Topic: Playstation Portable Price! Insane!

My understanding was that it presents the same graphic level of the PS1 or better.

Yes, the graphics are almost as good as PS2. Go to gamespot.com and check out a few videos of Ridge Racer. OMG that game is sexy.

The topic has gotten its share of fanboy-ocity, but the facts are still there. DS is a neat handheld, which can do some crazy things. However, the graphics are a lot worse than PSP and there aren't many good games out for it yet. PSP, though you have to shell out 100 more bucks to buy it, is launching with awesome games, like Ridge Racer and Lumines. It also has a lot more functionality than the DS, though many argue its not necessary. Just get whatever blows your skirt up. Or stop being like "THIS IS BETTER" without any explanation. I personally can wait to get a DS. I'm gonna get a PSP at launch. And 250 bucks isn't that much considering an ipod is like 300-400 dollars. I should start a thread about how overpriced the ipod is. (It's a piece of crap)

You know how many were recalled for being defective in Japan when people FIRST bought them? Imagine how many will break after a few months! Nintendo actua;;y cares on how long the system will last.

The reason they recalled them in Japan was because the square button would sometimes get stuck under the plastic, a defect that Sony fixed for free. They also said the problem was solved for the PSP being sold in North America. PSP may start slow because of its high price, but in the end it will triumph over the DS because of the games it'll put out (more good games than Nintendo, even though Nintendo's games may be better) and its sheer visual advantage over the DS. (Look at the screenshots. The games and the handheld itself are beautiful)

btw what's this guy talking about? >

Check out some tutorials and browse the flash forum. If you can figure out director, you should be able to pick up flash pretty quickly

I appreciate the support, especially after the verbal bashing i took here. Perhaps it's time to broaden my horizons.

Well, if you have flash, you can use the same art and remake it in flash. You would have to write all new code for it and that would be a bitch, but thats the only solution that I can think of.

Yeah, it would help if i knew how to do in Flash what i know how to do in Director.

I wonder why people are making fun of you? I've never seen any games around here!

Am i retarded to think that if i want to watch a flash movie, i'd go to the flash portal, but if i wanted to specifically play a flash game, i'd go to the GAMES category? I know the Flash Portal has games, but isn't the GAMES portal more appropriate if you're looking for them? It doesn't matter. I've accepted that unless the game's a SWF it's not going up.

Thats not necessarily true. My game is a shockwave and is only about 1.1 megs. It depends on how compressed it is.

That's right. PSP rocks the DS. Anyone who has read up or seen the two being compared would know that.

I guess you have a point. I guess i'm just bitter that i can't turn my game into a SWF. I just thought it would be nice to show my non-Flash game to the broad audience at NG.

I understand flash is for games. And i guess you didn't see the huge button next to the flash portal called GAMES. I'm just saying, why not accept shockwaves as well as SWFs? They're both macromedia formats.

I made a game using Macromedia Director, but i can only publish it as a shockwave file. I'd like to put it on NG, but i can only submit SWFs. Or am i mistaken? And if not, why the bash to the non-Flash? (haha that rhymes)

Forum: Flash

I don't know. Director seems a lot easier to use to me, though i was taught how to use it in a summer course i took. Maybe it was easy for me cause i have experience working with code, which Director seems to be more reliant on. I can't make heads or tails of Flash.

PS. Myst was made using Director? i didn't know that. Hell, I could make Myst in like a week if i knew how to render 3D environments.

Yeah i doubt any of those are close to what ps3's gonna look like. Most of them are drawn with MS Paint anyway. As for what the one guy said, XBox 2 (it had better not be called xbox 360) is coming out first, which will give it a huge advantage (even though it may be less powerful) just like the ps2 did when it released earlier than the competition. The way things are going, Nintendo's gonna be the first console-maker to die unless they change their business strategy.

Forum: Where is / How to?

Thx to Denvish for redirecting me here.

Personally, i would be happy if just the Audio Portal experienced this kind of change. This might be a pain in the ass for the admins, but i think it would be cool if they or someone(s) they deem worthy could look through the submitted stuff and give it a "NG Score" or something, along with the average user score. Since I have seen (and experienced) the bad rating habits of NG users, i think having an score given by someone trustworthy would be a great resource, and something serious users could respect. There are too many crappy and not enough good audios in the 4-5 range, and the good ones down in the 2-3 range are never heard.

Although it would be a pain in the ass for the guys in charge of the site, the Audio Portal could be a much more respectable place if the mods could go through and give the stuff a "Mod Rating" or something. All it takes is a few jerks to give something a 0 and the song is at the bottom of the list. I've heard some awesome songs in the 2-3 range and terrible ones near a 5. Just a thought.

PS. Check out my stuff if you get the chance.

My friend's brother had a t-shirt with ALF on it. He was holding up a sponge and was saying "Sponges Suck". I thought it was quite funny.

Am I the only one who likes Macromedia Director better than Flash? Maybe it's cause I know how to use Director and can barely make a square move across the screen in Flash.

Topic: Question about music submitting

Posted: 02/23/05 09:04 PM

Forum: General

The audio submission section says that I can't submit loops made from existing songs. I've made a lot of video game song adaptations as practice, meaning I've made my own version of a copyrighted song. Does the rule refer to submitting the actual version of a song, or am I allowed to submit a version made by me?
