I admit I don't dislike Slipknot's earlier stuff, and some Marilyn Manson songs though. Guilty pleasure, but not as pleasureful as it was when I was younger.

Yeah its the same between me and her. And shes seriously the nicest person I have ever talked to too. And I've talked to Asandir (seriously shes so nice that she makes Asandir look like some kind of evil monster that is out to kill everyone)!

That's great, I feel the same way about my girlfriend, and I imagine that another girl with similar taste would be much more arrogant.

I don't really feel like explaining the distance. But I'll just make a point to say that there is no way I could walk to where she lives. Though she did say that when/if she moves here shes okay with me giving her a big bear hug xD
she also said that shes okay with staying overnight with me and cuddling and shit if we aren't going out at the time o.O

That's serious man!

also the reason I say "ex" is because it was long distance. but me and her still talk on an almost daily basis and are REALLY close friends. shes also thinking about moving closeish to me for college stuff at some point in the near future and there is a possibility we might go out again when that happens.

Aw man, I guess it's not that easy to find a girl who listens to heavy music apart from Slipknot, Avenged Sevenfold, Limp bizkit and that kind of stuff "heavy" music. I'm lucky my girlfriend is devoted to good music too, and super open-minded, damn she even knows more bands than I do and I often find myself lost between the stuff I know. But it's funny that we have so much in common in our music taste, it's almost ridiculous, like a perfect harmony. Nevertheless, we have the same problem you have with your "ex", distance. I don't know the distance between you and that girl, in my case it's about 350 km, however we manage to meet whenever we can, and it evolved into something really serious, so... yeah, distance is just a nuisance here, it really hurts, but we will find our way through it. If you really like that girl, I hope you both are able to find that way aswell.

And that album was amazing! I need to get more stuff by QOTSA and also Eagles Of Death Metal. But I never seem to be able to find anything by them....it was sheer luck that I found Songs For The Deaf and Era Vulgaris.

I'm lucky my brother is a die-hard QOTSA fan, and he has Songs For the Deaf, Lullabies to Paralyze and Era Vulgaris all on CD.

I watched that like 5 times after I saw it was a thing.
I'm seriously looking forward to this album now. I mean I don't listen to QOTSA as much as other post-Kyuss stuff like Hermano, Unida, Slo Burn, or even Mondo Generator. But they're still a great band. Was fucking ticked off when tickets to Lollapalooza sold out in like the first day because they're headlining one of the nights. Also Baroness and Ghost are playing there too!

And knowing that Dave Grohl is back on QOTSA's drums and Trent Reznor is contributing to the album... Fuck yeah, I expect something massive.

The reason I ask is because they're considered really influential when it comes to metal but people tend to label them as Hard Rock.

On a scale from 1-10, they're a reasonable 5 in Stoner/Doom/Psychedelic Metal bands. Because when I actually listen to them it's like they're proto-stoner metal bands instead of actual proto heavy metal, I've been always saying this, except maybe for Led Zeppelin, they're not as stoner as Blue Cheers for example I think.

The trick is simple, pretend you're sighing and then just sing or talk with the sigh effect... I don't how to explain better than this actually xD It helped me to catch the trick quite easily though.

I play guitar, sing, well I mostly growl, from low/deep growling to high/shrieked growling black metal-esque, I think I have a nice range actually, I can do almost anything when it comes to growl, I also know how to grunt/pig squeal although I don't use it, I've been teaching myself to shout, but I still need a lot of practice when it comes do singing in a clean tone. I also know how to play bass, even though I don't usually play because I don't have one, I basicly transfer my guitar knowledge to a bass guitar. I suck at drumming, I'd love to learn how to drum well though. And I'd totally love to learn how to play sitar, oud, portuguese guitar and rabad.

