Heh heh, golfinho makes some pretty wacky stuff. I'm glad he's gonna have a tablet now; I can't wait to see what he makes with it! Congrats, golfinho!

Regarding the auras, it seems like they're more representative of users' personality types rather than the types of content they create. There's "Light," "Dark," "Evil," and so on; the names don't sound like they would match up well to "Flash," "Audio," and "Art." After all, a piece of art can have so many different themes and moods. If you we're to change the names of the auras, things might make more sense.

That said, I prefer having the option to choose my aura, and I think being able to do so would satisfy the largest number of users.

By the way, NG needs an orange aura. There's red, yellow/gold, green, blue, purple, and pink, but no orange! :O

True, but how often do people these days go around threatening others by waving their rocks and sticks in the air? Plus, killing with a gun can take seconds, whereas killing with rocks and sticks can take much longer.

Stricter gun control is only going to affect the law abiding citizens who use their guns for recreational purposes. It's not going to magically solve gang violence, and it's not going to cut down on the number of homicides.

Perhaps not, but even so, I'm against guns in general because they do nothing but cause harm. They're dangerous as hell, and so you never know when an accident will happen.

If people are pissed off, for some reason or another, there are plenty of ways for them to harm people without using guns.

People like you have, for some reason, forgotten that people have been murdering each other for thousands of years, the introduction of firearms didn't change that at all.

True, but the introduction of firearms sure did make murder a hell of a lot easier, dontcha think?

You assume that if there were no guns in the world, we would all be singing kum-bay-ah around the bonfire,

Nope, I never said that. But I do believe that the number of deaths resulting from human conflict would decrease if guns didn't exist.

in reality we would use anything we could get our hands on to kill each other.
This is human nature, not Disney bullshit.

I completely agree with the human nature bit, which is precisely why I'm opposed to guns and weapons in general.

But if the gun didn't exist, would this still have happened? It might have, if the perpetrator had decided to pose a threat with a crowbar or a hatchet, but the situation probably wouldn't have been nearly as terrifying and life-threatening as it was.

Also, it's not always easy to pick up on someone's internal conflicts and such. I don't think anyone can just look at people and easily determine their mental states.

Click the link in the OP's post and look at the guy in the picture. Can you tell exactly what he's thinking or how he feels?

Plus, if we PUT a gun in everyone's hand, you could defend yourself and criminals would be intimidated.

If every person had a gun, people everywhere would be shooting each other up like crazy. Everyone would live in fear and practically no one would be safe. What would be stopping someone from walking out into the street and shooting at everything and everybody in sight, just for the hell of it? Nothing whatsoever.

I'm sorry, but letting every person own a gun is an awful, awful idea.

Read this: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/162/tn_16235.ht ml

That ought to help you out a bit. Now, if you don't want to install Quicktime, you're going to have to obtain an MP3 with a bitrate that's lower than 160kbps. I believe it's possible to convert the MP3 with a higher bitrate into one with a lower bitrate by using Audacity. I don't have much experience with the software, but I'm sure there are guides and tutorials all over the Internet.

also when i put in a sound file into the animation that last longer than 3 seconds it goes out of sync so i cant make an animation that goes with a song. But when i press ENTER to watch it , it plays fine but when i publish it, it goes out of sync and the longer it playes the worse it gets.

Sorry, I don't have much experience with syncing up audio and animation...

And lastly when i press ENTER to watch it the sound will keep on playing even if the animation is over or i stop it. any ideas?

You may want to crop the sound so that it ends when the animation ends. Not only will you not have to worry about the sound continuing to play, you'll also end up with a smaller .swf file. You can do that very easily by opening the sound file in Audacity. Highlight the portion of the sound you don't want, just as if you were highlighting text. Then, press the Delete key on your keyboard and the highlighted portion should be deleted. (This is how it works on Windows; it may be different on a Mac, but I don't use one so I wouldn't know.)

Hope this helps! :)

Do you know the difference between There, They're and Their?

A. Yes I do good sir. - It looks much better if the right version is used in the right place, but if someone messes them up, it doesn't bother me.

While we are on the subject do you know the difference between Your and You're? Its and It's?

A. Yes I do. - See above.

Do you speak just how you type?

A. I generally try to. - I tend to use contractions, and words like "gonna," "wanna," and the like when I talk, and that's how I type, too.

Part 2: Judgment
Do you judge a person by age?

A. Depends on the person, but I understand that some underage people can be slightly immature and that is okay because they are growing and learning. - Yeah, pretty much.

Part 3: Attention Span
Do you read through every topic before you post?

A. I usually do, or at least skim through them to where I can get the point. I at least read through the whole first page. - Uh-huh.

Do you feel the need to post in a topic that you have no interest in?

