check back on page 3 of this thread or my last post quoting the post with the links to anti-ad information and programs. Editing your host file so that ad sites are turned to local sites seems to do the trick. Don't forget to add these to the list to prevent seeing them here: ads.track.net, www.xuppa.com, www.qksrv.net, webpdb.gator.com, ads.peel.com, ads.gorillanation.com, and www.bandbuilder.com

I run Ad-Aware and Ad-Watch (pay version). Ad-Watch stops all the malicious installers, but lets the clean pop ups through.

But instead they decided to declare war, and you can win too, just disable ActiveX from running on your browser, or have it prompt you. That should take care of gaytor, and get a pop-up blocker. Ultrastopper is what I have, it blocks most of what I see pop-up wise, but you have to disable it to open a new window from IE. Small price to pay for not seeing 95% of the ads.

Wow, this post has gone on forever about nothing. All over the fact that an explanation of downtime was posted along with an apology for it, and everyone flips out like a bunch of crack craving monkey boys. Sad that the site was down for a matter of 5hrs. The sad part about it is that everyone of Tom's or Wade's posts are like this. I live in michigan, and comcast is decent here. I never have a problem with them coming out to help, yet the problem I do have with them is the treat their customer like children. I told this techie I had gone through the procedures with unplugging and reseting my modem, but he directed me to do it again anyway. And after being out at my place the past 3-4 days, examining the line from my place internally 2x, and both servicemen, both days relaized the problem was the 20 year old cable up between poles. Its not like I didn't tell the 2nd guy that the 1st guy reached the same conclusion, its the stupid SOB didn't believe me. Far be it from me to physically stop the stupid from doing more work, but when your cutting into my time, then its a different story.

And get it right people; its COMMIEcast, cause they want you all to have it. AND my biggest problem with them is use the increase in fees to replace the wires, NOT fucking advertise to us. I mean why would you advertise to people already using your product? Use the money to improve it, and word of mouth will work for you not against you.

BTW, Tom the ad running on entry of the 4th page of this topic is a spawning ad, and it prevents me from seeing the 4th page via internal server error.

That would be the point, Wade, most of us don't want to be forced to look at ads. When we are interested in a product, we seek out information on it. And most of the past popups have been for garbage NOBODY wants. I currently use Ultrastopper to close all windows IE may open, and have set my security to prompt for all Active X, Cookies, and even scripts now. Thanks for the Spybot link ppl, I'm finally able to clean up the mess others make of my home computer. Television is almost to the point where I'm going to go buy a little timing clock and turn of the TV for the 2-3 mins they run ads during programing. Let's see them turn my TV back on during that time :)

BTW Tom, I would also like you to relase the name of the malicious adveriser so that we may all send letters in dissapproval of their actions, and any damages done to anybody's machine can be properly billed to the right advertising firm. Better them than you, right?

AOL is is the worst ISP there is. I had asked and begged for them to get some filters since their 3.0 version, and nothing was done. Now they do have filters, and they only block this huge list of domains. What a joke, and I'll bet the AOL users who spammed me STILL have accounts when they did it 3 years ago. I'm so glad I don't have AOL anymore. I wrote them a nasty email telling how bad they suck, that they don't listen to their cliental, and something funny about them finding that billion + dollars someone misplaced. I'll bet AOL users still get SPAM from AOL's affiliates, and that "AOL eliminates X amount of SPAM per day" is STILL the #1 used phrase in tech support emails about SPAM, and members get more than that in their inbox each week.

I've finally got most of the sites to add to your restricted sites list to get rid of NG pop-ups!!!!

You most likely will want to delete all your cookies (may want to write a few down, some are just for NG pop-ups) except yahoo, hotmail, and other important ones you may need. Go to your control panel, open internet options, and click the security tab. Add any site with the words "click", "ads", or "fuel". Also "rank-you.com", "troma.com", "Tromaville.com", "Go2goshop.com", "maximumcash.com", and "100travelnetwork.com" are all the rest of the sites to add not described above that I have on myt list and believe me or not I only got one pop-up the last 5 times I've visited NG. add all those with and without www's along with the only pop-up I received today "http://www.troma.com/mv-pop-up.html."

Do all that, and set the security level to custom, (Making sure to disable cookies or prompt them) apply your new settings, and restart your computer after you erase all the space NG and its ad providers have been sucking from your Hard Drive. Now you shouldn't see any pop-ups and if you do, just pay attention to what it comes up as in your address bar, and add it to your restriced sites list.

I have win 95 so it may be different, but you can still resrict sights on all versions of windows, AND YOU MUST RESTART with the new settings in place with NO cookies that the ad vultures can lock onto to trigger your browser to display their garbage.

On another note relating to the topic:

Good to see some of the trash flash goto the trash. I haven't looked but is like half of the clockcrews stuff gone, or wadded up in flight toward the basket. I know a solid number of us are hoping for it to go into the basket with a swish, LOL.
