Anti-Semitism has flourished in Europe for centuries, i think it is almost subconcious...
Most European people would never 'come out' as anti-semites, and probably would not imagine themselves to actually be an anti-semite, even if they hold anti-semitic preconceptions and attitudes.
For example saying Jews use the Holocaust card is an anti-semitic statement, as there are 1st generation survivors in their late 20's that suffer the legacy of suffering, within their Families, everyday, and to trivialise this is disturbing to them and those of us who are 2nd generation survivors.
We do not play cards, we suffer to see our loved ones have multiple breakdowns due to the mental torture that they have endured in the extermination camps.
The anti-semitism of Europe is shown in 'The Merchant of Venice' - Shakspeare. The Jews have been systematically exiled from every European country, inc the U.K in 900 AD.In Shakspearean Times they were hated by the Christian Europe for 'Usury' (The pratice of money lending for interest).
Jews were mass hanged in the U.K due to the blood libal cases (Christians said they used the blood of Christian children for rituals), even women and children were hangedin the U.K.
Maybe because the U.S is such a young country, they haven't yet the history of anti-semitism that we have in Europe.Yet the U.S is a Terrorist target because of the Jews and it's foreign policies related to Israel i.e. Sep 11th...
I went to see an Israeli film the other day in London, there was Terror threat, so there were 10 police in riot gear outside. When i walked home i felt fear, this is what anti-semitism is...
