Politics changes the world and is goverbned mainly by mob mentality and now, in our post-modern society, the media. Philosophy itself holds no importance to the natural world.

It depends on the way it's looked at. In certain periods, it was philosophy behind the politics. Some examples:

The philosophy of Hitler and Aryanism (Yes, I played the Hitler card. Es tut mir Leid.)

The philosophy of Communism (although we all can agree this was followed in name only).

The philosophies of various Englightened Despots.

The philosophies (in American culture) of various French and English political philosophers from the 1600-1700s essentially created the US Constitution. This is probably the most concrete example I have at the moment.

It's just one of many, many things which impact society in subtle ways.

In case you don't know who Audie Murphy is, you should look
Him up. Some of the shit he did is like Call of Duty on steroids, such as destroying a machine gun crew and then using their weapons to destroy several other positions, or getting on top of a tank and shooting into the masses in the midst of a losing battle.

And isn't he just adorable?

I haven't posted much in it but I'd love to join. I'd invite the Floydian society along, but they are mostly Britishers.

Then again, so are you. Perhaps we would need to have it in the Old Country?

Philosophy is useless and drugs aren't needed to socialise.

So far it seems the consensus among Brits is that the North American English accents aren't bad overall, but they have more potential to be.

I always remember this sort of thing, but then when I have to put it into practice in communicating with my woman it often drifts back into "Huh???".

The times that I remember we are good, but usually I am much better at understanding her in retrospect, which makes it difficult. She still doesn't understand me for the life of her, but I don't think that bothers her too much.

Fargo isn't set in Canada, you nut.

It's set in Minnesota.

I know this. Have you looked on the map where geographically (especially the Twin Cities and Fargo) they are? And since you felt you HAD to correct me, Fargo is located in North Dakota, so it isn't only in Minnesota. The accents of the heavy Canadian and the heavy Mid-Western are the same.

And British English, and American English are pretty much the same sounding.

Huh.

Though 'aluminium' is much more fun to say than 'aluminum'.

Strong American accents don't sound good to me, but I'm fine with the non-accent accents that are present in the US. Like in New York, or something.

New York is one of the strong accents.

You are incorrect. The amount of continents existing is relative to where you live. Some places feel there are only 5 continents, America, Eurasia, Oceana, Africa, and Antarctica. Others, like the US, feel there are 7, North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, and Antarctica.

So, you are correct to the US' standards, but not other places. So you fail.

How many ways are there to say this word? I'm pretty sure there isn't, and you're just talking out of your ass. Americans pronounce it phonetically, because itr makes sense anyway: "Oh-reh-gahn-oh"
It's prolly more of the New York accent here, they roll it off like "Oh-rag-an-oh

Doubtful. That appears more southern than New York. New York would be "Uh-reh-ga-no" like most of the US. In this case the New York accent wouldn't put any difference on the overall pronounciation.

And they spell the following wrong:
Mum - Mom
I think the rule here is that depending on how you pronounce it is how you spell it. Since Americans tend to make the short 'o' sound (Mahm) and Brits make the short 'u' sound (Muhm), it all evens out.

I didn't know that Mum was the official usage. We use it occasionally in the US, just not as often as mom. You don't use mom at all?

Gaol - Jail
Does anybody spell it like that? Correction: Does anybody besides Shakesphere spell it like that?
Well exactly America has kind of changed it world wide, I just checked my MacQuarie (Australian Uni) dictionary and it has both spellings in there.

Yeah, I had never seen it spellt like that, so that's a new one to me.

Colour - Color
Americans have already realized that the 'u' is superflous, why haven't you? it's not like it has any bearing on the pronunciation.
It seperates it from sounding like Collar I guess is the main thing, take the u out of superflous then.

The u is still useful in superfluous. It's flu-ous, not superflOUs.

Also, I will admit I prefer the sight of colour better, even though the words are the exact same. It feels more natural. But, c'est la vie.

You guys are both wrong, as it's Britons. Britain is the country.

So far it appears that only three have answered the way I was hoping for. Flaming and such is quite welcome, but I'm curious about your opinion as to the sound of the dialect; the way it appeals to you just merely by sound.

Perhaps this would be better asked to someone who isn't a natural speaker. I know one Brazilian who likes British much better.

Yes, we spell things differently. It isn't that it is incorrect, it is just our official dialect thanks to Noah Webster.

This is concerning how the accent sounds and your opinions of it.

I find the american changes to the language, silly words, different spellings, drastic pronunciation differences a bit too much of a bastardisation, i don't know how it is in canada.

There also seems to be a lack of differing accents and dialects in America, i know there are, but compare it to england, from where i am living, if you go 20miles up the coast it can be quite difficult to understand what people are saying if they relax into their normal accent.

I personally hate southern english accents aswell :P Northern + Scottish accents are the best.

I don't hate southern English accents so much, but I do agree that Northern and Scottish accents are really nice.

Canadian is extremely similar to American, it just sometimes replaces some things. If you've ever seen the movie Fargo that is a good example of its extremities, but usually it is much more mild (to the point of being identical to American).

And yeah, our dialects aren't quite as rampant as yours, but we do have quite a bit (Boston to New York you'll hear some somewhat different accents). I can't understand what some extreme southern accents are saying.

You say a bastardization, which I can understand, but how do you find it sounds? That's what I meant by making this topic. I apolgize if that wasn't clear.

This is a question for you Brits. Most tongues of their originality sound much better to most, such as Spanish compared to the Mexican dialect, Portuguese compared to the Brazilian, and French compared to the Canadian.

I'm just curious if your opinions are as drastic as those towards those other languages. That is, do you find American (Canadian included) English particularly ugly, or just somewhat bland; or anything else?

If need be I will revive this when more Brits are on. I have a bit of a fever so I can't quite comprehend time zones as well as usual.

Anyway, discuss.

So Newgrounds, O ye great conveyer of wisdom! I have a situation which I was wondering what you thought about.

There is this certain girl who I happened to have a fling with a few years ago and still thinks of me fondly (I believe; signs point to this). I do not really think of her the same way (it was nice, but meh). I have my eye on another girl who I am very close to and believe something good could happen with.

Well, it turns out that my mom invited the former girl who I had a fling with to stay for me for a few dyas. Truly the only thing we had was a physical relationship (she didn't have too much to talk about), so our friendship isn't extremely strong. I don't really want to continue that.

What do you think my best choice of action would be to take?
