The vibe here was set a long time ago. I figure using common sense - but most importantly, understanding the context of people's posts and actions without being so hardcore is the key. This forum is practically a form of recreation, it should be stress level 0 type shit. Keep it casual, check shit out, laugh, ask something, learn something, make a friend, beast a competition, draw some tits, get a snack, jerk off, and go to bed happy. In that order. And let us know how your snack n' jerk turned out (just post that nonsense in General.) It should be more than obvious when someone fucks up or steps over the line in here...you won't need to double check anything. Being a moderator is a serious pain in the ass when you consider it's a damn near full-time job for people who already have full-time jobs and lives. Keeping shit a little more casual would take a lot of the stress and panic outta that equation - mods shouldn't have to follow the rules to the letter, or need to wipe people's asses over nonsense. I figure art mods should only be tapped if you catch some douchebag plagiarizing work, or some guy opening a thread about his favorite XBOX game...you know, shit along those lines.

I know the forum can be a pain in the ass sometimes, and could use a handful of helpful tweaks and features, and we've got em' all down. Ya'll are troopers though ;_;

And Tom doesn't need to chime in - his opinion isn't required here. He has enough shit to worry about, and I'd like to think we're fully capable of handling our own problems, as we've demonstrated. So right - the rules. Jim is well aware of the rules. UNDERSTAND - the grand majority of them were created and enforced to help guide this particular forum in its EARLY stages - like everything NG, we didn't know what to expect, we feared the worst, and we didn't want it to turn into a complete shitstorm of a disaster that completely missed the point. The rules HAD to be strict. We did it for you guys, so you'd have a peaceful place to wax all artful like, and now you're screaming at each other over petty bullshit. We just wanted a place for artists to mingle, show work, ask for advice, and so forth - away from the rest of the mess. THAT'S ALL. We didn't have anywhere else to post art. Now we have the Art Portal. First post is no longer as important as it used to be, so drop all your snarky bullshit for a second and think about it.

My logic goes like this. I figure the art forum has been fully established by this point, and caters strictly to a concentrated group of artists, interested parties, and art forum regulars, as opposed to hordes of the general masses who might have abused it. It's very unpopular, but that's a good thing as it became more relevant and important in its own right...it's ALL ART RELATED now, and by this point I think we've successfully set the foundation we were gunning for in terms of what this forum expects, which will help guide future posts from the rest of the community. Think Politics - people don't go there for a reason - and not because it's boring as fuck and political opinions never matter.

See, Jim's question would have actually been encouraged in our original vision of the art forum, but it's not a perfect world - shit like this couldn't be allowed earlier on, for reasons stated. This thread was a community member + art related, and relevant to this specific group of people. It was asked with faith that the regulars here would be best suited to answer - seriously, where else would he post this? In General? It'd be wedged between "my girlfriend is a cunt >:(" and "i just farted lol" and skipped over by hundreds of people who don't know and don't care, maybe get 3 or 4 responses, then get knocked off the frontpage within an hour. I'd actually suggest he ask AN ARTIST or someone KNOWLEDGEBLE IN ART, who might hang out in the ART FORUM ALL DAY. It's only logical. I mean it's clear this thread got a lot of attention by a ton of creative people with a vast collective knowledge on the subject matter, but it's a shame that most of you spend the majority of your time here looking for opportunities to blow whistles on people than you do arting it up. Realistically, MOST of the rules around here could and should be removed, as again, the intention of this forum has been established. It's long overdue for a revision, and I personally welcome the changes. Shit, if it was up to me, I'd pull 50% of the rules around this site, and so would everyone else - and you'd be lying if you said otherwise.

Maybe as a compromise - we could do something along the lines of a little forum-wide visual that accompanies post titles (a little paperclip, perhaps) that'll let viewers know if a picture is attached to the post. Something along those lines, maybe. That way, people won't feel betrayed when they aren't immediately presented with art and have to click the back button, and people who need help can be helped by those interested. Maybe multiple post-type icons are in order? We'll talk about that. SO LONG AS IT SHUTS YOU FAGGOTS UP.