C. I post very little as it is... - I generally only post if I have something good and contributory to say. Simple as that.

Part 4: Moderators
How do you treat the moderators?

A. With respect. - The same way I treat every user.

If a moderator bans you how do you initially react?

A. Well, guess I won't do that again. - It really depends on the situation. I've personally never been banned or had a topic that I started get locked, but it sometimes seems like topics are locked for no good reason. Certain Photoshop topics, for example.

But I don't have any experience with bans, so I can't really answer properly.

Part 5: Trolls
Someone is being an obvious troll and you...

A. Ignore it unless it's just funny to play along. - They're usually not funny, though. By ignoring them, you deprive them of the attention they seek, which causes them to stop.

Part 6: Relationships
Someone has an obvious relationship problem...

A. I offer the best advice I can give and wish him/her luck. - I don't have much relationship experience, so I'm not really qualified to give advice. But if I was, this is what I'd do.

Someone has a relationship problem and is being just a little whiny about it...

A. Tell him to calm down and that he'll forget his problems later down the road. - It's almost always true.

Part 7: Final and Random Questions.
You see a girl post on the forum do you...

A. Welcome her. - I'd treat her like anyone else.

/b/ is...

C. What? - I've been to /b/ a couple of times, out of curiosity. It seems like nothing more than harmless fun, at least at a glance. If people are enjoying it and it doesn't affect you, why complain about it and slap stigmatizing labels on those people? Weird.

How to score:

Mostly A's and some C's: Somewhat Apathetic Intellectual; Half and Half: Non-caring Intellectual

Wow! That really does describe me very accurately!

This is a very well thought out test; well done!

I don't use drugs, inhalants, or anything like that because they can be very detrimental to your health; plus, they cost money. Sure, those sorts of things may make you feel good or look cool, but I prefer to search for other things to make myself happy that don't take a toll on my health or my wallet.

The whole "being cool" thing is very odd to me. I'm not comfortable molding my personality and actions into a shape that others will approve of just to gain "cool points." If some guy disapproves of my interests and he's clearly not being affected by them, then that's fine and dandy; I don't care.

But everybody reacts differently to peer pressure, and everyone values their time, health, and money in different ways. So you have lots of people inhaling stuff and smoking stuff and whatnot. Not that there's anything wrong with that. But I don't do it for reasons I already mentioned.

I'm an American, and I have to agree with this. The metric system is far more sensible and intuitive than the imperial system. Everything is based on powers of ten.

In the imperial system:
12 inches = 1 foot
3 feet = 1 yard
5280 feet = 1 mile
16 ounces = 1 pound
2000 pounds = 1 ton

What's with all the different names and numbers?

In the metric system:
1000 milligrams = 1 gram
1000 grams = 1 kilogram
1000 kilograms = 1 megagram
1000 milliliters = 1 liter
1000 liters = 1 kiloliter

This is far superior. It's so much easier to remember and implement. Why America has refused to switch over for so long is beyond me.

An Originailty Award - Given to the most original flash idea. (Obviously)

Yes!

I was just thinking about this idea, and was going to make a topic about it until I came across this.

But it is a bit of a debatable award and I'm not sure of the amount of original/unoriginal content that does go through the portal every week/month.

Just wanna get some comments on the subject, what do you guys think?
Would an originality award be sufficent?

There's a huge number of video game parodies, sprite movies, and the like on NG. Not that there's anything wrong with Flash movies or games of that caliber.

It bothers me, though, when such movies beat out more original content and get more exposure as a result. This commonly happens in the monthly best lineup, and I think an originality award is a great idea that could give overlooked high-quality, original content the respect it deserves.

But of course, there's the burning question: How would originality be judged?

Here's one idea I've come up with: An originality score. It would work just like the standard zero-to-five scoring system. People could vote on a submission based on the quality of its art, animation, sound, and the like; and they could also vote on how original they feel the submission is.

A sprite movie based on a video game would probably end up with a low originality score, whereas a movie with original art and an original plot thought up solely by its creators would have a higher originality score. At the end of each day, week, and month, the most original submissions, as judged by the voters, receive awards.

How about that?

I don't mean to offend anyone who thinks this bed is awesome, but I think it's a load of crap. Sure, it floats; that's cool and all. But it's not so different from sleeping on a normal bed, is it? Whether your bed floats or not, you're still sleeping above the ground. When you get up and out of it, you're still gonna have to put your feet on the floor. I don't see how I could benefit more from from buying this (probably very expensive) thing than I would from buying a non-levitating bed.

And what is it, a slab of metal? Doesn't sound very cozy to me.

That's just my opinion though. If you're into rigid, floating beds and you've got money to burn, hell why not go for it?
