Be a Supporter!
Response to: Make Better Ads Than Me Posted September 18th, 2012 in Art

I know it's not terribly original to have these characters in, but hey, it's the money that counts for now. I could play around with the text a bit. Other ideas I had:
"These characters are in grave danger. Help by supporting us"
"Your youth? Our work! Support us now!"
"You've
- tortured celebrities
- chainsawed children
- crashed castles.
Now let's see you PAY UP."

In the end I just stuck with Pay Up. Hey, at least it's honest.

Response to: Newgrounds Art Book - Discussion Posted September 10th, 2012 in Art

It'd be hard to pick which ones get in though. Ornery suggested we should perhaps make one half of the book existing art and the other made especially for the book. Not only do we have AlvinHew and other High Ranking Classics, but also some lesser exposed people.

Response to: Support Newgrounds Posted September 8th, 2012 in General

I feel as if Newgrounds would quite well on a Steampowered engine. Offer a free service whilst allowing people to 'want' to buy user perks. Having several grades of Supporter could be a great. It's basically like wearing a TF2 hat on top of every post you make. The exp boost mentioned before could work just as well, with the right communication.

Really 'reward' voting on flashes and playing games. Make people build up street cred and personalize themselves just as well. Having access to a certain level on a Secrets page is more fun if people KNOW you have it, and want it too. Reward purchases like this as well. This may sound weird, but you could even have a seethrough watermark on the bg of your post as a way of saying; "Yeah. I'm a GIANT fucken supporter" Have random surprises every now and then as well and promote 50% sales of these digital perks like there's no tomorrow.

Response to: Pop Art? Posted September 5th, 2012 in Art

At 9/5/12 12:16 PM, CJBIG wrote: So what do you think? Is it a dying form altogether?

I don't think you fully grasp Pop-art all together.

Pop-Art has a lot of history behind it and isn't just about bright colours or recolouring images. It was about consumerism and using that consumerism as part of the artistic statement. Let's say for example; Warhol's Chair. Warhol sold this image of a most dreadful event/invention in massproduction, in colours that fit buyer's wallpaper. It's a reflection on how people have forgotten about context and content, which made way for shallow form and appearance. Marylin Monroe was nothing but an icon, she wasn't human anymore.

The main problem however, is how lazy your art is. It's all digital, it's all premade shapes and easy sliders and whilst that's debateble pop-art (after all, Warhol had people massproducing his works) you're putting it online, trying to stick more meaning in it than you should. On the question if Pop-art is dead or not; yes it is. Like every other single art movement in history. You should try focus on the now and study on how the current situation came to be. Simply redoing old gestures isn't fitting nor relevant to today's ideas.

It seems like you heard of Warhol and thought to yourself "I can do this too!" That's not an attack, mind you. It's easy to fall in that trap. Warhol's work IS relatively easy to make. Heck, some people hate Warhol for bringing lazy kitsch into art, which is also a very valid point of view.

Bottom line: whatever you think or believe; before you start using the shape tool in Photoshop, pick up a real pencil and some books. It's so much more rewarding and a far better base than any preset ever.

I was complimenting the fact you're working on it, not the drawings themselves yet. Speaking of, more of those, less of the chatting.

If simply calling someone jealous equals dissing in your book, you must be very easy to impress.

I admit I prolly could have been a bit more reserved and I apologize for that behaviour, but I'm really sick how his work keeps on getting endless and mindless praise whilst what he needs is a good wake-up spanking. His cartoons haven't improved at all and are losing the test of time. He's getting more and more lazy by the minute and should pick up the pace again. Tacoman really isn't all that welldrawn or particularly clever (anymore).

He limits himself to his series which all look incredibly samey. I know there's a thing called 'style' but the least you can do is try and improve on it. Doki did this, he sorta moved on from Salad Fingers with his current Sock animations and they're downright amazing, whilst ebolaworld just keeps making the same stagnant stuff.

Really, it's better that you do it yourself. Not only will it look far more stylistically correct, it's also a good training for yourself. You can't let others do these things for you if you don't know how to do them :)

However, I am wondering what you would have in mind if you find this logo 'bland'. It's many things, but 'simple' is not one of them.

Response to: How do you come up with ideas? Posted August 13th, 2012 in Art

Depends. Sometimes I have a very clear vision of what I want and need. Often, I start with a doodle and get lost so badly in details, I kind of "NEED" to finish it. This mostly results in a lacking background though.

Where my inspiration comes from though, is a lot of music, common streetview of bored people ignoring other people looking at nothing in particular, Daumier cartoons, old b+w movies when surreality actually hadn't jumped the shark yet, circus freaks which none of us ever really has gotten to see. Every now and then, I tend to throw in some African/Easter Island/Ancient Egyptian imagery, depending on the subject.