The place I used to take guitar lessons from had a room for drum lessons. Me and my sister both took lessons there and while she was doing her bass lessons they let me wander around and go in the other rooms. And that entire time the only thing I can play on drums is the intro to D'yer Mak'er by Led Zeppelin xD

That's awesome, I wish I could play the drums, it's useful, and I have some problems with rhythm, maybe playing drums would grow a natural metronome inside of me.

I will check it anyway!
Enjoy the ear rape :D

I'm not going to lie, I was unable to listen to it entirely, it's necessary the appropriate mood to listen to that type of music and I just don't feel like standing here one hour only listening to that, I'm sorry, still, I've listened to it for about 15 minutes and I checked some further parts and I admire your patience to record such thing, and I give you respect, it's actually good drone, it doesn't have a well defined structure nor a good consistence, but I think it's a nice droney jam, for one of those lazy days, when you just want to listen to something loud and noisy (not as a bad thing), at least that's how I feel when I want to get some Sunn O))) on my ears or something like that. I can't understand why you say the quality sucks, it's the essence of drone man! It made me think about Naenocyborg Ãoeberholocaust, but with more diversity in notes.

I think the only stuff I can sing and it sounds mildly okay is stuff by Cake and some later stuff by Kyuss and Unida.
I used to be able to dead on sing stuff for Nirvana but I kinda....wrecked my voice doing that so I can't do that as much anymore xD at the moment I'm trying to sing stuff by Red Fang like Hank Is Dead or Good To Die.
Finding Red Fang was the best thing that ever happened to me musically xD
I started listening to them before Murder The Mountains came out so "before they got "big"" so I can be all "hipster" when it comes to Red Fang. Hell I racked up like 1,500 listens of JUST their music over the course of like 3 days on last.fm.
Also Red Fang said that they're starting to record demos for songs for their next album. Same with Acid King. Both of which are fucking awesome news.

Nirvana is very fucked up to sing, it's not like Kurt Cobain was a great singer or something, but he just screamed so hard it's insane, I can't understand how he could keep on playing concerts, without having is throat all fucked up.
Well, when it comes to singing, I mostly growl, not only because I like it, but also because I feel more comfortable with it and I kind of mastered the technique now, at least as much as I want to, and I feel no pain doing it these, also it's almost impossible to get out of tune. However I've recently been trying to shout, and I fear it may fuck up my voice because I can't find the key to do it correctly yet, but it just sounds so good, I think I'm slowly reaching what I want, but I don't want to lose my sweet voice haha

Okay. I just feel I should warn you though. The quality is kinda....crap. I don't have any actual recording equipment so I either record using my webcam mic or using this little adapter jack thing that gets plugged into the mic....thing on my computer. I'll send you the link for the better of the two hour long songs. The first one is shittier because I failed at using a wah pedal in it xD

I will check it anyway!

Well my influences range from Stoner Rock, Doom Metal, Drone, and other random crap like Grunge.

I smell some Melvins influence then haha

I suck at writing lyrics ._. seriously the only song I've written lyrics for was a song about some dude killing children in the woods xD

Haha, I'm actually better at writing in portuguese because it's my mother language, but I really want to write in english, so that the message can be spread worldwide, and I think that english sounds better overall. Well, as the years pass I'm getting more comfortable with english and I can actually write better stuff now.

I can't sing period so I tend to avoid doing so xD though my singing CAN NOT be worse than the singing of the person who was in a band I used to be in. I'll put it this way. Her singing is why we arn't a band anymore.

I thought I couldn't sing either when I first tried, but now I'm feeling more confident about my voice, and practice as helped me to do what I really want, and that is singing and playing guitar at the same time, although sometimes it's not easy to conciliate both in practice.

it just sits there unlisted on YouTube and no one listens to it anyways....
I've been trying to get some form of a band together for a bit now....though at the moment I kinda want to do a one man band type of thing. But since I don't have drums at the moment I can't do much. I mean I have 6 guitars and my sister has 4 basses that I can use not to mention she has a few bass amps that would be interesting to use. She has two Ampegs. One is a V4B head on an SVT cab from the late 60's - early 70's. The other is just a SVT cab she bought for like $400 that she puts the head off of her other amp on. I just have a small 15 watt practice amp and a late 70's Gibson amp.

