Everything on your main timeline should be inside a movie clip called 'main' or something similar. Then, 'main' should be the only thing on your main timeline, 1 clip, 1 frame, on 1 layer. When you export your movie, it'll play straight through...just make sure the 'main' clip is aligned to the stage properly so it looks right when you test your movie.

A survey would be a good idea, yes...the only reason we were solid on Metal Gear was because:

A - Every game has been an incredibly popular best seller, and it seemed pretty popular here on NG. We actually thought it was a unique idea, and a nice change of pace from your standard, expected game-related submissions.

2 - We really thought the community would be down due to the virtually unlimited parody material and wide array of unique characters that could be used by both fans AND those unfamiliar with the game. I mean popularity aside, I personally don't care for the Metal Gear series, but I still had like 50 ideas and thought it might be fun to make something.

Tres - Metal Gear Solid 4 is coming out soon, and the collab would be released just before it. MGS4 is highly anticipated, and marks the end of the Metal Gear franchise. Thought they'd kinda go hand in hand since most people are amped for the game anyways.

Plus, most Metal Gear submissions that people make for NG are generally well accepted. I personally figured that people would feel more inclined to make a Metal Gear Flash if something was organized, as opposed to randomly making one, which people rarely think to do. You know, really sweep up and pull together something ultimate that no other site would have, and really give people a chance to cover all the shit that hasn't been done before. That's all pipe dreaming, though.

ANYWHO, I've been trying to work some sort of polling feature back into NG for a while now and nothing ever comes of it. I feel as if polls could really help us out when it comes to feedback on all sorts of shit, so we'll see.

...or we could just cut the bullshit and just do these in repeated order so everyone can be comfortable and happy:

MARIO COLLAB
FINAL FANTASY COLLAB
SONIC COLLAB

But I gotta warn you...I won't be making a piece for the Zelda one, as I've never played a Zelda game before and don't even know where I'd start. And man you know, Street Fighter 4 is out soon, and I was really getting amped to make some shit for a mega-Street Fighter collab...but now I fear that it'll crash and burn harder than the World Trade Center. AWWW TOO LATE? Anyway, yeah...probably gonna scrap that one.

BUT ANYWAYS. To step back for a second - this didn't spark because nobody is submitting anything and MGS isn't popular...that's really not the case. We've gotten a hundred submissions or so by this point. The problem is an overall lack of thought and effort in the majority of them...and when I say 'thought' and 'effort', I'm not being Mr. Preachy Bigdicks who demands amazing things from the community, oh no, no, no. It's just really hard not to get pissed when you waste your your entire day downloading and publishing garbage...and just when you think shit can't get any worse, you get an entry that's, literally, a 1 frame drawing of a gear with a bandana on it. I SHIT YOU NOT.

Yeah, a great deal of people are claiming to avoid the collab because they've never played the games...despite us clearly saying "Your submission doesn't have to revolve around the Metal Gear plot/story, so long as it's Metal-Gear related in general (uses MGS characters, themes, gimmicks, etc.)". I'd prefer it if people were just straight up and said they didn't feel like making one.

For example - I know very little about Transformers, but I still managed to make something for Blamformers, as I WANTED to. All I did was use the characters to make it apply. A Metal Gear submission would take absolutely no effort, here watch, I'll help somebody out and write a script really fast off the top of my head:

That GOLDEN script doesn't require having played any of the games - just a quick glance at character art and the knowledge we've given you. You can't tell me that everyone draws blank ideas by staring at pictures of AN UNHAPPY MAN WHO OBVIOUSLY CONTROLS HORNETS, THIS FAT EXPLOSIVES EXPERT ON ROLLERBLADES NAMED FATMAN (FOR SERIOUS) or THIS NINJA CYBORG...will not purchase it. It would take all of 10 seconds of thought, 2 minutes of research, and the rest up to effort.

And New999, get death you sensitive ass queer. Everything I said was (although blunt) completely necessary and true...I have never seen such an epic failure from the community before. So far this collab has been an absolute disaster that we regret more and more as the deadline draws closer. There, I said it. Here's a few tips:

1. STOP SENDING CARDBOARD BOX JOKES. PLEASE. AGAIN, IN CASE YOU SOMEHOW OVERLOOKED WHAT I JUST SAID, STOP SENDING US CARDBOARD BOX JOKES. PLEASE.

