Hmm, I guess it was almost one of those low-scoring days. NEVERTHELESS, I hope everyone gives all of the submissions a chance!

It's point-and-click, it doesn't get any simpler than that.

You may want to turn down the quality.

Komix and I put a lot of work into this game, so we hope you guys all really enjoy it.

It is a huge file...

...but it's not like it's costing you anything to play it :) <3

House of Squid takes its rightful first place for the day! Huzzah!

Response to: Halloween, Christmas, Treasure Hunt Posted November 4th, 2006 in NG News

Sorry to double-post, but I'm the jerk who doesn't read the last page of discussion and then decides he hadn't said all he feels needs to be said.

You know, every time I see a review of one of my newer cartoons that says "Your style has really improved, it looks so professional", I want to feel happy but I can't help but feel like I'm losing my place as an amateur animator. Really, I am not professional. I have no formal training, I work only for myself, I have a 19" monitor and a 4x6 Wacom with a broken pen, and I've really only been working with Flash for a year. I'm not even very good at drawing, though I've improved since I decided last year to learn. But when I work on a project, I sleep five to zero hours every night and work from bed to back until it's complete. And I was doing this for Newgrounds before there was ever any prospect of monetary involvement.

Anyway, it's far from my place to say whether or not I feel I deserved a prize in this contest, but I do feel that I deserved the opportunity to compete. I think that everyone who made it into the contest earned it, even the new RAB cartoon, which does not, despite everyone's apparent expectations, have a massive studio of hundreds of trained artists working on it.

The top three all get the same prize, so I didn't stress too much over which was best of the three. My one early regret is that I really did like the Blockhead Halloween special and wonder if I should have bumped it into the top three.

Not too late to change your mind... *ahem*

In all honesty Tom, the Halloween prizes were remarkably generous, and the fact that you thought Blockhead was worthy of 4th place and $500 is very, very awesome of you. I promise that I am not at all disappointed, only thrilled! You probably just made sure that my family will get gifts this Christmas, haha.

But if by some chance I place in the monthly top 5, then I will stop hating you forever :D

Thanks, Tom!

P.S. - I don't want to check now and risk losing what I've typed so far, but the last time I looked, Blockhead 8 hadn't been added to the series page yet. Those poor, poor fans :(

Response to: Halloween Art Contest Winners Posted November 3rd, 2006 in General

omg why din mien win???

Actually, I rather enjoyed the winners. I am thrilled to see that Gybrush Threepwood of Monkey Island was a winning character in one of the submissions.

On the side, I think this is a great thing you NG dudes are doing for the forum and for the site in general. Drawing programs can be much more affordable for the average visitor than Flash, and it really gives everyone an opportunity to be included.

Who knows, maybe P-Bot will have the company of a Still-Art Bot some day.

Zombie Pirates were already a part of that game (Monkey Island), so I wouldn't beat myself up over it. It would be almost like drawing a Resident Evil submission, only...less obvious.

I shoulda' mentioned that if you squint your eyes and stand about two to three feet away from the screen, he looks like he's popping out at you! Ahhh!

Also, I only used Flash to make it :D None of the blends or anything were done in Photoshop. This was my challenge...my gift...my curse.

Response to: In Memory of Elle Posted August 4th, 2006 in NG News

I still don't understand. From what I recall, this Elle person didn't "pass away". She took her own life. I know, I know, keeping her in our memories will help her to live on in our hearts and all that. Everyone wishes everyone else could live forever, but that's why we have Zombies.

I made sure to have Quimera/Toonimated say "Hi!" for me because I live on the exact opposite side of the country and thus could not attend, so I hope you NG boys treated him to lamb with mint sauce. That's priceless in Mexico, you know.

Some of those are not parody or satire, if that makes people happy. And if you think I got carried away in my last reply, you haven't seen many flamewars on the internet before, because they're usually rather uncivil.

And for the record, I'm very nice to everyone, except for jerkoffs. You reap what you sow. Sorry I made an assumption, that's usually how things come off around here. Congratulations to you as well.

Lastly, I had no idea you could buy Salad Fingers shirts at Hot Topic. I guess Foamy has a new competitor. lol. Well, if it makes you any happier, I'm working on my own series now. No more satires for me. Or at least for a long time.

I actually thought your first post was relatively mild, no attacks or anything (except maybe against Xin, which I still give credit to for all the work that goes into it), and I suppose I could have worded my response to have it sound less like a jibe back at you. I mean, I know you've got your own ideas and that the pop-culture references are really only barely part of your animations, but I just had to clear up what the profile message was all about, I guess. No more fighting words, right? :D

Besides, if I donate Blockhead DVDs for a Newgrounds monthly prize some day and you end up winning one, I'd hate to think that you planned to throw it away ;)

Also, True_Darkness: that picture made me laugh :D

Is it an issue that not everybody enjoys your dipwad cartoon series? And last time I checked, a bowl of cereal or salad fingers isn't a part of pop culture. Back when I made those I was trying to do something that nobody else had done in the parody department. I don't know how many more times I have to make these things clearer. #1, I don't mind parodies or satire. What does bother me is authors who live and breathe it. #2, I'm just having fun. I wasn't out to make some bold statement and declare war against people I was parodying. I made a cartoon and once I released it the meaning ran along with it. You can think of it what you will, but I'm moving on.

Were you listening? Oh, wait, is that your head up your ass? Nevermind.

If you're going to be sarcastic with me and discredit my work, I'm not going to be nice about it. Sorry. "<3"

That's ok, apology accepted. I suppose you can dig something negative out of my first post if you really want to, but I'll forgive you for that because it's pretty clear that you get attacked for your work all the time. That was a hefty defense for barely an "attack", but I do have some passing advice for you: when you grow up, you should curb the offensive discourse around your colleagues. You can get away with it now while you're a kid, but it'd be better if you got out of the habit sooner than later.

And congrats on your monthly win!

(And in case you weren't aware, which is totally possible, one can buy Salad Fingers shirts at Hot Topic. Popular culture, no?)

i'm fairly happy with this month except for xin which doesn't even deserve a top 20 spot, blockhead which is not funny and the guy who makes RAB getting his own DVD for the 2nd time (he got it in december as well.) he should have been excluded from the competition as well, but then again i'm glad he wasn't because a soundboard would have taken his place, which is undoubtedly worse.

x-treme tugboating should have placed better, it was such an amazing game.

finally a big congrats goes out to aerdail for fps in real life, it's about time he gets some recognition.

It makes poor Swain sad that you feel that way :( Mostly because you are a great comic, or so I suspect after reading " I AM NOT AMUSED BY POP CULTURE REFERENCES" on your profile. Have you ever NOT made a cartoon about someone else's work? Satire can be funny, but hypocrisy is always funnier. <3

And out of curiousity, if Time Squad got 4th and 5th, how much money would Swain receive? Would he get it $250 or $500. Just wondering.

The easy answer is that I wouldn't accept more than one prize for the movie anyway, as it was alway supposed to be a single release and splitting it in two in order to win twice would be grossly unfair. The next easy answer is that TS Part 3 didn't have much of a chance anyway :)

But I'm still thrilled about so many people voting for BOTH of my movies. To everyone who pushed me into the Top 5, I'll be making a toast to every one of you tonight. Thanks a million! Or is it...thanks two-hundred-and-fifty? Mwahaha...! :D
