Hint: It has the greatest music of any SNES game ever. In fact, it has some of the best video game music of all time, easily beating almost all modern game music.

It doesn't bring anything new to the series, nor does it refine it. It's just a Sonic game, nothing better than what handheld Sonic games have done before. In fact, I think the handheld games have done much better. It ain't worth the wait, and it doesn't refine Sonic in any way.
