I haven't done a proper movie for about 2/3 years. I do remember the first movie I made (NY Trailer Trash) was born with a 'bought' copy of Macromedia Flash 2003. Long since deleted, mind.

Triply hilarious because when this was found out on CAD BBS, Buckley nuked that forum off the face of the web. Bans all around. Paranoia much. Then again, that Dramapatrol blog link already tells you most of this.

I find it funny how much an anime fun will stress how much variety of style there is in the anime industry - and yet whenever there's 'anime'-esque fanart of a show it's always done in the same old stereotypical dinner-plate-eyed, fucked-anatomy, KAWAII DESU NE fashion.

You'd think for an industry whose origins were the result of a mangaka inspired by Walt Disney, there'd be a lot less homogenization. For every Akagi or One Piece, there's a dozen card-battle cartoons and moeblob-maid fanservicefests.

At 4/21/08 04:32 PM, BMack24 wrote: i don't see why everyone's making a big deal over it being made with sprites. if it's entertaining, who cares how it's made?

As we said earlier, sprite movies have a reputation for being very, very bad - which precedes the concept of SMBZ. It's like when people groan every time they hear Uwe Boll is making another film, and someone asks "What's the big deal? If its entertaining, who cares whos directing it?".

It's also a combination of two franchises - Mario and Sonic - which to some is fulljoy overload and to others is cynical manipulation of the fanbases. Lord knows quite a few of us are guilty of trying to cram lots of different products into one movie or game to try and gain e-popularity - Alvin just took two of the more notoriously fan-backed products and meshed them together. With sprites. And succeeded.

The fact that the end result was of a tremendous level of quality made the whole ordeal worse - while people are quick to forget about Generic Crossover Sprite Movie #345, Alvin (ALLLLLLLVIIIIIIIIIIIIIIN) made 6 of these things (and an intended intro) with a coherent continuity. Thus, the fans got hungry for more and the flamers got angrier.

In before "WE JUST WASTED 6 PAGES SAYING THAT, DUMBASS".

I always felt that SMBZ was part of the... what... 5%? The 5% of all sprite movies that were actually above decent. Like sticks of chocolate in a festering swamp of shit.

Sucks that he pussied out in such a dramafag manner, but what can you do. He said it himself - people didn't +Watch him for his art, they did it for more SMBZ. He knew what he was getting into and bombed out.

I think sprites are a valid artform if they're created by the artist for the movie, instead of ripping spritesheets. Comparing Alvin to FBF flash artists is a bit unfair in that respect.

This thread... nah, too easy.

If the thread being hijacked is a piece of shit and the new thread is funny, then I don't see the problem. Sometimes people make hijacks related to the thread anyway (hello bento boxes), sometimes people change the subject completely for shits and giggles.

You don't like it? Get a promotion.
