Mmmm, you need to understand audio production if you want to make your own sounds.
lol
I can program a synthesizer, wire LFO, and use parameter automation.
How do I not understand audio production?
I think what he's trying to say is you need to understand how to work synths in order to create your core sound, and then you need to have knowledge on EQ's Compressions and other effects etc to get your final sound.
Which you say your quite handy in Thor, meaning you know how to work with it, which in that case surely you'd know how to get a bass sound on there already... But I'm not questioning that as I'm here to help you either way. I'm not handy with Thor myself so I'd use Subtractor or Malstrom for my bass if I was to use Reason.
Then you say you're looking for a dnb bass, so I'm assuming something like a Reese, this, to me is one of the easiest sounds to get from a synth, however, it's difficult making it sound unique, this is where personal taste, and a bit of production 'flare' so to speak, comes into play.
Here's a video tutorial on how to create a Bass, in Reason, with the Malstrom.
When you look at what he's doing, he's basically recreating the 3xOsc from FL Studio, bypassing everything else and using the core waveforms with each one slightly detuned and with portamento.
Once you've got that sound, add, EQ, connect it to scream and mess around with a bit of distortion, try adding filters, phasers, flanger and then try automating cutoff and resonance frequencies throughout your bassline.
Hope that helps!
