NATA 14 entry.
Unfinished NATA project...
My entry. I tried a combo of 2D and 3D in Maya. Got ahead of myself, and it didn't really come out the way I wanted. Totally not finished, but it's what I got.
Figured I'd try to enter. Sleep deprivation from school and work made this dark for some reason...
NATA '14 submission about how important ice cream is...
Those things you listed are just common trends on newgrounds/youtube. That does not mean you're a "real animator". To be honest, I don't think there is such a thing. I would have said "if you make money doing it," but that really isn't the answer either. Animation is just one of the many mediums of filmmaking. March to your own drumbeat, make what you want to make. Those things became big, because when the first video game parody animation was made, it was new and exciting. They're rather dull now (most of 'em anyway). Perhaps if you just let your imagination flow and not worry about the "rite of passage", then you could make the next thing that people want to emulate.
Hey everyone. So I've been interested in animation for a while now (I uploaded my first animation in 2009), and I've been animating pretty consistently ever since, but I just am not improving. I can see it in my work, and I would've thought after 5 years it would've been a little better, and yes, some things have improved, but in the bigger picture, I'm not where I wanna be. Anybody have recommendations on what to practice, as in, animation exercises in order to get better?
Hi y'all. So I was wondering how people go about freelance work? Where exactly do you find the jobs? I don't really have many connections (or any) since I'm in my first year of college, but I'd like to at least see if I could do it. And also to even see if I could do animation under pressure and with direction from someone else. Any help is appreciated.
Hello everyone. So I've made a button that links to my youtube page. Here's the script I'm using.
on(release){
getURL("https://www.youtube.com/user/AldoDrawdell")
}
Now, this is for the button, I didn't put this script on the layer. So, it works fine when I test it (ctrl+enter), but I tried submitting it to newgrounds, and the button no longer works. I can click it, but it won't take me anywhere. Any suggestions?
Got it to work now. I just changed "scene 3" to the actual name of the scene I'm using. Thanks for the help anyway.
So I've tried making a menu with buttons I've made, not just a simple preloader. I want a main "play movie" button, and then I want an extra button to play a little short I've made as well.
For the play movie button, here's the script I'm using.
on (release) {
gotoAndPlay ("Scene 2", 1);
}
And that works just fine. But I have another button for the extra short, and that button just plays the movie again. Here's the script I've used for the short button.
on (release) {
gotoAndPlay ("Scene 3");
}
On both layers of the buttons, I have this script on each frame.
stop();
Any suggestions for where I went wrong?
Hi. So I'm not sure if this is my computer or if it's an update that happened on newgrounds, but whenever I watch one of my videos (the dimensions I use are usually 1920x1080), the video doesn't play all neatly in that little square, it takes up my whole screen. The videos used to play regularly in smaller screen and below were the comments and all that. As far as I can tell it's only my videos doing this. I've looked at others and they look normal (though I'm not aware of what dimensions they used for the .FLA so...). If it's just happening to me, I don't really care, I just want other people to be able to see it regularly. All help is appreciated.
Success! I fixed it. For some reason, Windows was making Flash lower on the volume mixer. Much appreciated. However, I do have one last question. I recorded audio, and it sounds fine when streaming, but if I hit ctrl+enter to test the movie, the audio has static pops in it. Which one is more accurate when it comes to the final product? Thanks again.
Narp, I'm afraid not. I have it set to Speech 44Khz, and it sounds fine (wasn't sure which setting I was supposed to set it to for your answer), but the audio is still low. Thanks anyways. Any other suggestions?
So, I've recorded the lines, created the sound effects, yada yada. They sound pretty loud in audacity. However, when I import them into Flash, it sounds very quiet and it becomes hard to hear. Any way to fix this problem? I'm not too sure why it sounds quiet, considering I amplified the sounds to their max without "clipping" in audacity. Thanks in advance. :)
Can't work on this no more. Feelin' finished.
What if there was a cave that could help you to relive everything?
Good luck everyone.
That helped a lot. The overlay seems like a neat trick. Thanks!

Also, one more question. Do we have to include the whole song?
And I'd totally join the skype group. Skype name is evan.helf

Hey guys. So, I'm creating a new animation, and my character is going into a cave. However, it looks weird because his palette stays the same. As in, you would think his colors become darker since he's in a cave. My question to you is, how do colors change when they go from a bright setting, to a dark setting? Does everything become a bluish type of color? I've seen that done on Ed, Edd, n Eddy, and some other cartoons, but I'm not too sure on how to do that. Any tips are appreciated. Thank you.
Question. Are we allowed to put our submissions on youtube as well, or are they restricted to newgrounds only? Thanks in advance :)
A holiday, it's origin, and the hopes for a new world.
Feeneeshed! Hey everyone. Good luck with your submissions. I've seen some great stuff so far! :D
I found a song that fits exactly to what I need. The rhythm, the feel, it all just kind of fits (not saying the audio portal isn't a good source for music). But thank you for the help.
Hello everyone. I've been looking for some music to use with my animations. I looked up "royalty free music" and came across all the usuals like Kevin MacLeod and DanO. I also came across a site called JewelBeat. Has anyone had any experience with this site, and if so, is it safe/trustworthy? Thanks in advance :)
Wow. Never seen that before. I'll try to keep at this color thing until I get the hang of it (though that palette creator should speed things up, haha.) You've been a great help Otto. Thanks a ton.
I think I kind of understand what you're saying. That website is a great help, much appreciated :). Yeah, I'm assuming this is all just going to take practice, because colors have always been a weak spot for me, though that blue/orange color comparison makes things a tad easier. Thanks again for the help :D.
Hello everyone. I'm working on an animation, and my weakness is always coloring. I just can't seem to grasp it. I always choose off colors, or colors that might not fit the scene the best. What I'm asking is what are some ways to create a color scheme. I understand it's hard to make one without knowing what the scene is even of, but I'm asking about how you choose color, or maybe how you decide what the scheme will be? Thanks, and much appreciated :) .
Thanks guys. I appreciate the responses. Kinda comforting when you know people have the same mindset. Hehe. Anyways, just wanted to see how other people do projects. Seems many people try to finish their animations quickly. I'm liking the way things are going as of right now, while I take my time. I've done about an hour a day (give or take) and so far I'm very happy with the result. Methinks I just gotta chill and actually enjoy the animation process, instead of "OH GOD, I HOPE PEOPLE LIKE THIS, BETTER RUSH". But that's not to say it's the only way, just the way I enjoy it. Good luck to everybody, and thanks again :)
'Ello there. I've been making little animated shorts for about 2 years now, and for most of those shorts, my mindset was always "gotta finish as fast as possible." I always thought that if I was to ever be an animator, I would have to get used to being quick. However, now that I'm starting on a new animation, and I'm taking my time, I find that I like it more. I can go at my own pace, no stress, and my ideas flow more freely. I still give myself goals though. (I try to get in an hour of animation a day.) In your opinion, what's the best way to work? Do you rush it? Take your time? Thanks in advance :)
Thanks BananasFoster. Wish I could say that I meant to do that, but I'm really just a sucky storyteller. haha.
Also, thanks Pahgawk. Yeah I don't understand it either. Haha. I checked the front page almost everyday, and still managed to forget. Ah well, it seems to have gone through finally. Also, thank you for the kind words! Best of luck to everyone who enters.

I actually did read the first post. It wasn't until after I submitted it that I realized I didn't have tags. I tried editing it and it doesn't submit. No need to be a total dick about it.
