Yeah each time you re render an mp3 to smaller it loses bits. Go from wav to a bitrate that makes it fit. ie wav -> 128, or if thats too large wav -> 96, working down til you get it.

After a while some people can tell what bitrate a recording is :) not me at the mo, ears shot to shit from playing enemy territory. Theres nothing quite as bad for your ears as straining to hear someone, then getting a nice loud gunshot in the ear.

You dont care to elaborate? I'll explain my reasoning for that then. Back in the day of midi on websites, before mp3's were available/popular, you used to get cheesy midi music. Since midi means nothing on its own, it must have gone through a synthesiser to give the sound.

Now, when writing a midi track for a softsynth, it does fuck all without a synthesiser.

Ergo, midi is what software synths run off, or we're you going to say, no, they need electricity, and some radon for the monitor, and some food for the person inputting the data?

Please explain to me how a software synthesiser could work without the electrical punch tape for it.

By no means am i saying that you are, or that you arent. I dont know you, and this is mostly nothing to do with me. I'm tryin to help people see - why would you selling tracks be a bad thing? Even if you did keep all the money, someone saying NO will not make a difference as others will say yes. Personally i'd buzz off my tracks being for sale, it'd make me laugh (no i'm not contributing, i've only just started writing my own and my remixes are not licensed for sale) (that and all my tracks on NG are shite anyway, which is convenient as its the only protection against 0 voters)

Also, if you did make money, its not like they're actually losing anything, it'd just be moody people being moody cos they didnt make anything. To ensure fairness tho, i'm still with the idea of a legally binding contract between you and the artists, and also an independent seller, just to put everyones minds at rest. Maybe that site covers the independent seller bit, but what i mean is, all involved would have to be able to see how many you sell, not only you would have access to that info.

Yeah sometimes if you get the wrong distortion on the bass it sounds muddy as hell, which means you'll be needing VERY cutting drums.

I dont know how much effects and shit are allowed, but -ac-, if you want a rough distortion, you know all you gotta do is put it through a smaller amp than usual, and crank it up. It may fry your amp, but its up to you.

I'm by no means certain its authentic, but for a cool, unstable sound what you want is a vst prog and the superwave P8, and use the TB-303 setting. Its irritatin as hell, but cool at the same time. You can get something like 6 different soundin sequences from the same piece of midi, and thats before you say... flip channels, add effects, reverse sounds/whatever.

Shocking as it may seem, there is a large amount of people that have never even heard of newgrounds. These people tend to live in clubs and bars more than on a bbs, for example. I know they exist, but i'm yet to leave the bbs to see it for myself.

I see you're now assaulting the practicalities, and not the motives. Well i dont see any harm in the guy making a bit of cash off other peoples FREE tracks, it shows sharp business sense to me, and could be a boost to the community.

But of course, they may end up on the BBS and see us arguing like (insert age here) year olds, and just think, what utter nobheads, how did we ever think their music was good.

To those that are griping, would one track really do you any harm? I'm not sayin you shouldnt want money for it, but there is one thing more important than money : exposure. If you provide links on the cd to each artist to make it easy for people to click and go to the artists pages you like then it wouldnt be a problem.

Heres another point. You've put your tracks on the net for FREE anyway, this is a chance to get some money and exposure. I'm personally not up for contributing anything, even if i was invited for some mad reason, as i know i'm not good enough yet, but if i was i'd appreciate the exposure

If your trying to make a career, what harms in the exposure? The tracks are yours anyway, you'd need some kind of contract and an independent medium to sell them that would ensure no foul play (no offense inuyfan, but as you may know, musicians are paranoid about being robbed anyway, and it would be reassuring)

And if you arent trying to make a career, what the hell does it matter? You could make a few quid out of a hobby, for work that you've already done....

It eats midi. It runs of midi. It IS midi but ran through a more complex "decoder"

MP3 to midi, hmmmm, i really dont think it would cope with anything that wasnt a snes game type of sound, maybe some of the simpler techno that's not done on reason

(nothing against Fruity loops, but i'm yet to hear a realistic kick drum compared to reason, and i reckon the big sounds would confuse the hell out of the encoder)

If you want something more experimental - get a loop out of aphex twins "monkey drummer" OR "Mt. Saint Michel + Saint Michael's Mount remix"

(They're the same track, but he remixed the first version to get the second one)

You can make 5.1 mixes on acid pro, but as others have pointed out it wont translate well to pair'ed speakers, it will only properly work nicely on other systems that are 5.1 too.

Regarding brands. etc, i dont have a clue. BUT if the sound seems weak to you, dont get them.

Did you try resubmitting? If you did you could be in the shit, in the shit, as in banned for irritating the admins.
Also I'm not saying you did, but if you stole any of the work then you will have been banned and "your" work has not been submitted.

If its none of these things, then give it a day then contact an admin.

It depends ENTIRELY on: your budget, and whether you plan on using it live or just for recording.

If just for recording, search for stand alone synth on google, and record from your speakers back into your pc, this is if you havent got a lot of dough.

If you have a lot, you want Fruity Loops, Reason, or Acid Pro, and use the synthesisers.

For live, you'd need these and some kind of sampling machine, which isnt something i know anything about.

Or if you have a lot of cash and can find another player, then find another bassist or a hardware synth player. These are like keyboards that have bass samples, but a lot more complex

I prefer bullet to my valentine than my chemical romance, but its still pretty emo :P Nice harmonised guitars in emo tho..... shame about the cliche image they have that goths used to get ripped for (not exactly the same, but get a goth in a suit with a purple tie and you'll see what i mean)