Damn dude, you got yourself some gear... Give that stuff some use and learn how to programme drums or something. Well I'm telling you to do that, but if I knew how to do that, some of my stuff would roll faster, and still I just don't have any interest in learning how to do such thing... Also, I've just noticed my drummer posted another song on youtube if you want to check out, this one is more doomey and psychedelic, here you go: Siberian Fire - Mantra

Also, send me your Youtube stuff, I've an youtube channel too, and I know how it feels like to have no one listening to your stuff.

Well, and since you're talking about one-man bands, I also have another project that I kind of promote in my newground's sig, it's called A Lifetime Dying, and it's what I really really really love to do, I will only say it's a Post-Metal project, because my influences range from Melodic Death, to Doom, to Sludge, to Groove Metal and it all mixed just kind of sounds like Post-Metal to me...

It's a one-man project in the way that I do everything except the drums since I never got to play them, but I'm trying to make it a band where it just happens that I'm the main composer and the mind of the thing, from writing lyrics, to sing them, to compose the melodies and rhythms, etc. Luckily I've been supported by a friend of mine who plays drums(the same guy who plays the drums in Siberian Fire), and listens to my guitar recordings, demos and w.i.p's and he composes drums for me, well I end up recording the guitars at his home because I'm unable to get good audio quality at my home with my poor gear.

Also, another friend of mine who plays bass departed from his previous band because the guitarist emigrated and I convinced him to play with us, but now we're too occupied with Siberian Fire, and he's playing with us in Siberian Fire aswell, yeah kinda, confusing, it's like the Norwegian Black Metal scene, where you have dozens of bands with the same members but differente names. It saddens me that we never practiced A Lifetime Dying songs anymore, but I'm always composing new stuff, so the idea will never die.

If you're interested you can check one of my songs from the project A Lifetime Dying: Ionization My voice wasn't that mature back when I recorded it haha.

http://www.youtube.com/user/sirjuandiablo Here's my youtube channel in case you want to check it out, I post covers, original ideas, jams, only guitar stuff.

Well....I already know about Stonerkbab so....yeah....
Also Bongripper is from Chicago and thats not horribly far away from me.

Oh and if you haven't done so yet you need to check out Conan and Belzebong.

Never heard of any of those before, I loved Conan, kinda droney, it sounded a bit like Eagle Twin to me, very good. As for Belzebong, a new band for my list of bands that make puns with the word 'bong' or have 'bong' in their name, very nice too, it sounds like Bongripper but less aggressive and less evil.

Also, for any of you who might like some simple stoner rock, I want to promote a project I'm working on with my bandmates called Siberian Fire if you want to check it out:

Siberian Fire - Hatred

I play guitar and I do the vocals, I would really appreciate some feedback, it's not very technical nor complex, it's supposed to be an in your face stoner/sludgey rock thing. Hope you like it!

Response to: Distortion everywhere! Posted April 27th, 2013 in Audio

I'm having a problem with distortion. I like the type of distortion that makes my guitar sound heavy, since I mostly play metal, but at the same time makes my notes/riffs/phrases sound "clean" and perceptible, even melodic, I've got myself a v-amp from behringer, not a great piece since my budget is not that great aswell, (actually I'm still paying for it) however I managed to get something close to the type of sound I pretend, and it's all good when I'm playing by myself or practicing with my band, but when it comes to recording it's kind of hard to get that bright sound you know? The only solution I found with my drummer was to record the rhythm guitar with the crunch from a Marshall amp he has, and use the sound I really like from my v-amp just for the leads and the solos, and it is not that bad, but I don't feel that blast I'm looking for. What can I do?
