BTW, are we all getting co author?
I'll pick ten as Co-Authors, I think ten is the maximum, if I can do more I will. I mentioned it in an earlier post, I think I said something about it being based on the quality of their parts, the number of parts submitted and how much of a contribution has been made by them to our forum.
I've been putting what I've received up to today and thought you guys might want a look-see, and you know, I think this is going to be huge!
I've included finished fla's from;
TehLeetStick
BornToByte
steelsoldier
Lard-Lad
flashnooberson
these guys are definately in, and in the scene selection screen I've added each username and two buttons for each user. One plays just their parts in the collab, and another that links direct to their newgrounds userpage. I looks pretty schmick!
check it out... http://www.swfup.com/file/99911... I've only just chucked the movie part together because theirs no point getting carried away until I get all the parts and can see how they'll best fit together, what I'm really looking for feedback on is the credits/scene selection bit!
Now back to business,
TheTriangle, this is looking great but unfinished, the background is cool but all the head animation happens too quickly. I want BLOOD! I want GUTS! If you can find time to double the number of frames in the explosion and maybe loop the wobble so that it lasts longer, you sir, are in!
LordSniffAlot145, the deadline's not for ages, you can wait until you get the tablet, drawing with a mouse is like drawing with a slab of meat... now I'm hungry.
MINIH3NN, I'm not sure if I can use your parts... Maybe I could add them as extras or secrets or something.
One other thing. I know it's great to peel the skin off and blow up the heads and stuff, but is there anyone out there up to doing something sensitive with facial expressions or dialogue. Anyone love-sick? And are there any ladies out there wanting to do something? Perhaps a little rotoscoping... I'll have a crack at it, but everytime I draw a character I have trouble stopping myself from killing them! XD

I aint good at making the smily worried i have some problems in that area, maybe i could send you the fla and you would help me?
http://www.swfup.com/file/99679#view
perhaps at slow motion it gives an extra feeling, what if i make a crosshair moving towards the character like it was about to get shot or something?
That's heaps better, and yeah, I think the crosshair would work well. Rather than make him look worried you could just make his eyes bigger over a few frames just before he gets shot. It's adds a little antipation for the audience that something's about to happen. Then it'll be perfecto!

This looks rather simple but its the first time i do something like this, but i imagined that after the explosion the flash could start with music or something
javascript:MakeSmileySelection(5);
Questioning
Althought this aint much please tell me how to improve this
steelsoldier! That scared the shit out of me! One thing though, maybe you could let the face form a little more, then look worried, then explode. We can definately use it, possibly repeatedly, to mark out different sections in the collab. That is if there are any sections... I'm thinking of having something along the lines of titles for scenes with different face related jokes coming up of the screen, then your bomb head comes up and blows it all away, leading into everyone's animations... just thinking out loud (in typed words, I'm not actually sitting here speaking as I type this... or am I).

Vincoid! Welcome aboard! Black and white 6 left a bad taste in my mouth too, and I agree with both you and Evion. An award is great, but you shouldn't be specifically aiming for it, "If you build it, they will come" that's my policy. Kevin Costner's a damned genious! The bunny's looking great!

There there son, it worked just fine and I'm a big fan of it, email the fla on through to me if you're happy that it's finished, bananapeel@primus.com.au
Anyhooo.. I've done another piece for the collab, but be warned, you may have nightmares... LINKITY LINK
The lipsync is out because swfup is shit (it's not running at 24fps). It'll be fine in the collab when submitted to newgrounds... trust me.

Yeah, and it's what I do too, but when it doesn't work it's best to leave it rather than keep hitting your head against a brick wall, and come back with a fresh idea. You're new version of the second part is now officially pure gold! Eat your heart out weasel!
blindsniper, what was that? I can't put that in...
Dizease, I can't use that. I don't have a problem with shape tweens but this just isn't working...
I think what you've both done is just draw directly in the program without a real idea. What I want you to do is go for a walk, enjoy the day, do some drawing, whatever it is you do on NewYearsEve and all the while think in the back of your minds about what would be a clever or funny or strange or awesome idea to do with a face. Get that idea happening, then come back to your computer and you'll find it that much easier.

Don't get me wrong, I'm loving it, but I'd like to see the weasel animated waving it's arms around or something, at the moment it's too obvious that you're moving a still graphic around the screen. If the weasel you've drawn is a movie clip, then you could add a looping animation inside that clip and it'll apply wherever you've used the graphic in your movie. That's officially my worst explanation ever, but I hope it makes a little sense... maybe.
Lard-lad, that's some great peanut action, the explosion is fantastic! And thanks for letting me know about the extension, I usually just move each persons library items to a folder with their name, but it's good to have another option.
BornToByte, I've got the parts and they work, no problems.
criticalhammer1, I thought a scene selection would be good, just to play the parts by each user, then come back to the menu.
Evion, Part two is awesome, I giggled like a little old lady, but part one seems to need something to happen at the end to bring it to a close. Weasel, squirrel, ferret, whatever he is his brains are out and he wants to eat our flesh!
ZombieswithJetpacks, I can't get to your 2nd swf file, can you post a link in here.
TheTriangle, I've said it before and I'll say it again, you are in the collab so long as you produce something good.
JiminySha, its looking good, but what's gonna happen?
liamisdabest, this is not the best... I like the face within face bit, and I think that sort of thing will work well. Make the face better and smooth things out then upload it again.
I've done a loader and menu, here's the link!! let me know what you think.
I'll put together a CREDITS page with your usernames and a link straight to your scene/s in the collab and your userpage on newgrounds. If anyone wants the web link to go somewhere else they can tell me... but it's early days yet.

