Fuzzy logic there, for you see, our opposable thumbs allow us to create. Man is here to create. Machines are an extension of humanity.

U2 - The Sweetest Thing Posted November 13th, 2008 in General

Now, I had always thought that they had wrote one good song and only one good song - The Sweetest Thing.

For years I was amazed at how such a terrible band could write such a good melody. I have finally discovered the answer.

Hum the first few bars to yourself

and this would seem to be where they stole the tune from

Now we can all rest, knowing that U2 are shit.

I don't buy newspapers. My dad likes to read the Daily Record. Not in line with his views (he's a Socialist), but that's what he likes to take. While it's great to be informed, life is depressing enough without having to read of the latest murders.

It isn't just about the economy, it's about the skill of work. The economic system relys on a good position of work for every sector, primary, secondary and tertiary. I believe we can train up workers abroad cheaply, but come on - let's be honest. The BNP are racist, they are prejudice against immigrants and use current problems with immigration to cover up their act.

Well, I would say that our economic system doesn't rely on much, we are a service sector country. Really, it would be quite hard for my party or your party to transform the country, but I think it would be worth it. I'm no Economist, but when the busts hit, countries that have almost no industry, well, they're royally screwed.

As far as I've seen from comments from John Tyndall and Nick Griffin, they don't want zilch immigration, but more restraints. That's fine to me. I believe that a culture will cease to be if there are millions of people coming in that are doing so out of economic incentive and not a love for the culture. What I don't want to see is the entire world becoming America and sadly, I think it will. The BNP are about far more than race though and really, they are just a Conservative party and they do eject members who are found to be racist (although many will resign). I understand that you don't want to see the world become America either and your solution is different from mine and I do applaud you for being politically active, although seeing as you are politically active against the current system, I have to hope that they don't try and oppress you for doing so. The only reson I will not become politically active, is that it would hurt my girlfriends' career.

"On 14 December 2004, Nick Griffin was arrested on suspicion of incitement to racial hatred, relating to a BBC documentary broadcast in July 2004, in which he was recorded at Morley Town Hall"

Yes, I know he has been arrested and even served a small sentence.

Oh and my god, I wander why they would want free speech without any limits. And just look at the history of the BNP. For anyone considering voting for the BNP here is a nice picture of when the BNP was first founded:

I am aware that John Tyndall was a National Socialist years before founding the BNP, but I do believe that he changed. Many people do change their ideologies over time and National Socialism only relates to the national character of one country. Really, I don't think National Socialists have a good idea either with making a homeland for one race. I don't think that could possibly work. I would like to say that I know it wouldn't, but that would be arrogant of me.

The BNP have Jewish members. They are quite hated for it amoungst far-right groups. In fact, I've been told that they are "Jewish puppets" by a "National Socialist" on this site.

Judging by that picture, that isn't the current BNP, for there have been 2 different BNPs, one in the 60s and one in the 80s.

Even if the government wanted to slow immigration,m they would have to move out of Europe, no mainstream party will do this and the majority of immigration actually comes from Europe.

If either of them win, this will be hilarious. I am going to vote for the BNP. I think Brown will win again though, or, at least, Labour will win more seats in Scotland.

The next elections, however, are European elections.

"Weird Al" Yankovic - Bad Hair Day

"Weird Al" Yankovic is best known for his Parodies. In the 12 tracks here, there are 5 of these on this record (Amish Paradise, Cavity Search, Gump, Syndicated Inc. & Phony Calls), 1 of his trademark Polkas (The Alternative Polka) and the remaining 7 are originals. It is often said that Al's (if I may call him Al) original work is inferior to his Parodies and while this may or may not be true, on this record, his originals match up to the strength of his Parodies.
The album starts off with a Parody of Coolio's classic Gangsta Rap track Gangster's Paradise (it is the aforementioned Amish Paradise). The subject matter is inverted and it becomes an ode to the Amish way of life. While religion is often an easy target for jokes, the choral pieces of the original and the inverted subject matter makes it a stellar Parody and it is clear to sere why this opens off the album.
Following this is the synth-happy ditty Everything You Know Is Wrong. While the song is more random than funny and it sounds dated for a song from 1994, it has a certain undescribeable whimsy charm - so I shan't describe it.
Al then takes us away from the lunacy of the previous manic synth-bop-fest and into anthemic territory with the U2 Parody Cavity Search. The problem with making U2 mundane is that U2 manage that quite fine on their own. It's got some nice ideas in it, with dentist drills (which WILL make your friends shudder) and the song even rounds off with Muzak, making it more of an aural journey than a song.
Following this is the Grunge "style-parody" Callin' In Sick. I use quotations because a humerous song in a musical genre is not a parody and if it sends up the style itself, it is a Pastiche. This is neither, it is a humerous Grunge song, that is all and it is a pity that Al degrades himself by using the term himself. The song, sadly, matches Grunge well, because it is about boredom. Our hero(?) has called into work sick, but he seems to have duller ideas for his day than work itself. After this, The Alternative Polka takes us through his usual tried and true formula of Polka, they are all pretty much interchangeable and although this is one of my favourite ones, sending up the angst of Alternative Rock, it's really cookie-cutter stuff (well, for Al anyway).
Now is where, well, the album subsides a bit. Gump is a terrible mockery of a terrible mockery of a song. Well, that's a bit harsh, but it's the second worst song here, I DO have a soft spot for "goofy" artists. I'm So Sick Of You follows and it's a pretty funny Rock song about breaking up. I Remember Larry is FANTASTIC, there is a neat little idden message backmasked into it and it is one of the funnier songs here, a Novelty song more than a Comedy song, it tells us about the evils of the local practical joker.
Phony Calls is quite terrible, but, then again, so were TLC. The Simpsons excerpts or voice re-enactments by Nancy Cartwright and Hank Azaria are quite terrible. I suspect it is the second, as I can't remember Bart crooning terribly and too high-pitched "Listen to me". It's far too slick, it's not funny and it's borderline annoying. This leaves us with a final track and judging by Phony Calls, it's going to suck major goats.
BUT IT DOESN'T! For you see, the final song on this lovely little record is a Christmas song called The Night Santa Went Crazy. The title tells you all you have to know about the song.

4/5

No it wouldn't. The man goes back in time, HE GOES BACK, time carries on. He says "Hi" to himself (but no-one would be stupid enough to do this). Timeline B is created, where there is almost no difference to timeline A. TImeline B would allow for him to say "Hi" and to go back in time with no effects carried on.

Really, it's not hard to understand.

And time would still carry on into the future. Time doesn't stop just because one person travels back.

If the person of the past DOESNT go to the past in the future the future him could never have said hi to him thus the whole scenario could never have happened creating a paradox.

There is no such thing as a paradox. "Paradoxes" are merely the lack of understanding. It is obvious that a parallel timeline would be created.

No. Most "new" movements aren't new at all. Grime, for one, that is merely Garage House being rapped over, you will find that this will have been done before the movement. Sit down with an instrument, make a tune, I guarantee you that it's been done and recorded. All that is left is sampler pirating and covers.

And when you consider all the words in all the different languages, with new people inventing words all the time, then there is an opportunity to create something without having a lawsuit landed on you. All you need is the power and confidence within yourself to create it.

Same song, different words, it's still not original.

Architecture Posted October 29th, 2008 in General

There are many art threads on Newgrounds. Usually revolving around film and animation, but music is often discussed too. I don't see much discussion about architecture though.

My favourite would be Brutalism. Often the buildings are blocky and unfriendly. I think they have a Ballardian sense of bauty about them. Second place goes to Futurism.

What is your favourite type?
