Well, if someone was helpful and mature, they would choose them of course. They also probably pick users if they have a great understanding of art, the BBS, audio, icons, or reviews.

I know that this used to be an option for many of NG's older users, like littlewashu, whose gender in his/her profile is shown as "unspecified". Why can't newer users decline to state their genders?

I've heard that you didn't have to pick a gender if you made an account before the redesign in 2007. Now, you have to choose a gender.
