I think you need to stop looking for the AS you need, and develop your own understand of the language. From the way you are posting, you are dry-cutting and pasting the code into your movie.

You can develop an inventory system easily once you determine how to use variables, arrays, and a basic understanding of the library and other Flash functions. I'm not trying to be mean, but you won't cut it as an Actionscripter if you dont learn the Flash.

Take a look at kirk's list of actionscript tutorials, and dive in. It will be so much faster in the long run to just learn the script instead of copy it.

The preloader should be the least of your worries at this point.
