So... great performance, but I don't think I'm a fan.

Well I understand where you're coming from, but that's just sort of the point of this particular piece, that by ripping out the cable within himself he's sort of short-circuiting and jumping between trains of thought sporadically. This is really his only poem like this, you can see another amazing (and more cohesive) example of his work here:
Joan of Arcadia (Original)
Joan of Arcadia (Remix)
Joan of Arcadia (Live)

Read what in my head? Watch the video I posted, the energy and delivery is what makes the poem so fantastic. Reading something like that in my head could not compare to the impact of his performance.

I'm all for reading poems, but written poems and spoken word are two different things, and good spoken word will be incredibly enhanced by a good delivery.

That happens to me every once in awhile, it's a really cool feeling. It happens to me a lot when I'm listening to music on shuffle and I start to think of a song I want to hear as one song ends, then lo and behold, the song I wanted to hear pops up next!

I love spoken word poetry, well when it's done right anyway. There's a lot of awsome stuff out there, so I was wondering what other people thought about it? Do you like it? And if so, what are some of your favorite poems/who are your favorite performers?

What brings on this question is this video of B. Dolan performing "Still Electric." This performance, to me, is stunning. I've heard the version on his album with music backing it, but this raw version seems to convey so much more energy and emotion, and the way it's performed is very unique. I think anyone who likes poetry at all should watch that video.

Twilight fucking sucks ass, but to be fair, the original vampires didn't have fangs. However I don't think Twilight did away with the fangs because they knew that, I think it's just because they're ignorant to anything a vampire should be, truthfully or stereotypically.

Fuck Twilight.

Topic: Best singing voice?

Posted: 11/18/09 07:28 AM

Forum: General

It's a simple and straight-forward question: Who, in your opinion, has the best singing voice?

For me it's a tie between two people, one you may know, the other I'm guessing you don't (But you should!).

The first and more known is Matthew Bellamy from Muse. He just has such great range and his voice fits perfectly with the music that they play, it's awsome. :D

The second is Shael Riley, who I had the pleasure of hanging out with a little over a week ago at Nerd Invasion. He's a great guy and is an incredibly talented singer. Here's a video from his performance last week.

He also put out his first album, Toybox, for free! You can get it here.

Alright, so who are your favorite singers? :)

I saw that awhile back, really awsome. I actually might attempt to build it this year. I always say I will, but never really do... But just maybe this year. We can all make one and post pictures up on here! :D

Also: SCORE! The Walmart by my house made some sort of mistake when labeling prices, and as a result 12-packs of all Pepsi products were only $1.50. You better believe I stocked up on Mountain Dew. :)

Though due to the fact that they fucked up they were only allowing a minimum of four per person. Luckily that's easy to dodge by buying four, leaving, getting four more, and going to a different register... ^_^

Topic: My new fitness plan

Posted: 11/16/09 05:50 AM

Forum: General

Basically I fell out of the habit of working out about a year ago after losing a bunch of weight. Now that I've started to become aware of that weight coming back I've decided not to let it happen, and to get back into the routine of working out daily.

Then I had a thought, why just think of it as a monotonous workout routine? I can make this more awsome than that.

Thus was born, my personal Fitness RPG.

The concept is simple:

Gamers like to level up.

It's something a true gamer will push towards no matter what. It's always one more level, just a little more EXP, one more quest and we're done... But we're never done until we win it all.

So why limit that to just games? If we take that sort of determination and apply it to real life, maybe it'll make monotonous and otherwise boring tasks of work more interesting and fun to partake in.

Perhaps it's silly, perhaps it's stupid, but I'm willing to give it a try just to see what it's like. That's why I'm taking it upon myself to create a level system based on how much I exercise. The more I do, the more EXP I gain for my character, the more I'll level. Plus I'll be exercising. Win-win, right?

I'm still working it out, but here's a rough beginning of something that'll hopefully be awsome. :D

Yeah, I've restocked as well, plus I had a four day weekend which is pretty cash. Anyone drink AMP? It's an energy drink made from the guys who created Mountain Dew. It's one of the few energy drinks I'll enjoy every so often.

I don't really care for it. I mean it's good and all, but essentially just tastes like a sweeter Mountain Dew. It's too expensive for me to just drink though, and I have so much caffeine in my body I've literally built up a tolerance to most energy drinks, so there's really no point.

Well actually I only know a couple of people there, I would be going there WITH my best friend, and we would just kinda be figuring it out from there.

Well if I'm going to be paying money for rent anyway, why not just get my own place? I don't know, this way would be the cheapest method to keep everyone happy I'm sure.

On one hand I'm not spending as much money, but I still need to move out at some point anyway.

On the other hand I'm spending a lot of money and have much more responsibilities, but I'll be out on my own.

The thing is I pretty much have the entire basement of this house to myself all the time, and I can do whatever I want 24/7, which is nice. I like to blast music all night, which would probably be a problem in an apartment.

So as of late my parents have been pushing for me to move out, and really I don't think it's all too bad of an idea. I mean I love having a free place to stay, and I've taken advantage of that for a long time, but at a certain point you've just gotta leave and do your own thing.

Obviously it'll take a lot more work than I'm currently doing, as I'll have to cover more expenses. At present I don't even own a car, and I just have one part time job where I don't really get much hours.

So if I move out, I would almost certainly need either a second or just a new job.

Now here's where things get tricky: I was thinking about moving out of state, to Pennsylvania specifically. Possibly with my best friend, which would help because I would have someone to figure stuff out with, and also someone to split costs with.

I don't really know much about just up and moving out, especially when it comes to going out of state. Does this seem realistic? Or am I going to try it and instantly regret it?

I went an entire weekend without Mountain Dew. ARRrghrhrhgrgrgh.

It's okay though. I was at Nerd Invasion, a sweet nerdcore convention in Florida. They had free Bawls... And I like free things that normally cost a lot of money. Bawls is pretty good too, the cherry flavor is the best. I must have drank like 40 cans of it.

Plus Florida sucks, it's hard as hell to find ANY green drinks. Every restaurant just had like... Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, and Root Beer. Those were the options. No Mountain Dew. Not even a shitty version like Mello Yello or Vault. Nothing!

If you could all go and vote for me here it would be greatly appreciated! The deadline for voting is midnight tonight, so I could really use some help.

If I win the vote I'll be in the finals for sure, where I'll compete on stage in Florida for a shot at the label.

It would mean a ton to me if you could help out. :3 <3

TL;DR: Go vote for me here, please!

Awesome! How did you do the calculations? I would like to try this.

I pretty much just figured the average. For the past month or two I haven't even bothered with anything but 2-liters, and I figure I go through about 15-20 per week, which averages out to about 15$ because they're always between $1.00 and $1.50 at Walmart.

I have trouble finishing off one 2 liter these days, I used to drink two all the time though. Maybe I should start working on that again and stuff. I'm enjoying something I rarely indulge in - a 2 liter of Live Wire.

Damn, I haven't had Live Wire in awhile... I wanna get some! I've been sticking strictly to original, and the occasional Baja Blast from Taco Bell. Damn that stuff is good!