You are!
How embarassingment! I've discovered a problem with the two fla's I've just recieved, I don't have the fonts they've used for their names. This is probably going to keep happening, so what I need you guys to do if you're using a weird font is one of two things;
either
a) you can email the font file to me with your fla file
or
b) open the fla file, select the text and go to Modify/Breakapart (control+B for PC and apple+B for Mac) twice to change the text from a font into general shapes, then send your fla to me.
ether way is good,
let me know if this makes no sense!
At 12/29/07 05:49 PM, wiidude wrote: well i thought the sprites would be a nice touch since i drew most of em.
Sorry tiger, the explosions not all that bad, and I don't have a huge problem with sprites but it just doesn't work together. Like I said, I'm happy with the concept, it just needs to look better... work on it, I'm sure you can can see ways in which you can improve it.
Alright!... I'm in Australia, so I'm doing the sleepy times while you guys roam the earth... So many questions... So many movies!
Gatling, I loved the background behind the skull, it fits perfectly. Enjoy your holiday.
Lard-lad, that's a fine peanut guy, the red screen is a nice touch, but I think the explosion could look a lot better. As with BornToByte's one, it's good enough but could be the bee's knees. What if the spots that appear on his face were brown and he becomes a peanut, then explodes with splinters everywhere. Or stick with what you've done with include the skull or brain or something left behind. These are just suggestions, you do what you feel say.
wiidude, thats a decent enough idea, and I see potential in the side on head, but the way it moves is not good enough. Keep the head, and even have it eat the mushroom and explode, but animate it, don't just slice up the drawing you've already done and pull in a sprite explosion.
Evion, that second part is pure insanity, you're really working hard on this!
BornToByte, perfecto! Send them on through!!
I'll sit down today and have a tinker with some menu screens, faces and shit... well maybe not shit.
THIS IS GOING SO WELL!! I'M SO EXITED I THINK I'M GONNA PEEL THE SKIN OFF MY OWN FACE!!! maybe I'll film it and put it in the collab
At 12/29/07 07:33 AM, Evion wrote: Question:
Sorry if you've already said this but I didnt see it when reading the first page.
Do we send each part in a movie clip?
I can handle whatever you throw at me so long as it's an fla. One thing that'd help me is that if you are using movieclips give them really individual names so that they done conflict with each other when I'm compiling it, but that's still not a very big deal.
Double POST HURRAH!!
LardLad, that's a turn-up for the books, ha ha... It's great but, like you thought, the pauses are too long, shorten them to at least half as long, I'd be tempted to keep it to 4 or 5 frames per pause, then send me the fla and the world's your oyster!
TehLeetStick, that's a fine effort. If you're completely happy with it send the fla on through.
BornToByte, your first part is gold, and I really like the second part, but I think it could be improved. If you make the transition between the head and the skull turn pink and fleshy so that it looks more like the layers of skin are stripping back, and double the number of frames and inbetween the transition, it just whips by too quick to really take in the quality of what you've done, you'll have something really jaw dropping.
At 12/29/07 03:16 AM, TehLeetStick wrote: Question: Will we all be credited, other then the name on the frames.
I can only make ten coauthors, the judgment of which will be based on how many pieces you've made, the quality of them and how much you've provided in this forum to support everyone involved in the collab etc (blahblahblah).
But I'll have a credits like page with each animators name and a button link to their profile. I don't think we need any longwinded blurbs about each creator, you know the whole favourite colour, age and stuff... no one reads it or cares, they just wanna watch the toons.
At 12/28/07 09:57 PM, Gatling wrote: What can I do with the nose and the lips? And are there any suggestions for the background? I hate the color and I maybe want to add a simple loop (nothing to fancy, just something spinning or something like that) to it, so help me out there.
This is looking great! One way to work when you can't figure out how to animate the next part is to move further ahead, you could go forward a few frames and draw the completed face, then come back and draw "inbetweens" to get the transitions between each pose using the onion skin. As far getting the background to work it sounds like you want to make a spinning colorwheel sort of thing... Create a new layer underneath for the background and draw a huge circle with colours spiralling out of the middle of it, then turn that into a movieclip, then motion tween it so that it rotates on the spot. I've done a similar thing before, if you go to this link, and roll over the bottom part of the movie, you'll see an example of what I'm suggesting. http://www.swfup.com/file/96869
At 12/28/07 09:43 PM, ZombieswithJetpacks wrote: Heres a pic of my finished one. Can we do more than one?
You can do as many as you like! Just make them the gooderest possible! I'll be making lots of little ones to slap in there, and possibly bringing in morphs and swipes to bridge the gaps between each piece. The more the merrier!
At 12/28/07 08:57 PM, LenardNotLenny wrote: That fucking ruled. Just make more. It fits great with Boogley's original.
Yeah! It does fit well, I'll be doing the menu and preloader to match that frame by frame look, and I'm hoping to see a few more submissions with this kind of style but a mix of styles, some clean and simple, some crusty and jagged should still look great, and keep things interesting! Just go nuts guys!!
