Very nice. I maintained a frame-rate of about 28-30 on my 2.2 GHz Macbook Pro with 2 GB of RAM.

It looks like a very promising game. Keep it up!

Talent comes with effort. The three keywords are:

"Practice, practice, practice".

If you want to achieve excellence, practice as much as you can.

Topic: Need Help with Actionscript

Make sure you're using the right version of ActionScript. Version 3.0 is a lot different than 2.0. You can change this by going to File / Publish Settings... and clicking the "Flash" tab.

If this won't solve your problem, I'm sorry. I'm no ActionScripter (yet), but I've found that this is a common solution to people's problems when they're using CS3.

Topic: What AS3 books do you recommend?

Posted: 03/18/08 12:25 PM

Forum: Flash

My plan is to learn ActionScript 3.0, but I'm not sure which book/books would be best for me. I have dabbled in programming before, but I do not by any stretch of the imagination consider myself a programmer. My plan is to head towards game-design, focusing on action/adventure/RPG.
So with that in mind, I'd appreciate if you flash gurus out there would help me pick one(or more, if needed) of the many books available for those interested in learning AS3.

Thank you for you time.

Our goal isn't to directly help idiots. How you gained that idea is beyond me.
Also, I wonder how you get the impression of us being hypocrites. Can you point me to an example of us doing what we say we oppose?

Some people need a kick to realize they need to mature. People generally don't mature without being showed what it is to be mature, and why it is better.

Excellent idea. I suggest posting the list in this thread every few days, or posting it as a blog in one of our profiles.
Creating a special account named "NGCC" could possibly do as a vessel for the list. If so, a few trusted members of the club should have access to the profile, so it could be updated regularly.

These are my thoughts, take them as you please.

As previously noted, I stand by this cause.

On a side note, would you rather that people link to this page, or the original thread?

gotoAndPlay(3)

For example. If you labeled a frame with a word, you may also replace the number (which is the number of the frame you wish to go to) with that word, wrapped in quotation marks.

I am in favour of your cause. I admit, my post-count is low, and my sign-up date is recent, but I loathe the idiocy people tend to show on the 'net.
If someone starts up a club, as was suggested, I'll be happy to join and support it.

Yes, it's a handy search-engine, but don't be a jerk. I tried googling this specific thing, and came across difficulty. The topic-starter may well have done the same. If you can find something easily with google, post it here, by all means. But just saying "Google..." is akin to spamming, and is a waste of forum space.

/rant off, sorry for the off-topic nature of my post.

I found this, it's four frames in one picture, so you'll need to edit it a bit if you want to use it. The background colour shouldn't be too difficult to turn transparent with any decent-quality image-editing program.

I'll be happy to look around some more if that's not what you're looking for.

How hard is it to understand? He's not looking for anything related to the 3D game 'Portal', but for sprites depicting portals. Get it through your heads!

To the original poster: What size sprites are you looking for?

I fail to understand the reasoning behind a forum for a brand-new site with a tiny or nonexistent user-base. It's generally a good idea to add such things when demand appears.

For inspiration, browse the internet. You won't get more than sarcasm on here.
