Mainstream doesn't necessarily mean shit.

DB and COF is just trendie "LOL SYMPHONIC LOL GOTHIC DEATH METALZ"

Dimmu Borgir has nothing to do with gothic metal in my opinion. Yeah it's Symphonic Black Metal, early Dimmu Borgir is really good in my opinion, I still like some of their latest stuff, but that's me.

Cradle of Filth I think they can be labeled gothic metal or something. The only albums I really like are The Principle of Evil Made Flesh and Midian.

Lamb OF God is basically borderline metalcore, people just call them groove metal to feel better than themselves.

That's one opinion, but core or no I like them.

Pantera's 80's stuff along with cowboys from hell is great, but vulgar display onwards is shit.

Meh, I like Vulgar Display of Power and Cowboys From Hell.

Machine Head's first two albums are kickass and their latest album is pretty good too, just avoid everything in between.

I like the first album. The second one I like it but not as the first one, and I really like the last one and some track on Through the Ashes of Empires.

metallica's first four albums are awesome.

I like the first 5 and Death Magnetic. Load and Reload are not thrash but trash, there are only some tracks I enjoy as an Hard Rock fan too. St. Anger is fucking painfull, Frantic is ridiculous, but I like the titletrack and The Unnamed Feeling anyway. Also, St. Anger was the first album from Metallica that I've ever listened to, I took it from my brothers CD's and I loved it, but when I got into more Metallica stuff, a lot of time later, I realised the shit I was listening to. My brother loves it, he says the drums are unique because of that trash can effect, well he has the right to like it.

Dude! We don't hate on mainstream bands. It just happens to annoy us more when popular bands suck. When an underground band sucks, it just fades away, because they don't have a big fanbase whatsoever and their music will be lost in the abyss of bad music forever. But all the bands you've listed, especially the 4 first. Look at their discographies...

Metallica - 9 LP
Pantera - 9 LP
CoF - 10 LP
Dimmu Borgir - 9 LP

For me, between those bands, Metallica is the only mainstream band. Maybe you'll see CoF, Pantera or Dimmu Borgir in your MTV but in Portuguese MTV, I'm very lucky to watch them talking about Metallica.

And the two last bands you listed... Lamb Of God, they are trying too hard to be heavy, rad and brutal, plus they are a Groove Metal band, which means it's crap. And Job For A Cowboy, no matter if they are a Death Metal band or not, are still generic as fuck.

I'm not a big fan of JFAC, but in my opinion they're pretty listenable. And Lamb Of God, well it's a question of taste, I like them mostly because of the drumming, and the tasty groovy riffs that make me want to do the "windmill" with my hair. And I can see why you hate them, they're all like "Motherfucking fucking fuck fucks fuckers", but that don't really bother me. I had and will have a lot of great times listening to them, Ashes of The Wake is so goddamn tasty.

There's always the metalcore club.

The only metalcore band I mentioned was Job for a Cowboy and now they're a Death Metal band.

Most "metalheads" either only like the mainstream bands(I use mainstream loosely, even bands like Edguy are mainstream) OR limit themselves to only a certain genre or two and don't look beyond that.
You seem to believe that your own tastes represent the ideal of good metal music.

This! Damn dude, taste in music is subjective, quality may not, but taste is.

A thing you should know, is that everybody in the Metal Hell enjoys some of the mainstream metal and some of the underground metal.

Yeah, as if only listening to underground stuff makes you more trve and kvlt and as if being trve and kvlt was important. Who cares if you're trve and kvlt, there's nothing more important than having pleasure with what you're listening too, whether it's mainstream or underground.

And I know that we all have our own "favorite bands we like to hate". I don't like Slayer,

Lol, I also can't stand Slayer, not saying they don't have some good songs, but for me it all sounds like "shred kerry king shred faster". It lacks of feeling for me.

I still enjoy my CoB stuff every once in a while, and I know that my metal tastes are not limited to a few bands or a few metal genres.

Yeah the problem is the extreme generalization of the fans and putting everyone in the same bag, I love COB, but I listen to almost everything in Metal, if not everything. I may not like a band but I don't really hate any band, and I can't see no point in hating a band, and building an argument expressing my hate against a band, it's useless, a total waste of time, time you could use listening to a band you like. And just because someone is obsessed with a band, that doesn't mean they may not like any other band and be totally closed-minded, in my case I'm obsessed with Insomnium. And I can give you an example of a guy I know, the dude is totally obsessed with COB, he even asked Alexi to accept him as a son on facebook (well that was a little bit silly lol), but he and his band, Scarscythe, played a cover in one concert, and it was not COB, it was Hypocrisy.

