No problem. I can get five hours music done in 2 days. If you need more just let me know. Pay me afterwards if you think it's good enough. Or steal it like most people do.

For example.

Some guy has decided to use my music in his movie project, made for the NATA contest.
He didn't ask for permission, but he did tag the music as a source, so now both the song and the video showcase each other.
But there wasn't any sort of a system notification about this ever taking place.

I find this quite sad, because I am one of those people who LOVES it when somebody finds my work good enought for further use.

I feel the same. It'd be an improvement if you get a notification every time something of yours is used in another project. Just like when you get a notification everytime you receive a comment.

A while ago I made a thread where I said how not (not) handle musicians.

I basically summed up my bad experiences. It's still pretty much the same.

I've never been paid in candy floss before. That'd be pretty cool actually since I never got paid at all.

I'm working on a game project that's not going very well. I was told to make 10 songs, and I have made 9 so far. I've been sending e-mails every week, but never gotten direct answers to any of my questions. Last thing I heard was I was supposed to make 25 more songs, but I haven't seen anything about what they did, or what the game's supposed to be like. I therefore have put it on halt until I see some actual work from the other people. They said they would send me a demo April 20th, but guess what. Still nothing.

At the moment I'm working for someone else on a pretty interesting game project. I'm supposed to get a demo of the game today, that I have to send to other people. I really hope to get it or I will look like a fool. But I have faith... For now.

I often get kicked out of parties at peoples homes when I start youtubedjing these (somewhat obscure) songs:

For some reason those people don't appreciate chip tune either. But they aren't my actual friends. Those aren't that boring. I just crash parties a lot, where at the end of the night halve the people likes me, the other halve hates me, but everyone knows my name, and I don't their's nor do I even remember what happened. Oh well.

And btw I have plenty more where that came from.

On an unrelated note. Does anyone know if there's something like the audio portal cleanup but for the games on Newgrounds? I'm pretty sure this game has been stolen from a web comic. Many of the reviews of the game say the same thing. As a matter of fact the title page with the original author's name, release date and site, are still/again in there (I didn't notice it the first time). I'm convinced the person who posted it here is not the original creator. He posted it on deviant art and facebook too and his accounts have been deleted. As well as his youtube account. A week ago BrokenDeck removed his only uploaded song, because it wasn't his either.

This isn't the right place to address this, and I'm sorry. Neither do I say this person intends to harm others, but uploading other people's work just isn't cool, and it should at least be removed from Newgrounds.

Response to: How Much Have You Improved? Posted May 11th, 2013 in Audio

In the beginning I was really bad. Then when I learned more of the theory behind music I knew better what I was doing, got better software and equipment. Gradually I became better. But it also took me longer to finish a song. Sometimes halve a year. Nowadays I'm much faster. Sometimes I finish a song within weeks, other times in four hours. It's easier and I've gotten better at mixing. But also I care a little less. I'm less confident, I feel less the urge to do original crazy things, and I'm less of a perfectionist. Not sure if I'm better now than a few years back. I'm not as good as I want to be, and the songs turn out less well than I have in mind (but that's always been the case).

Response to: A question about composing. Posted May 9th, 2013 in Audio

When I first started to make music, I didn't know much about the theory behind it. I don't think it's absolutely necessary since you can intuitively hear what sounds good or bad. In the end that's what it's all about. If it sounds good, that means it is. Music theory can be very helpful though in understanding what you are doing, especially if you know you're doing something wrong, but you can't quite tell what it is. There are some things about music theory that really helped me a lot.

Online tutorials don't teach you much I think. A lot of it is false information, or subjective. You often need to know a lot to understand it and to be able to separate the false and subjective information from correct objective. I have a music theory book for beginners that was supposed to be very good, but hasn't taught me anything I didn't know already, yet failed to teach me the core. Taking music lessons from a teacher is much more useful. You have to show interest, ask the right questions about the things you don't know and feel are important, and hope the teacher is willing to answer and teach the right things.

One thing I think is most important in music is to know what a key is. For some reason books don't teach you that. Even my first music teacher said "Oh, you don't need to know in order to play it.". When I did made mistakes in my notation because I didn't know what key is he just said "That's not the way we write that in music" When I asked why he said "Just because. Write this instead.". I knew what to to but I didn't understand why. I think it's absolutely crucial to know what a key is. To me it was an absolute revelation when I found out. That's why I will tell you.

First of all there are 12 different notes you can use. However, most music uses only 7 per song, namely the seven of the key it is in. Whenever you hear this song is in A minor or G major, that refers to the key. When you see sheet music, you may or not find flats or sharps at the beginning. This determines the key of the song. If there are no flats or sharps at the beginning this means a song is either in A minor or C major, which are the two common keys that use the seven white keys (on a piano I mean this time) , and no black. Any sharps or flats in the rest of the notation means the notes are exceptions and are out of key (which isn't necessarily wrong).

Here's a link to the wikipedia article.

Whenever you play or write a song keep in mind what the key is, and what seven tones your song is build around. The key is always named after the first tone (aka the prime). In Am the prime is A, in F the prime is F in C# the prime is C# etc. This doesn't mean it has to be the first note in the song, but it does determine the function of the tone. It's almost always a resting point. A start or and ending. The other tones have functions as well. Same goes for the chords. The chords mostly consist of the seven tones of the key. A G minor chord in a G minor key, serves as a beginning or resolving chord.

Keep these things in mind when you're playing or writing music. It helps you better understand the function of the tones and chords, and therefore the structure.

It's only people that don't play video games themselves that blame them. It's easy to blame something you don't like. That's why more people blame games than films. Violent films are blamed as well at times though. Much more than books. Books get blamed as well.

I think there are a lot of people that can't tell violent games, books or films apart from real life violence and crimes, and therefore blame violent fiction for actual violence. Creators of violent entertainment receive a lot of death threads. It's not just 13 year old kids that turn violent because they can't tell truth from fiction, but the actual critics are guilty of this as well. It's very ironic I think.

Nobody would ever dream about blaming classic music, when a murderer likes Bach. Who would blame flowers when a rapist likes gardening? It's rather odd to make a direct causal connection when a criminal has interest in one way related to violence, but not with anything else. People like to point fingers.

I'd just like to mention that I hate the COD franchise with a passion... but blaming the game for a kid raping and killing his own mother is ludicrous.

I know I know. You're right. It has nothing to do with the game, but with the parents giving their 11 year old a gun. Who does that? Whether he's mentally ill or not. And I have no idea where the rape thing comes from. No normal human being would try to do that. Better to let him shoot people in a game than hurt or kill in real life.