2. If you're not going to try then don't bother sending us a piece. We seriously expected more from the community on this one. I mean, I know I sound like a pretentious asshole and all, but JESUS. No, seriously, on a 1 - 10 scale - lets say Blamformers is a 10, just for shits, right - well this collab is precariously teetering back and forth on top of a 1. I have never, in my ENTIRE time here at NG, seen so many poor, lazy, WORTHLESS submissions in such great quantity. It's absolutely MINDBLOWING. Seriously, if we released this 'collab' right now with all the best pieces, it'd be 2 minutes long and most people would cut it off halfway through.

I never really understood what was so cool about the cardboard boxes. I maybe used it twice while playing MGS3. I ordered the MGS: Essential Edition off of Amazon before I got MGS4, so maybe Snake will use the box in the older games.

Yeah, he uses boxes in all of the PS2 games. As for PSP, I'm not sure - but most likely, since every MG title more or less re-uses every gameplay idea from the first release.

To be honest, we'd just love to see shit that:

1. Isn't a cardboard box joke. The gimmick is getting played out, real fast...

2. Involves characters other than Snake. There's a ton of other characters in the series that have a lot of potential. At this moment, Utah is really the only one I've seen who's most likely not going to use Snake, so his submission might look out of place if others don't do the same.

3. Doesn't use the MGS theme song, if it's constantly used as a background song, it'll get pretty annoying during the collaboration. The soundtracks have tons of music and ambient tracks you could choose from.

I hope people read this...

Lemme clear some shit up. I wouldn't know where to begin with a 360 theme. My guess it that not only would it be incredibly difficult, but I'd have to suck a lot of dicks just to get it RELEASED...worse yet, released for people to BUY it. Nobody should ever have to buy a promotional theme, or a custom icon of the tank logo, or anything related...but whatever. Aside from that, I really wouldn't want to spend weeks navigating through the 360's slow, clunky interface and learning the ins and outs of a machine I've stopped using and caring about - all to customize the fraction I'm allowed to touch. The PS3 guys practically handed us a set of clear instructions and compiling programs that made this process irresistibly easy and fun to work with. There's a ton of shit you can customize, and a lot of new options around the corner (expect a MEGA HOT UPDATE ON THIS THEME). Plus, all these themes are freely distributed and easy to install, so why the fuck not.

Secondly...I'm pretty sure the Wii doesn't allow themes. PSP does, though...I think...but it's been a hot minute since I've used mine. I'll crack it open and see what's what. EITHER WAY, none of these consoles are the topic of discussion here...SO CRAM IT, FAGS.

Me and Utah just busted ass for a few days (MORE LIKE A WEEK AND A HALF) to bring you PS3 users a SEXUALLY HOT NEW NG PS3 THEME! The theme includes five new/remastered wallpapers (randomized on boot/log-in) and a ton of custom icons, cursors, and other stuff. The icon style is based around the tank logo (all black/white) so they go pretty well with most backgrounds if you'd prefer to use a different one. ANYWAY...

Idiot-Proof Installation - (Make sure you have the latest firmware installed, then choose one of these two methods.)

Method 1 (VIA PS3): Hop on your PS3, scroll over to NETWORK, go down and start up your INTERNET BROWSER. In the browser, hit START to enter a web address, and enter http://www.cockbomb.com/ngps3 - you'll get a page with a friendly little message. Hit the orange link with the (X) button, and it'll start auto-downloading/installing (to 'PHOTO', most likely). After the download is done, simply run over to SETTINGS > THEME SETTINGS > THEME and the NEWGROUNDS theme should be installed and ready to rock. Thanks to Mike for giving me some tips on making THAT miracle work.

Method 2 (VIA COMPUTER > PS3): If you have a little USB FlashDrive (or something similar), jack it into your computer and open it up. Create a folder, name it PS3. Create another folder INSIDE the PS3 folder, name it THEME. Right click here and save the NEWGROUNDS.p3t file into the THEME folder you just made. Once downloaded, un-jack your device, plug it into your PS3, and go to SETTINGS > THEME SETTINGS > THEME, and up to INSTALL. Find your device, hit the (X) button, and NEWGROUNDS should automatically be located. Hit (X) again to install the theme - once installed, it'll take you back to the main listing. From here, you can go back into THEME and load the NG theme.

Pretty sure I got that right...should be easy enough! We hope ya' dig it. As for you 360 users...I...I'm sorry. I'm sure you can find plenty of themes and wallpapers in the marketplace, though...JUST MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A FEW HUNDRED OF YOUR PRECIOUS, FAG-ASS XBOX TOKENS HANDY LMAO.
