Well, it reassures me that someone has actually started on their part, that's for sure.

I think the background CAN be better though. I'd also suggest some darker colours instead of the ones you have now. Just make them slightly darker. But so far, it's actually looking pretty good.

Yeah, that works. But to be honest, since your scores are so low, I'm going to NEED to see some type of test animation that can prove you can make something of quality.

Posted: 07/19/08 09:08 PM

Depends on articles of clothing as well. If a character has a lot of crazy clothing, I would separate certain body parts into different layers, just because of overlapping things parts. Perhaps I wouldn't want to redraw the certain clothing every frame, or go through the tedious process of erasing tiny details while zooming in. All of that would be easier if separated into different layers.

I ALWAYS put mouths on a seperate layer, if the character is talking. If there's no dialogue, then I think it's fine to put it on the same layer. As the last guy said, it's all about feeling comfortable about what you're doing. There's no "right" way to do it, just what you prefer.

So we can't be funny? Aww. :(

It depends what you mean by funny. If it has something to do with the Joker or something along those lines, doing something funny, then yeah, it's okay.

But if it's some type of sketch-like comedy, then no.

Topic: The Dark Knight Collab

Posted: 07/19/08 08:00 PM

Forum: Flash

With the amazing success of the movies release, I felt it is absolutely necessary to make a collab about one of the greatest superhero's ever made, Batman.

The collab will basically follow the animatrix-esque Batman movie titled "Batman: Gotham Knight". Basically, the collab will be your everyday "normal" collab, but based around Batman. Hopefully a bunch of great animators will jump on this project, because The Dark Knight was such a good movie, that it deserves a great tribute.

BASIC INFORMATION

I have Flash CS3, so any version is accepted.

Framerate: 24 fps
Background: White
Stage Size: 575(width) x 350(height) pixels
Length for Part: 10-120 seconds
Name symbols uniquely: Ex. swiftstylerx_symbol_red ball
Break apart ALL text, in case I do not have the font
NO NUDITY, -OCKS, STICKS, OR PROFANITY
Due Date: October 15th - I'm hoping for a Halloween release, just because of how dark the Batman series is.

MORE INFORMATION/RULES

I am looking for talented animators. Anyone with a BA under 3.75 will not be accepted, unless you can show me work that will be up to par with my standards. I will reject anyone that I do not think will have the capabilities to actually animate a great part.

I want this to be an extremely dark collab. I am not looking for extremely happy parts. I want you guys to be SERIOUS, and to make as serious a part as you possibly can. Do not be afraid to have violence. Extreme violence is definitely accepted, but if it gets too "gory" then I may ask you to tone it down a little.

Remember, Batman does NOT kill his enemies, so anyone who just makes a part with Batman killing a lot of people, then it will not be accepted. If you can convince me otherwise, perhaps I will let it slide. But for now, no deaths or killings unless they are from a villain, and not Batman.

Any villains are allowed. It does not have to revolve around the movie, so the villains do not have to be the Joker or Two-Face. Your part does not necessarily have to be about Batman or Bruce Wayne, but can indeed just be based solely on the villain, perhaps to dig deeper into what their life will be like.

ABOUT THE LEADER

I am swiftstylerX, 16 years old, and have already won over $750 from Newgrounds. I won 6th place in Pico Day last year, and 12th place in Madness Day. I have a good reputation for finishing collab parts, and have ran a few "unsuccessful" collabs before. I don't want that to happen again, and I really hope this collab will shine like no other collab has before.

I will be making a part, but right now I am also running another collab on NG Collabs, and I am now starting work on Finale: Pathway Through Newgrounds. Mods, do not worry. This collab will not be abandoned, and it will have my full attention.

Well, get joining!

Dude, STOP bitching. It would take about an hour to turn your stick into a real character, so just do it already. I guarantee your part would be put in if it had detailed characters, and not a rushed, crappy background.

Listen to my advice because I DO know what I'm talking about. I've been in over 15 collabs (most of them never finished, although I finished my parts) and I know which parts are worthy of making it in serious collabs such as this.

Your collab was not up to par, and bitching and moaning isn't going to fix it. Going back and making the necessary changes will definitely help, and will most likely land you a spot in this collab. Practice makes perfect, and complaining has never helped anyone.

Dude, just stop. ShortMonkey led the "Have a Nice Day" collab, which received a daily second, and has a score of 4.28.

He knows full well the kind of parts he's going to have in this collab, and you can bet your ass that in the end, he will have everything he wanted from the beginning. People trust him, because he's already ran a VERY successful collab.

If all you're going to do is complain, then there is no reason for you to be here. How about you just make your part better instead? Get rid of that crappy stick, and change it with a detailed character. Fix the syncing because it's way off, and change the mouths to not look so ridiculously unprofessional.

I just re watched it, and have one little criticism(which is hard to find in something so beautiful as this). When the camera is panning on the kid and the dragon(?), it looks like they're floating a little bit. They move too far over, when the background is barely panning, so it looks as if they're sliding along the ground.

I didn't say it was shit, just bad. lol I'm just not a fan of "a billion effects and filters", or the typical "band playing the song" collab parts. There's a story within this song, and I think the parts should try to reflect that.

Also, not to mention the characters look pretty bad, but you've already said you're going to change that.

Effects = Less space, more lag.

Graphics = A little more space if it's intense graphics, but can actually take up less space for small effects, a lot less lag.

I'd say test it in another .fla first with one of the scenes that requires the effects, and see which works out better for you. By the way, the flash looks amazing.

That's not really true. In the actual timeline, event and stream produce the same effect, only when it's exported does it change. So, you're right if they actually changed it after viewing the exported version, because they thought the sync was off. But in the timeline, it won't effect anything.

SM, your part is pretty bad, so I'd hope to god his part is at least better than yours. Also, when doing a collab, it doesn't matter what they set their sound too. Surely you of all people would know that in the complete collab .fla, you should have the complete song, and not individual clips of the song pieced together.
