well, if yr using flash 8 then it compresses the movie for you, but if an older version: goto file > publish settings > flash tab > then tick compress movie tick box. it doesnt compress it alot but i dont know of any other ways to compress an SWF file.

i think its kinda cool! but why dont you turn up the frame rate? i cant bare movies with under 30 fps. oh and make sure you make all sprite movies with pixel text only,
it looks nice that way :)
