It's not like science is an either-or deal. The people who are going to be working on the Space elevator are not the same people who are working on a cure for cancer. And contrary to popular belief, despite how bad the economy is, the United States still has A LOT of money to fund both. Hell, I would rather my tax dollars go towards a $10 Billion project with a benefit than a $700 Billion bailing out of AIG, which actually did happen, kiddies.

You visit your dying grandma using a hospital elevator, or you could use the SPACE ELEVATOR and go to SPACE CAMP WHERE SHIT ACTUALLY MATTERS!!!

Dude, what are you talking about Bleach is by far and away one of the more unique mangas out there. It's in fact one of the only mangas out there I can stand to read because it's not the same crap that Naruto or Inuyasha or everything else is.

Keep in mind that the quote doesn't necessarily pertian to wars alone. Things like the Holocaust, the Civil Rights movement, Stalin's imprisonment of millions in Siberia, and the Trail of Tears all are examples of what I was saying in the quote

You make humanity seem more noble than it is in my opinion. Take the Crusades for example, I'd say that was motivated 10% by religion and 90% by the desire to loot.

My interpretation of beliefs also include the belief that we deserve that loot more than the people who currently have it.

Well, I think it is safe to sat that none of us will be bringing our academic style of writing to the Newgrounds forums, and if the word "random" happens to be in the common vernacular in the context that I used, that could be considered a specific choice to make my post more relevant to the majority, rather than the academic elite

Are you actually 19? I haven't heard anyone older than 15 use the word random in that context. I guess I'm just expecting a little more maturity out of somebody with 2 years on me, but you never know. Just curious is all.

Yes, I'm 19. And I do not see how random used in that context was inappropriate or immature.

Response to: Let's all make quotes! Posted September 23rd, 2008 in General

I just mentioned this one in the thread I started

"All of human history follows the same basic formula: One group holds a set of beliefs. Another group holds a different set of beliefs. Then a lot of people die."

Now it's in my signature

Response to: English Paper: Best Quote Ever Posted September 23rd, 2008 in General

Yeah but the brevity stands in contrast to the rest of the essay, which tends to use long sentences and elaborate language. I do this often while writing: When I want to make something stand out because I feel it is particularly important or humorous, I have to change the style for that point.

"All of human history follows the same basic formula: a single group holds a single set of beliefs, another group holds a different set of beliefs, and many people die."

Well, this was more of a style choice because I was trying to give it a little bit of a dead pan humorous feel. It was especially aimed to impress my professor who loves dead pan humor

hahahah, that's nice.

I decided that I like this quote enough that I'm putting it in my signature. And no, I didn't steal it from Isaiah Lyons, that's my real name

I was kind of going for the over simplified dead pan humor on the "Then a lot of people die" line.

English Paper: Best Quote Ever Posted September 23rd, 2008 in General

I was writing a paper for my English 103 class where the subject was conformity. At one point I was discussing how all of human history has been about the pursuit for a group or authority figure to impose their will on others. Eventually I ended up with this quote, which I am now actually quite proud of:

"All of human history follows the same basic formula: One group holds a set of beliefs. Another group holds a different set of beliefs. Then a lot of people die."
