, but when her father saw it, the trouble started," Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws quoted the man as saying.
Vlaeminck said she wanted to keep the tattoos on her forehead but would have the rest removed.
Floyd Mayweather Jr cherry-picking opponents again, he has been fighting at welter-weight 4 of his last 5 fights. The one fight he didn't fight in his last 5 fights was Oscar at 154!!! Juan Manuel Marquez might be ranked p4p number 2 but he is a lightweight whos best fighting weight has been in the lower weight classes like 135. 130 and has never ever fought at high as 140. And Mayweather jrs bitch move to come out of retirement to fight him at 144-147 weight class(no one even really knows if its a catchweight at 144 or not it could be at 147).
Mayweather Jr cries to the public all the time saying he gets know credit yet he is also the one calling the fighters he fights midgets like Hatton and now Marquez. Mayweather Jr can be found quoted calling Marquez a great little man, and Mayweather calling himself a great big man and that is what the difference will be in the fight said Floyd Mayweather Jr the punk ass bitch who ducked Cotto, Mosley, and Clottey. You know the top wws in Mayweather Jrs own weight class!