Weird, COB's third album has the highest score on MA and their fourth album scores higher than their second.
Have you ever been to a COB concert before?

Their fans are MORE obsessive than pantera fans or Bring Me The Horizon fans.

Seriously.

That's just the most typical argument almost everyone use to hate on a band. "OH THERE FANS R SUCH DIXSUCKERS DIXHEADS OLOLOLZ!". If you hate COB so much, why the fuck would you ever be concerned in making such hateful arguments about them? It's just useless, or are you just trying to stimulate their fans rage? Also, why the fuck would you even go to a COB concert, well, atleast, I am assuming you did, since you know so much about their fans obsession. And also, what the fuck do their fans obsession have to do with the music? If you don't like it, and you find it to be garbage, well it's your opinion, if you hate the band attitude, like they're always drunk and stuff like that, you're in your right, but it's just useless to be constantly pointing that.

Seriously, shut up.

Church of Misery, Reverend Bizarre.

Never heard about Church of Misery, but I will check it later.

I've here Reverend Bizarre's Harbinger of Metal, II: Crush the Insects, III: So Long Suckers and In the Rectory of the Bizarre Reverend. For what I've seen in Metal Archives, it's every full-lenght album they have and an EP. They might be the first band I will check because they're Finnish.

You should check out Bongripper's most recent album, Satan Worshipping Doom. It's not much of a Stoner record, but it's my favorite Doom Metal album, along with Dopethrone.
Then comes Sleep (American Stoner Doom Metal band). Pick up Sleep's Holy Mountain and Dopesmoker. But Dopesmoker is a 1 hour track, that makes up the full lenght of the album.

For Stoner Sludge, I suggest you listen to the album Amerijuanican by Bongzilla. The self-titled track is my favorite.

The band Dystopia (USA) makes some great Sludge/Crust. I don't know if that fits what you're looking for. But they make heavy and dirty music. Pick up the self-titled.

That's pretty much all I can contribute. I'll throw Mastodon and ISIS in. You might like these two, even though they don't really fit in the two genres you asked recommandations for.

I've already listened to Electric Wizard before, but I've only listened Witchcult Today, my brother also has Dopethrone here, I might check it later for sure.

Satan Worshipping Doom is an hell of an album, I love it, it's on the list of my favourite album, it's dirty, heavy, psychedelic, brutal... just wonderful.

I've already listened to Dopesmoker, my brother has listened that track multiple times, I really like how the music evolves and how the drums enter at the third minute approximately. I find the song a little bit tiring anyway, I need to check it again, and check Holy Mountain.

For Bongzilla, so far I've only listened Bongzilla's Gateway, and it's dirty, really dirty and powerful, really liked it. I might check Americanjuanican later anyway.

I've heard Nev talking about Dystopia before, so I searched about them, listened a track or two and I've enjoyed it, but I wasn't in the mood to listen to Dystopia, I might check them again later.

Mastodon! I love them, Blood Mountain, Crack the Skye and Leviathan are my favourite albums, and they're one of my favourite bands.

I have here some of my brother's Isis albums, I've already listened a few songs and I really need to check them again.

Thank you for the recommendations.

Death metal with rock n' roll influences. I almost sure it's not a real subgenre, but it's like viking metal, it's folk, but I may ask for a viking themed band...
I really thought Viking Metal was not a real genre, but now, I'm kind of unsure. If you look up Viking Metal on the Map of Metal, the guy wrote this about Viking Metal:

He didn't wrote that, it's in wikipedia.

But Death 'n' Roll, while I didn't look it up closely, is probably a kind of mix between Melodeath and Rock 'n' Roll. I really doubt you can actually mix straight down Death Metal with Rock 'n' Roll...

I don't know if you heard the Death N' Roll tracks on Map of Metal, but that shit ain't melo at all to me.

I agree, a lot of subgenres that are theme based are kind of retarded, I think I've only stuck with Viking Metal because of Amon Amarth. And I only listen to a few Alestorm songs.

"We play death metal. We write about vikings so, therefore, some refer us to viking metal, but I have no idea what that is. I can't imagine the vikings veer into metal at all except on the swords and stuff. And musically, I guess they only played these strange lip instruments and some bongos or whatever. "
