Actually I tried an Avalon mic preamp and the sound was blowing me away compared with my Art Tube MP.

Man, there are a lot of "competitions" like :
Tell us the color of pink.

Those are made more to make publicity of the product, they count on you googleing on their product, they count on you going to their official page to see the new engine, the new... stuff, and if you don't win at lest you'll consider to buy the product.
At a cost of several copies (downloadable, so no costs for CD, packaging or postal fees) they have publicity that they could buy for more money than the price of prizes they give ;)

But for the happy winner of that, this is not really important.

To enter, all you need to do is answer the following simple question:
- What is the name of Garritan's new instrument engine?
Copetition's Official Page

Hope that someone that needs that will get it.

That's why you should turn always volume to half when you listen to NG music.
That should be the next developed habit of every musician that cares about hearing :)

Great to see that people still find this useful :)
If you search more in this thread, you'll find some more backing tracks to put your solos, some great metal ones by Bad Man, Metaljonus...etc, some funk also and a great track by Rig.
Digg in, there is a treasure ;)

Because:
1 - You made the mistake to go to school and learn how to read and write.
2 - You're young and restless, you look now to the future. Don't worry, when you'll be an old fart you'll pann everything to the left... you'll remember your youth with more pleasure than looking toward future...

It is different also for Jewish people, I mean the very traditional ones with strong cultural roots. They write from right to left. Probably that's why their music and dances seems so interesting to other cultures.

Also Japanese people, they write from up to down. Their whole art is very different, even if they try to imitate European or American forms of art. That explains their passion for European classical music and our fascination for their visual arts where those differences are more obvious.

At 11/3/09 12:54 AM, Rig wrote: Maybe it's a left-brain vs right-brain thing, I dunno.

Actually it is. I do the same and is not related to cables or speakers or ear wax, the reason for that is in our cultural environment.
When we write, we do it from left to right, because of that and some other mental reasons, when we see an image moving from left to right, that appears as moving "forward" and when an image is moving from right to left we think it as "backward".

This mind trick s used in theater (when the action is going, actors move slightly to the right, running is also usually from left to right...etc), movies (point of attention is not in the center, forward action is from left to right...etc), painting (point of maximum interest is slightly right-up corner).

Also look at piano and all keyed instruments, "up" is right, "down" is left.

For me as an ex orchestra member, it's normal to hear solos in the right (first violin, oboe, clarinet, flute, all usual soloing instruments are to right from the point of view of inside orchestra), however, keeping in mind that audience hear orchestra from the front, everything changes to vice versa.

Effects (electronic only, very small part) - OPEN!

Well, you should ear that out more carefully. There is also :
Piano
Hammond organ
There is a quite big brass section (trombone, tenor sax, alto sax and trumpet, maybe two) not just trumpet.
There are also the backing voices (female choir in the beginning and male choir in the middle making "haum").

Depending of my free time I might try to make some keys (piano and Hammond) and if there are no sax & trombone players I can fake a brass section (DSK Saxophones VSTi, DVS saxophone VSTi, real trumpet and a trumpet pitched one octave down as trombone).

It is also available as RTAS (for Pro Tools) and AU (for Logic).

Well, there is just the phisical limit of the instrument, but if you go way down you'll end just tuning one semitone or more down... not really a re-pitching of "A" but more a re-tuning to "G#" or lower.

As an interesting quest, try to find some Catholic or Lutheran old churches that have organs, if those are the original ones those might use a different pitch, not the standard 440.

For this year's Halloween I'll first dress up like myself (I am from Transilvania) and we'll throw a party in our new renovated/ redecoraded room (red & black, my wife's idea).
As for Halloween themed tracks, I made two:
Halloween Special - Mysterious Church
Halloween Special - Frankenstein's Waltz
Maybe I'll make some more after this week (3 concerts, two tomorrow)...
