Response to: Direct - a poem Posted September 5th, 2013 in Writing

At 8/31/13 01:45 AM, Ranger2 wrote: There's a fine line between poetry and writing non sequitor things that sound pretty. A poem needs to tell a story, not just talk about your emotions.

According to whom? There are various forms and genres of poetry; some are narrative, some are lyrical. Following your definition of a poem, you then have to conclude that many of Ginsberg's works are not poems. Or most of anything by Jim Carroll.

In any case, one could argue, as some jazz artists do, that it's not up to the artist to tell the story but for the audience/listener to find the story in the art.

What settings do you suppose I should change when exporting to get a top of the notch quality track?

On a side note, do you guys think Fruity Loops is a good program to be creating music on?

I used to use FL Studio waaay back when. It's a very solid piece of software and extremely affordable. If you can spend the time learning the ins and outs of it, I'm sure you'll be happy.

What settings are you currently using to export your songs?

They are like a child that get mad when a bug is crushed, because it makes them feel weird. So they rebel like a monkey in its premature cage. They really think that they have the audacity to make a woman carry through a responsibility she is not ready for. The IRS would be all over that woman like ants and sugar. Her life would be stressful and lead to an unhealthy environment for the child who may grow up and go on a killing spree because some selfish assholes wanted to prevent her from aborting a NON-SENTIENT baby to avoid needless responsibilities because of ''It makes me feel sick to my stomache, because I'm a fucktard.''

You are categorizing a group of people (pro-life) based on your own prejudices and biases. It doesn't sound like you've talked to very many of them...

Nobody has the ability to make a woman carry a baby. That's ultimately her choice. I'm anti-abortion, but I believe a woman has the right to do as she will with her body and her baby. All women have the right to do as they with their own body.

But the question isn't ABILITY (for that's found in free-will), but whether it is RIGHT or not.

Another question: how does one know whether a fetus is sentient or not? Scientists still disagree about which point in the developmental process a child will feel pain. So which study did you follow to determine that babies are non-sentient in the womb?

Response to: I'm torn on abortion. Help me Posted November 1st, 2012 in Politics

A few simple questions to ask yourself:

Is it ever okay to kill another human being?
If so, what are the circumstances to justify doing so?
Is it murder to kill someone innocent?
Is murder okay?

Following these questions...

At one point in the development process is an embryo/fetus considered human?
Is either actually human?
(For the more serious thinkers) What is it to be human?

Quite a bit of abortion support rests on the belief that the life inside of a woman prior to birth is, at certain intervals, NOT human. So these questions are extremely important.

Here's my final question:
In the entire history of mankind, has a woman ever given birth to a fish?

The Acronyms - "Ratio" (new album) Posted October 31st, 2012 in Audio

Hey guys, I know it's not customary to post these things (without backlash) but I wanted to take a shot and post about this album we've been working on for the last year-and-a-half.

This album is entirely self-produced using a MacBook Pro, an Akai MPK25 midi controller, a Tascam US-122mkII audio interface and some instruments. We used Logic Pro as our DAW. On the album I played guitars, bass, keys and sang almost everything. My friend Sam programmed all the drums and my friend Travis played the saxophone. It is a studio project but one we're quite proud of...

A few weeks ago, I asked for some help coming up with the cover art. I knew NG would be the perfect place to find someone. I was right. Ludic and bird-man both quickly responded to my request and delivered something phenomenal. For the record, anybody looking for professional quality work for your music, contact these guys. J-qb also initially provided some help, but I believe he was injured and couldn't continue. I thank all of you for your help.

The album will be available to stream on NG for anybody to listen. I think you'll be able to download it, if you'd like. The album will also be on sale through all major online music stores (itunes, amazon, etc.) including Bandcamp. Please help support us if you can, we're trying to raise funds to create physical copies of the album.

Okay, I'm done blathering. I just wanted to thank the NG community for helping us make this a reality. I look forward to working with all of you in the future, in whatever capacity, for whatever kind of project.

I haven't heard much about anything with the Wii U. It reminds me of the 3DS. It has this novelty that seems TOO MUCH. Like the Vita. Great idea, great system, but perhaps it's just a bit much. I don't know.

I'd prefer just an upgrade to the Wii.

Tonight! Debate - Romney/obama Posted October 3rd, 2012 in Politics

Ladies and Gentlemen, it's what everybody's been waiting for:

Obama VS. Romney

Both candidates will wear only socks and beat each other with burning copies of the United States Constitution. The winner will then take his weapon, swallow it, and regurgitate it into an image resembling his face.

Uh.. Just a sec, let me clarify.
Considering your examples, most of them are photography based and manipulations. Is that they kind of cover you are looking for, or are you looking for a drawn one?

I appreciate your professionalism. It DOES NOT have to be photography-based. It could be drawn, painted, whatever. It just needs to catch the eye. I referenced the Pink Floyd because I want it to have a sense of "something's not right". I'll post an example. In "Wish You Were Here", you have two ordinary people shaking hands. Fine. But one of them is on fire. Something's wrong. It should be normal, but something's wrong.

I posted that picture above to explain what I was looking for. The album is extremely eclectic.

I'm not an artist. I can't draw or design. My art's in music. So I'm really looking for someone else to design this thing. All I have is a style-idea, and an album title: Ratio

And cash of course. ;)

I'm going to post a few songs here to get a feel for the song. If anyone is considering the commission, I can email the entire album for a full listen and then we can discuss more.

Off-hand, I'm looking for something in the vein of old-Pink Floyd album covers. Something like what Storm Thorgerson does with his group of misfits. Something odd. Where the world around the subject is normal, but the subject is out of place.

Album Art? Posted October 1st, 2012 in Art

Has anyone here ever designed an album cover (music)? I'm trying to find someone to help design my band's album/CD cover and figured the NG community would have some talent.

Willing to pay $.

On another note, for those who have done it before, what was the creative thinking behind designing the cover? Did you listen to the music and design from there? Or was it more of a "band told me what to do and I did it" kind of thing?

Response to: Why No Third Party Candidates? Posted September 30th, 2012 in Politics

People are drawn to what is presented to them. Anyone ever hear about that study regarding how much people will eat? People will more often than not continue eating past satiety if the food is simply placed on the table. Few there be that consider the issue at hand.

It's horrible because I now have to choose between Romney and Obama to be my President. Voting for another is essentially throwing my vote away. But out of principle, I cannot vote for either one. I do not trust Romney. He flip-flops. And I disagree with Obama's policies. So what can I do?

My vote then becomes a symbolic gesture of my refusal to play the game. But who's really going to notice?

Eh...
