Topic: "Soft" effects from Fighter Factor

Posted: 10/19/09 05:31 PM

Forum: Flash

While in Fighter Factory I notice that the effects look very soft and smooth, but when I attempt to export them, they are hard edged and smeared.

I'm sure the system is using some kind of soften techniques, but how do I get it so that the same visual styling is usable in Flash? I've tried using slight transparency with glow, but it just doesn't look right.

Proxicide seems to have been able to keep the integrity of the effects intact. Any help is appreciated.

Good job rent-a-mods. How about you let the mods do their job instead of trying to act like one?

Topic: Tweening or FBF

Posted: 10/08/09 12:35 AM

Forum: Flash

It depends on what style you're going for. Believe it or not, there is a LOT of tweening in shows like Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Metalocolypse.

Frame by frame is more time consuming and creates a larger file size, but depending on what you want it to look like, will be better for you than tweening.

Tweening creates the "inbeTween" frames so you don't have to animate them. There's quite a few times when you'll want to tween up to a certain point and then frame by frame after, and vice versa.

The issue isn't going to be what program you use in order to make the individual frames, it's how you have the camera and lighting set-up.

You need to make sure that you have soft shadows on your actors and NONE behind them. Using green or blue for your backdrop is going to be the best way of making sure that when you clear the alpha channel, you won't wash out your actors.

The best way of doing it is to have very bright lights on your backdrop and have your actors in a light which doesn't throw a harsh shadow all over them.

Make sure you put down markings so that your actors know where their center is so that your images will line up correctly and not bounce around. This also assists in them knowing where to be when they turn or do their moves.

For jumping and/or aerial attacks, use a box or other item with the same color as the background (make sure it's not casting a shadow as well) and have them perform the moves on that. This will give you a more uniformed look.

Make sure that you publish the images as a very high quality image format, but also one that Flash can read. A *.PNG format is ideal seeing as that is Flash's performed image format. Do not break or trace your images once they are imported in to Flash. Find your "anchor points" to keep the images from bouncing around. If your actors used their stage positions and you framed each shot exactly the same, you will not have this issue.

Fucking sweet. It's up, I voted and reviewed. I even made a front page post about it.

I love seeing everything put together. The animation is synched up perfect with each one and there's not a noticeable hicup between the files.

Good job everyone. This was great! Here's hoping for a high score and maybe a front page listing.

Oh, and I did do a front page news post about it, too.

Well...if it's on the same system or you have a way of copying the drawing and pasting it into an older version of Flash you might be able to salvage the work. Or even export it as a high, high, high (300-700dpi) PNG image with an alpha channel, then put it in the older version of Flash and size it correctly as a bitmap you should be able to save all of your work. Just convert the bitmap to a symbol WITHOUT tracing or breaking it apart.

I don't think CS4 has the ability to do that...CS3 did, but not 4.

You're always welcome to check out my animations to see if I fit your ideas. Game Ranger 3 is the best example followed by Mario: Shell Trouble.

At this time I'm working on something which is completely different from my past styles, which you can read about more in my news posts.

Well, I won't be as harsh with this...

All the collab parts are taken. I think Mr-No-Name said he was going to do a special section in the credits for people who didn't make it and/or had to drop out for different reasons.

We're all anxiously awaiting the completion of the project and seeing it uploaded. Putting together a collab is more involved than people give credit.

Oh, gottcha with the logo and all, too. I'm trying to remember if I put my logo in the VCam or in the movie frame...if it's in the VCam, just delete that layer.

I'll just submit my picture and let you do the resizing:

No, it wasn't you. It's a collab so issues came up, delays occured, etc, etc, etc. Things like that just happen when working with a bunch of people all over the world. This isn't the first collab to end up with issues which delay it and it sure won't be the last.

I really hope that it's ready to be assembled so we can get it uploaded.

How do you want the images to look, Mr-No-Name? I can always very easily remove the background and have it just myself, or keep myself leaning on the fence. I was smart enough to do it all in different layers, making them symbols unto themselves.

Ok... hows that look

Wow, good job thus far. I like how animated the stars are and Strawberry riding that rocket as the hand comes down (a la Level 60 icon).

Just a little thing that I noticed was that the darker blue on the space part is noticably boxy when it starts to zoom out.

Also, the animation needs to be in letter box format (black bar on the top and bottom) like in the sample screen below.

Topic: Are sprite movies dead nowadays?

Posted: 09/14/09 06:05 PM

Forum: Flash

Sprite movies aren't dead, it's just a fad to hate on them recently.

Now, the problem with most sprite movies is that people think they are easy, so they dick slap something together and post it. There's a lot of attention to detail you have to still do when making a sprite movie.

Make sure your sprites don't bounce around. Make sure you are doing something more original than "Mario jumps on a flagpole and gets it stuck up his ass".

Good sprite animations get the respect they deserve and the ones which are slapped together by a ballsack with hands get bombed.

My Captain R: The Game Ranger series is done well and gets attention because it's original. I've not made another Phoenix Wrong because it would be pointless. I did Mario: Shell Trouble, getting a daily fourth, and that isn't my normal style.

Anyone who sits there and screams "You stole all of this using sprites!!!!!" just shows how worthless they are. If someone were to draw the same animation, it would be "OMFG STOLEN CHARACTERS!" to "Nice drawings!". It's a double standard and those who apply it really don't think their comments through. I'm surprised they've lived long enough to learn how to use the computer effectively, to be honest.

In the end, just put real effort into your project and don't be cliche.

Okay, I have three different options for my bio page drawing. I don't know how Mr-No-Name wants it laid out, but here's a link with three different background choices. The image would stay the same and the bio would be to the right where all the white space is.

Sunrie Bio Page Mock Up

Let me know which background you guys like the most. This took me about two and a half hours to draw. The backgrounds, obviously, I didn't draw.

Hey, if that missile is going to impact the Earth with a boom, put in one of the clocks, like Strawberry, riding on top of it. They spam on purpose and it would be kind of like what Rockstar does in their games (such as Sprunk, Weazel News, etc in regards to their real life counterparts). Would be kind of a nod and metaphor toward what they do in portal.

Hell, even put the more known Clock Crew characters riding on it all determined.
