A trailer for Game 3 is up on youtube from Behemoth's channel and the title is "BattleBlock Theater-The "official" Trailer" with the description

"Take a peek into the world of BattleBlock Theater. Having shipwrecked on a mysterious island you find yourself both betrayed by your best friend Hatty and captured by the locals. All of this is happening while being forced into deadly performances. This however, is just the start of your problems."

I do believe year 2000 has pased and we are 9 years after this "y2k". Unless you are reffering that nuclear warheads would strike the earth on this day then that would be the y2k theory happening.
And if this is it, i would make some sort of underground vault and store people in there to have happy lives. This idea is completly original and not stolen from a game called fallout. =D
