well they are not the same....if you listen well to comercial tracks of trance/techno genre youll see the diference..well most ppl here put trance in techno and techno in trance genre thats why you think its all the same but its not...

the major problem that i see is that people fail to determine what exactly they're looking for in music. my standpoint is that im listening for things that are pleasing, interesting, thought provoking--overall, that vague feeling of satisfaction from the song. there are criteria that i weigh to help me figure out whether i like a song--most evaluated subconsciously as i listen.

other people can disagree with my standpoint, and that's fine. in the end, itd be great if you can ask yourself what the heck u want in a song before judging it, or else i personally thing your comments are going to be vapid, lame, and corrosive to the NG society and music as a whole.

I used to have the same problem. EQs take a lot of practice. Here's the realization that finally led me to making the most out of equalisers. I don't know if it will be any help to you, though: When I use EQ's, instead of bringing out the frequencies I like most to make a good sound, I remove the frequencies that don't have to be there. The instruments will usually end up sounding worse, but the mix will end up sounding better.
